Error code reference

Wega error codes, what they mean and how to fix them.

Wega's electronic machines post numbered Err codes and a couple of text prompts when something trips. For each one below you get what it means, what usually causes it, what you can safely check yourself, and the point where it turns into a service call. The same controller family runs across Wega's current range, so a code reads the same on a Polaris as it does on an IO.

About these codes. Compiled from Wega product documentation and our own GTA service records. Exact wording can shift slightly by model and firmware year, so we confirm each code against the machine in front of us. Updated July 2026

Boiler

2 codes
Err 03 Boiler heating timeout Critical

The boiler did not reach its setpoint inside the allowed heat-up window. You will usually meet this one first thing in the morning, on a cold start.

Likely causes

  • Scale insulating the element
  • A degraded element
  • A sticking SSR or contactor
  • A probe reading low and stalling the controller

Try this first

  1. Check when the machine was last descaled.
  2. Confirm it is not sitting in eco standby on a Concept Green Line, which delays heating on purpose.
  3. Power-cycle and try a warm restart.
When to call us

If the descale is current and the timeout comes back, the element or its switching device needs testing.

Err 07 Steam boiler overpressure Critical

Steam pressure has gone past the safety threshold, or the sensor is reporting values that cannot be real. Either way the machine is flagging a pressure-safety problem.

Likely causes

  • A failed pressurestat or pressure sensor
  • A sticking SSR or contactor leaving the element energized
  • A seized vacuum breaker
  • A safety valve that has already vented

Try this first

  1. Kill power at the main switch.
  2. Do not reset and try again.
  3. Note any water around the safety valve.
When to call us

This is safety-critical. Call before you power it back on. A vented safety valve will not reseal and has to be replaced.

Brew group

1 code
Err 06 Brew group lockout Warning

Brew was commanded on a group but the controller saw no actuation or flow come back, so it locked the group out.

Likely causes

  • A failed solenoid coil reading open
  • A blown solenoid driver
  • Pump starvation upstream
  • A silent flow meter, which cross-references Err 05

Try this first

  1. Listen for the solenoid click when the group is started.
  2. If it is silent, the coil or driver has gone.
  3. If it clicks but nothing flows, the problem is downstream.
When to call us

Coil testing and driver diagnosis is service-call work.

Pump

1 code
Err 11 Brew pressure out of band Warning

On Polaris EVD and MyConcept EVD with pressure monitoring, steady-state brew pressure has fallen outside its configured band. The machine is telling you extraction pressure is off, not that it has stopped.

Likely causes

  • Rotary pump wear
  • OPV or expansion-valve drift
  • A clogged inlet screen
  • Scale narrowing the brew circuit

Try this first

  1. Note whether the shots themselves taste off.
  2. Do not adjust the OPV without a gauge on it.
  3. Check the under-counter shutoff is fully open.
When to call us

OPV calibration and pump testing need a portafilter gauge and a technician.

Electronics

4 codes
Err 05 Flow meter not pulsing Warning

A group's volumetric flow meter is not pulsing during the shot, or its count has gone out of range, so the controller cannot measure the dose.

Likely causes

  • Mineral buildup on the impeller
  • A failed Hall sensor
  • A disconnected lead
  • Water quality dragging the meter down over time

Try this first

  1. Switch that group to manual mode if your staff are comfortable with it.
  2. Note which group is affected.
  3. Avoid reprogramming doses to chase it.
When to call us

The meter swap is a planned tech visit. Wega EVD meters interchange with Astoria EVD meters, which keeps parts easy to get.

Err 08 Inter-board communication fault Critical

The main controller has lost its link to a satellite board, such as the display, a group board, or an expansion board.

Likely causes

  • An unseated ribbon between boards
  • Water damage on a board
  • A failed satellite board
  • Vibration working a connector loose

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle from the main switch.
  2. Note what is still responsive, since it tells the tech which board to bring.
  3. Leave the machine closed up rather than opening it yourself.
When to call us

Reseating and testing the connectors is the first thing a tech tries, and it often clears without any parts.

Err 10 IO Tron touchscreen fault Critical

On the IO Tron, the touchscreen controller is not registering input, or it failed its own self-test at boot.

Likely causes

  • A failed touch digitizer
  • Corrupted firmware after a power event
  • A degraded ribbon connection
  • Board-level damage from a power surge

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle from the main switch.
  2. Note whether the screen lights up at all.
  3. Confirm there is surge protection on the dedicated circuit.
When to call us

Touchscreens are sensitive to power events. Depending on what we find, the fix is a hard reset, a firmware reflash, or a module swap.

Err 12 Dose keypad / membrane fault Warning

The keypad is reading several dose buttons at once, or one input is stuck on, which the controller flags as a membrane fault.

Likely causes

  • A worn-through membrane
  • Liquid that has got under the keypad
  • A corroded ribbon connector

Try this first

  1. Wipe the keypad dry.
  2. Stop pressing buttons to try to clear it.
  3. Power-cycle and see if it clears at boot.
When to call us

The membrane and ribbon are replaced as a set. They are the same family as Astoria membranes and interchange in many cases.

Water

1 code
Err 04 Autofill timeout / level probe Critical

Auto-fill ran past its safety window without the level probe ever reading full, so the controller stopped it before the pump could run dry.

Likely causes

  • A scaled level probe
  • A failed inlet solenoid
  • A closed inlet shutoff or low feed pressure
  • A slow internal leak

Try this first

  1. Confirm the inlet shutoff under the counter is open.
  2. Look under the machine for any sign of a leak.
  3. Power down if the pump is running without filling, so it does not run dry.
When to call us

Level probes scale at about the same rate as Astoria's, so we pull and clean them on every descale visit. A failed solenoid or a real leak is a service call.

Sensors

2 codes
Err 01 Steam boiler probe out of range Critical

The steam-boiler NTC probe is reading open or shorted, so the controller cuts steam-side heating to protect the element. Steam goes away, though the brew side may keep working.

Likely causes

  • A failed NTC probe
  • A broken probe lead at the flange
  • Moisture in the connector
  • Scale-driven drift in the reading

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle the machine from the main switch.
  2. If it clears briefly then returns, note how long that takes.
  3. Stop power-cycling if the code comes straight back.
When to call us

The probe needs to be ohmed and replaced. It is the same probe family as Astoria, so parts cross-reference and rarely hold up the repair.

Err 02 Brew group NTC out of range (Polaris PID) Critical

On Polaris EVD with per-group PID, and on MyConcept PID trims, each group runs its own NTC. This code locks out just the faulted group and leaves the others live, so you can keep pouring while it waits for service.

Likely causes

  • A failed group NTC
  • A broken lead at the group
  • Moisture in the connector after a brew-circuit leak
  • A probe that has drifted out of range

Try this first

  1. Note which group is faulted.
  2. Keep using the groups that are still live.
  3. Do not swap probes between groups to test.
When to call us

The probe gets tested at the controller and replaced, and the per-group PID offset is re-baselined with a Scace device afterward.

Other

2 codes
Err 09 Concept Green Line eco-mode fault Info

The eco-mode transition did not finish cleanly on a Concept Green Line machine. Operators often read it as a real fault when the machine is doing exactly what it was set up to do.

Likely causes

  • A power interruption during the transition
  • A firmware bug on an older eco scheduler
  • A schedule conflict someone set
  • A simple misunderstanding of the eco behaviour

Try this first

  1. Confirm the machine is meant to be in eco at that time of day.
  2. Review the eco schedule with whoever programmed it.
  3. Power-cycle once.
When to call us

If it keeps returning across several days, the firmware needs a reflash. Otherwise it is informational and safe to clear.

Service Maintenance interval reached Info

A maintenance counter has hit its threshold, whether that is a shot count, water volume, or descale hours. It is a reminder, not an active fault.

Likely causes

  • A programmed shot threshold reached
  • The descale timer elapsing
  • The water-filter counter elapsing

Try this first

  1. Note which counter actually triggered.
  2. Confirm the hardness setting matches the filter you have installed.
  3. Do not reset the counter without doing the work it is asking for.
When to call us

Book the maintenance the counter is pointing at. Descaling and filter changes are exactly the work that heads off the critical codes above.

FAQ

Wega error codes, frequently asked.

9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends.

Updated July 2026

What does Wega error code Err 01 mean?

Every documented Wega fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.

Can I clear or reset a Wega error code myself?

Sometimes. Many Wega codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.

Why does the same Wega error keep coming back?

A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.

My Wega code isn't listed. Why?

Wega updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.

How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?

Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response when scheduling allows. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day in most cases.

Do I need to be authorized by Wega to reset an error code?

No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Wega, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.

Is it worth fixing an old Wega machine that keeps throwing codes?

Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.

Will independent service void my Wega warranty?

If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Wega's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.

How many Wega codes are documented on this page?

13 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
