Two hoppers, two hundred cups

HLF 3700 repair by technicians who know it cold. GTA-wide.

An HLF 3700 carries a floor's worth of coffee on its own, so a jammed brew group or a grinder gone quiet is never a small thing. We repair these dual-grinder machines: dose drift between hoppers, steam losing pressure, milk pumps that stop drawing, codes read properly through the service menu instead of guessed at.

HLF · Modular super-automatic espresso, dual grinder

The HLF 3700.

The HLF 3700 is the fully modular core of HLF's range, rated for up to 200 cups a day. Dual grinders and dual hoppers let it pour two bean varieties side by side, dual boilers keep brew and steam from competing, and the drink menu configures to the site. High-volume offices and multi-site coffee operators lean on it hardest. On our bench the pattern is steady: keep the two grinders calibrated together, watch the dosing seals, and the rest behaves.

HLF 3700 faults we diagnose

The HLF 3700 faults behind most service calls.

Each HLF 3700 fault below appears in our service log again and again; here's what drives it and how we clear it.

Brew system & pressure 3 issues
!

Brew unit jamming under sustained volume

At 200 cups a day the 3700's brew group earns its service interval. Grind buildup, worn cam followers, or creeping misalignment binds the piston; the unit comes out, gets cleaned to bare metal, takes new seals and lubrication, and goes back in only after clean test cycles.

!

Grounds in cup

A torn brew screen or worn piston seal. We inspect, replace the failed parts, and recalibrate the grind so the screens stop fighting it.

!

Inconsistent shot volume

Scale in the flow meter or a pump losing output. The flow meter gets cleaned and its pulses verified, pump output measured, and a below-spec pump quoted in writing.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Slow heating on dual-boiler architecture

With two boilers there are two elements to scale up, and they rarely fail together. Each boiler gets descaled and its element tested separately; whichever doesn't recover gets replaced.

!

Weak steam pressure

Scale in the steam circuit, a blocked steam valve, or a failed steam-boiler sensor. We descale, verify the valve's full travel, and replace the cartridge or sensor as the tests dictate.

!

Leak under chassis

O-ring, brew unit seal, or hose. The pressure test finds it, the part gets replaced, and test cycles confirm the machine stays dry.

!

Descale alert recurring

An incomplete cycle or an unreset counter. We verify the cycle, reset the counter, and check that the hardness setting reflects the install's actual water.

Milk & steam 4 issues
!

Auto milk weak foam

Foam chamber buildup, worn springs, or air valve drift. The module gets stripped and sanitized, the wear parts renewed, the air recalibrated, and the foam verified across profiles.

!

Milk dispensing cold

A drifted milk-temperature sensor or scale in the milk circuit. We test the sensor against a reference, descale, and replace it if the readings are off.

!

Milk pump not drawing

A worn impeller, an air leak in the suction line, or a blocked intake screen. We pressure-test the line, inspect the pump head, and replace the impeller when flow measures low.

!

Sour smell on milk drinks

The daily clean cycle has been skipped. Deep clean, full sanitation, and a reset of the routine with your team.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Dual-hopper dose drift

The two grinders rarely wear identically, especially when one hopper does most of the pouring. We weigh dose from each side, recalibrate both independently, and replace burrs as the measurements dictate. Expect a calibration to hold 6 to 12 months at normal volume.

!

Grinder cross-contamination between hoppers

Worn dosing chamber seals let one bean variety bleed into the other, which matters most on decaf. We inspect the dosing components, replace the seals, and verify clean separation between the two paths.

!

Foreign-object noise on one grinder

First we isolate which grinder is complaining, then it comes apart. The stone or stray hardware comes out, the burrs get checked for chips, and damaged burrs are replaced.

!

Touchscreen frozen

Usually a firmware hang. A hard reset clears most, a reflash from a known-good image handles corruption, and a dead panel is a routine module swap.

!

Fault code displayed (brew, boiler, or milk)

The 3700 logs its faults precisely, so we read the history through the service interface rather than guessing from symptoms. The failing component is identified and replaced, the log cleared, and the full menu tested.

!

Wi-Fi or Bluetooth dropping

Config drift after a network change, a firmware mismatch, or a tired comms module. We verify, update, reset the stack, and replace the module if the drops persist.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right HLF water filter ends the repeat visits.

FAQ

HLF 3700, frequently asked.

21 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

What does error E21 mean on my HLF 3700?

E21 flags dose variance between the two grinders beyond the platform's tolerance. One set of burrs is wearing faster than the other, or one dose sensor has drifted. We weigh dose from each hopper, recalibrate both, and replace burrs as the measurements dictate.

Why do the two hoppers on the 3700 dose differently?

Because they never share the workload evenly; the house-blend side usually pours several times more than the second hopper. The busy grinder's burrs wear first and its dose drifts first. Calibrating the two sides independently is the fix, and it's standard procedure for us.

Why does the decaf taste like regular on our 3700?

Worn dosing chamber seals let one bean variety bleed into the other's path. It defeats the point of running two hoppers, and for some drinkers it's a real problem rather than a quibble. New seals and a verified clean separation sort it.

Why is steam weak when the coffee is still fine?

The 3700's dual-boiler layout separates brew and steam, so one side can fail while the other holds. Scale in the steam circuit, a blocked steam valve, or a failed steam-boiler sensor is the usual cause. Each is testable at the machine.

How long does grinder calibration hold on the 3700?

Six to twelve months at normal office volume, shorter under heavy load or after a bean change. Water hardness doesn't touch the grinders, but bean quality does; stones and oily blends shorten burr life. We log dose readings on each visit so drift shows up early.

Why is one grinder making a horrible noise?

Almost certainly a small stone that came in with the beans. We isolate which grinder, open it, clear the object, and inspect the burrs for chipping. Catching it fast usually saves the burrs.

The milk pump stopped drawing. What's involved in the fix?

A pressure test of the milk line first, to separate an air leak from a worn impeller or a blocked intake screen. The impeller is the most common failure and replaces quickly. We refresh the suction-line seals at the same time as cheap insurance.

Is a 3700 worth repairing after years of heavy use?

Usually, yes. The platform is modular, which keeps even bigger jobs like boiler or grinder work economical against replacement. We quote the repair and give you an honest read on remaining life, and the decision stays yours.

Does the 3700 need different service than the single-grinder HLF machines?

It needs more of it, not different kinds. Two grinders mean two dose calibrations and a cross-contamination check, and two boilers mean two descale circuits and two sets of sensors. Budget a slightly longer visit, not a different specialist.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your HLF 3700 deserves a specialist.

Describe the fault; odds are we've cleared it on another 3700.
