Error code reference
La Spaziale error codes, what they mean and how to fix them.
This page gathers the fault codes and warning symptoms we run into most on La Spaziale machines, from the Seletron-controlled S40 and S50 to the heat-exchanger S5, S2, S9, S10, S11, S21, and S25. Each entry sets out what the machine is telling you, the usual causes, and what is safe to check before a technician gets involved. On older pre-Seletron units there is no digital code, so we cover the tell-tale symptoms too.

About these codes. Compiled from La Spaziale technical references and our own service logs across the GTA. We keep codes for the current global lineup even where the North American range is narrower, so you may see entries for models that are less common locally. Updated August 2026
Boiler
2 codesE2 Boiler heating timeout
The boiler failed to reach its target temperature inside the allowed heat-up window. On heat-exchanger machines the cause is almost typically on the steam side, since the brew water passes through that same boiler.
Likely causes
- Scale insulating the heating element
- A degraded element no longer pulling full wattage
- A sticking SSR or contactor
- A probe reading low and stalling the controller
Try this first
- Check when the machine was last descaled; two missed descales is enough to cause this.
- Confirm the machine is on its own dedicated circuit.
- Power-cycle and try a warm restart if the machine will allow it.
If descaling is current and the timeout still returns from a cold start, the element needs testing under load. Remember the HX coil descale is a separate job from the steam-boiler descale, and both have to be done before ruling scale out.
Pressurestat LED Pressure indicator stuck or no heating (legacy)
On pre-Seletron machines (older S5 EK, S2 EK, and legacy Spazio units) there is no digital code to read. The symptom is a stuck pressure-indicator LED together with a machine that will not heat or heats erratically.
Likely causes
- A failed mechanical pressurestat (the most common cause)
- A scaled heating element
- A broken pressurestat wire
- A failed contactor
Try this first
- Confirm the machine has power and the main switch is on.
- Listen for the pressurestat or contactor clicking at startup.
- Avoid cycling power repeatedly once you've confirmed it won't heat.
The pressurestat is the single most common failure point on older heat-exchanger La Spaziales, so a technician will usually have one on the truck and clear this in a single visit.
Brew group
1 codeE6 Brew solenoid / group lockout
A brew was commanded but no flow or no end-of-dose signal came back, so the Seletron board locks that group out to protect it.
Likely causes
- A failed group solenoid coil
- A blown solenoid driver on the Seletron board
- Scale blocking the valve
- An upstream pump failure
Try this first
- Listen for the solenoid click when the group is triggered.
- Keep serving from the other groups while you wait for service.
- Do not try to bypass the solenoid.
Testing the coil and the driver is service work. Depending on the board's condition, a Seletron driver can sometimes be repaired at the MOSFET level rather than replacing the whole board, which is worth asking about before committing to a board swap.
Pump
1 codeE7 Brew pressure low / pump fault
Brew pressure rarely reached target during the shot, or the pressure transducer is reading low throughout it.
Likely causes
- A worn rotary pump
- Expansion-valve drift toward the loose side
- A clogged inlet screen
- A partially blocked brew circuit
Try this first
- Note whether the shots are tasting under-extracted.
- Watch the panel gauge while a shot is running.
- Do not keep turning the expansion valve without a portafilter gauge to read against.
Setting the expansion valve properly needs a gauge in line. If the pump's output is genuinely below spec, replacement is a planned visit rather than an on-the-spot adjustment.
Electronics
2 codesE5 Flow meter not pulsing
The volumetric flow meter on a group is not sending pulses during a shot, or its count is landing outside the expected band, so the controller can't measure the dose.
Likely causes
- Mineral buildup jamming the impeller
- A failed Hall sensor
- A disconnected lead
- Hard water causing repeat meter failures
Try this first
- Switch that group to manual mode if your operator is comfortable doing so.
- Note which group is throwing the fault.
- Avoid reprogramming doses repeatedly; it won't revive a dead meter.
Replacing the meter is a planned service-call job. On the S40 the flow meters sit behind the front panel, so allow some disassembly time when you book.
E8 Seletron communication / self-test fault
The Seletron controller has lost communication with the user-interface board, or it failed its self-test on boot.
Likely causes
- An unseated ribbon between the Seletron and the UI board
- Water damage on the board
- A blown driver
- A board that has reached end of life
Try this first
- Power the machine down at the main switch and back up.
- Note which parts of the interface still respond.
- Do not open the machine to reseat cables yourself.
Seletron boards are still supported, but lead time can run one to two weeks. Have the technician confirm parts availability before you promise staff or guests a turnaround.
Water
2 codesE3 Level probe / autofill timeout
Autofill ran past its safety window without the level probe ever registering full, or the reading rarely changed while the inlet was open. Because the level probe port scales heavily on heat-exchanger boilers, this is one of the most common faults on the platform.
Likely causes
- A scaled level probe (the most common cause)
- A failed inlet solenoid
- A closed inlet shutoff or low feed pressure
- A slow internal leak
Try this first
- Confirm the inlet shutoff is fully open.
- Check under the machine for any sign of a leak.
- Stop power-cycling if the pump runs but no water goes in; running it dry causes more damage.
The probe and inlet solenoid need a technician to test and replace. The level probe should be pulled and inspected at every descale, so it is worth booking that as part of routine service rather than waiting for the next lockout.
No fill Boiler won't auto-fill (legacy)
Pre-Seletron platforms have no coded autofill fault to display. The symptom is the boiler level dropping while the pump runs continuously without ever filling it.
Likely causes
- A scaled level probe
- A failed inlet solenoid
- A closed inlet shutoff
- A failed autofill relay on the control board
Try this first
- Confirm the inlet shutoff is open.
- Do not let the pump run dry for long, or you will damage it.
- Power the machine down if water is going somewhere it should not.
Legacy autofill relays are socketed and quick to swap once the fault is pinned down, so this is usually a short technician visit.
Pressure
1 codeE4 Pressurestat / pressure input fault
On Seletron trims that monitor pressure, the pressurestat input no longer agrees with the temperature probe, or boiler pressure has fallen outside the expected band.
Likely causes
- A mechanical pressurestat drifted out of calibration
- Scale blocking the pressurestat port
- A failed pressurestat
- A temperature probe reading off and creating the mismatch
Try this first
- Compare the panel pressure gauge against the figure on the display.
- Stop using the machine if the safety valve is hissing; that is a separate safety issue.
- Power-cycle once to see whether the fault repeats.
Calibrating or replacing the pressurestat is a technician job. La Spaziale uses a mechanical pressurestat on most trims, and once one has drifted it does not rebuild reliably, so it gets swapped rather than nursed along.
Sensors
1 codeE1 Boiler NTC probe out of range
On Seletron-controlled machines, this means the boiler NTC temperature probe is reading open or shorted rather than a real temperature. The controller shuts off heating and holds the lockout until the reading comes back into range.
Likely causes
- A failed NTC probe
- A broken lead at the boiler flange
- Moisture in the connector
- A probe that has drifted out of tolerance after years in the boiler
Try this first
- Power the machine down at the main switch and leave it off for 30 seconds.
- If the code clears for a moment then comes back, note how long that takes.
- Stop resetting it if it returns immediately; repeated cycling won't fix a bad probe.
The probe has to be ohmed at the controller and replaced, which is a technician job. On heat-exchanger boilers the probe sits in a steam-saturated space, so it wears out sooner than on dual-boiler PID platforms; a spare on the truck usually means a one-visit fix.

FAQ
La Spaziale error codes, frequently asked.
9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends. If the recurring ones are descale or water warnings, start with the right La Spaziale water filter.
Updated August 2026
What does La Spaziale error code E1 mean?
Every documented La Spaziale fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.
Can I clear or reset a La Spaziale error code myself?
Sometimes. Many La Spaziale codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.
Why does the same La Spaziale error keep coming back?
A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.
My La Spaziale code isn't listed. Why?
La Spaziale updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.
How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?
Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day.
Do I need to be authorized by La Spaziale to reset an error code?
No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with La Spaziale, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.
Is it worth fixing an old La Spaziale machine that keeps throwing codes?
Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.
Will independent service void my La Spaziale warranty?
If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on La Spaziale's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.
How many La Spaziale codes are documented on this page?
10 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
