Error code reference

Nuova Simonelli error codes, what they mean and how to fix them.

Nuova Simonelli machines signal trouble through alarms on the Wave Digit display or fault behaviour at the button bank rather than one public list of error codes. The entries below cover the alarm conditions we actually get called about on the Aurelia, Appia, Oscar, Musica, and Prontobar platforms: what each one means, what is safe to check yourself, and the point where it becomes a service call.

Boiler

3 codes
ALL02 T3 group boiler heating timeout Critical

On Aurelia Wave T, UX, and Digit machines with the T3 multi-boiler layout, one of the group micro-boilers failed to reach setpoint inside the warm-up window. The controller locks out that group's element and the rest of the machine keeps working.

Likely causes

  • Group boiler heavily scaled
  • Element electrically degraded
  • SSR for that group failed open
  • Wave Digit firmware lost its T3 calibration after an update
  • Boiler under-filled because of an upstream water problem

Try this first

  1. Note which group number is flagged
  2. Pull shots on the other groups; if they heat normally, the fault is isolated to the flagged group
When to call us

This one needs a technician. Element resistance, SSR output, and T3 calibration restoration all fit in a single visit, and the machine can usually keep serving on its healthy groups until we arrive.

ALL04 Steam boiler over-pressure Critical

Steam pressure has read above the safety threshold, or the pressure stat rarely opened at its setpoint. The controller cuts the element; this is the fault the safety chain exists for.

Likely causes

  • Pressure stat contacts welded closed
  • Pressure stat drifted high after years of use
  • Pressure stat capillary tube scaled and reading false-low
  • Element SSR welded on
  • Safety pressure switch tripped

Try this first

  1. Shut the machine down at the switch; do not bypass anything
  2. Read the boiler gauge directly and note the pressure
When to call us

Call right away and leave the machine off. We replace the pressure stat, verify the full safety circuit, and only then return the machine to service.

ALL13 Boiler heating timeout (Appia Life) Critical

The Appia Life's boiler did not reach setpoint within the warm-up window, so the controller cut the element rather than keep heating blind.

Likely causes

  • Element scaled out
  • Element electrically degraded
  • SSR failed open
  • Brown-out from the building supply
  • Cold start in a cold room exceeding the spec window

Try this first

  1. Note the ambient temperature; the spec window assumes a room-temperature start
  2. Verify the mains voltage is stable
  3. Power-cycle once
When to call us

If one power cycle doesn't get it heating, stop there and call. We test element resistance and the SSR, and descale the boiler if scale turns out to be the cause.

Group head

1 code
ALL06 Soft Infusion pre-brew solenoid fault Warning

The Soft Infusion solenoid did not actuate, or the pressure response it should create rarely arrived. The machine skips pre-infusion and pulls the shot at full pressure, so coffee keeps flowing but extraction quality suffers.

Likely causes

  • Pre-infusion solenoid coil burnt out
  • Solenoid mechanically stuck open or closed
  • Coil wire broken at the strain relief
  • Controller output driver failed

Try this first

  1. Compare the affected group against a known-good group
  2. Listen for the pre-infusion click at the start of a shot
When to call us

Book a visit if the click is gone or the shots taste harsher than usual. A coil or solenoid swap is routine, and we verify the Soft Infusion pressure curve on a portafilter gauge before calling it fixed.

Steam

2 codes
ALL08 Easy Cream auto-frother fault Warning

Easy Cream has detected an out-of-range condition, most often a drifting milk temperature probe or a blocked air-intake path. Auto-frothing shuts off, but the manual steam wand keeps working.

Likely causes

  • Milk temperature probe scaled or drifted
  • Air-intake line blocked by milk residue
  • Air-intake check valve seized
  • Steam venturi clogged with milk-stone

Try this first

  1. Run the daily milk clean cycle
  2. Inspect the air-intake fitting on the wand for visible buildup
When to call us

If a full clean cycle doesn't clear the alarm, the module needs a strip-down. We sanitize the pathway, fit a fresh O-ring kit, and recalibrate the probe in the same visit.

ALL11 Steam wand drip / cartridge wear flag Info

An informational flag on machines with steam-circuit feedback: the firmware is seeing a pattern consistent with a steam valve leaking past its seat. Nothing shuts down and the machine keeps working.

Likely causes

  • Steam valve cartridge worn
  • Milk-stone on the valve seat
  • Joystick or knob seal leaking

Try this first

  1. Check whether the wand drips steam at rest
  2. Clean the steam tip
When to call us

Fold it into your next visit, or book one if the drip is visible. A steam valve rebuild is quick, and it stops the slow scale buildup a weeping valve causes.

Pump

2 codes
ALL05 Flow meter fault / dose timeout Warning

The controller expected flow meter pulses during a volumetric shot and saw none within the timeout. The shot aborts, and programmed doses cannot be trusted until the cause is cleared.

Likely causes

  • Flow meter impeller coated with mineral deposit
  • Flow meter wire unseated at the controller
  • Gicleur on the affected group fully blocked
  • Pump not running
  • Inlet water shut off

Try this first

  1. Listen for the pump engaging when you start a shot
  2. Run a shot on each group to see whether the fault is isolated to one
When to call us

If it isn't a closed tap, call us. Flow meter cleaning is quick work; if the drift returns after a cleaning we'll quote a replacement meter rather than keep chasing it.

ALL14 Pump pressure low / OPV drift Warning

Where the machine has brew-pressure feedback, it is reading below the expected window on every group. Volumetric shots may still finish, but extraction goes inconsistent.

Likely causes

  • Rotary pump worn
  • OPV or bypass drifted off 9 bar
  • Inlet pressure low from a starving RO system
  • Pump capacitor degraded

Try this first

  1. Watch the gauge during a blank shot; it should rise to 9 bar
  2. Confirm inlet pressure at the regulator
When to call us

If the gauge won't reach 9 bar, book a visit. We reset the OPV against a portafilter gauge and replace the pump if its output under load is below spec.

Electronics

2 codes
ALL07 Wave Digit communication / display fault Warning

The Wave Digit display has dropped communication with the main controller, or the touch panel has stopped responding. Shots may still pour on last-known settings, so the bar isn't necessarily dead.

Likely causes

  • Ribbon cable unseated
  • Firmware hang after an update
  • Display module digitizer failed
  • Power supply to the display module out of spec

Try this first

  1. Hard power-cycle the machine at the breaker
  2. Check whether shots still pour from the manual or button overrides
When to call us

If the screen stays dark or deaf after a breaker cycle, call. We reflash to a known-stable firmware build, or replace the display module if the digitizer itself has failed.

ALL10 Lighted button bank fault Info

One or more dose buttons on a group's lighted bank have stopped registering presses or lighting up. The rest of the machine keeps working normally.

Likely causes

  • Microswitch contacts corroded by steam migration
  • LED failed
  • Ribbon between the front panel and controller backed off
  • Water intrusion behind the front panel

Try this first

  1. Press every button on the affected group and note the pattern
  2. Avoid wet-wiping the front panel until it has been inspected
When to call us

No urgency, but book it before more buttons follow. With the front panel off we service the whole bank at once, replacing LEDs and microswitches together rather than one at a time.

Water

2 codes
ALL03 Autofill timeout Critical

The autofill solenoid ran longer than its allowed window without the level probe ever reading full, so the machine cut power to the fill circuit to protect against flooding.

Likely causes

  • Water supply closed or partially closed
  • Softener or RO system upstream restricting flow
  • Autofill solenoid stuck closed
  • Boiler leak draining water as fast as it fills
  • Level probe scaled over and blind to the water

Try this first

  1. Verify the water supply is fully open
  2. Check the chassis floor for visible leaks
  3. Inspect the softener cartridge if it is near the end of its rated litres
When to call us

If the supply checks out and the alarm returns, stop restarting the machine, especially if you suspect a leak. We descale the probe, test the solenoid, and dye-trace any suspected leak in the same visit.

ALL12 Service interval / descale reminder Info

A maintenance counter has reached its target. Nothing is broken; the machine keeps brewing and is asking for its scheduled service.

Likely causes

  • Litres-dispensed counter elapsed
  • Time-based counter elapsed
  • Water filter litre counter expired

Try this first

  1. Confirm what the reminder covers: softener, descale, or filter
  2. Do not clear the counter without doing the underlying service
When to call us

Book a maintenance visit at your convenience. We do the work the counter is asking for and reset it as part of the close-out, so the schedule stays honest.

Sensors

2 codes
ALL01 Boiler probe / temperature sensor fault Critical

The controller has lost a valid reading from one of the boiler NTC sensors, so it locks out that boiler's heating element until the sensor checks out. On Wave Digit machines the display shows which boiler raised the alarm.

Likely causes

  • NTC sensor failed open or short
  • Connector unseated on the controller board
  • Steam migration into the sensor housing
  • Lead damaged at a chassis pinch point

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle the machine once
  2. Identify whether the alarm points to the steam boiler, the brew boiler, or one of the T3 group boilers (Wave Digit will indicate which)
When to call us

If the alarm survives a power cycle, the sensor or its wiring needs proper testing. We check resistance against the reference table and replace the failed part; NTCs for the Aurelia and Appia platforms ride on the truck.

ALL09 Gravimetric load cell out of range (Aurelia Wave Gravimetric) Warning

On gravimetric Aurelia Wave variants, the load cells under the drip tray are reporting a value the controller cannot reconcile with a real cup. The machine falls back to volumetric dosing for the next shot, so service continues.

Likely causes

  • Drip tray not seated squarely
  • Vibration source near the machine (fridge compressor, generator, loose chassis)
  • Load cell drifted out of calibration
  • Load cell mechanically damaged

Try this first

  1. Reseat the drip tray squarely
  2. Confirm the machine sits level on the counter
  3. Look for vibration sources under or beside the bar
When to call us

If reseating the tray doesn't settle it, the cells need calibrating against reference weights. Persistent drift after calibration means a replacement cell, which we quote before fitting.

FAQ

Nuova Simonelli error codes, frequently asked.

9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends.

Updated July 2026

What does Nuova Simonelli error code ALL01 mean?

Every documented Nuova Simonelli fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.

Can I clear or reset a Nuova Simonelli error code myself?

Sometimes. Many Nuova Simonelli codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.

Why does the same Nuova Simonelli error keep coming back?

A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.

My Nuova Simonelli code isn't listed. Why?

Nuova Simonelli updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.

How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?

Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response when scheduling allows. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day in most cases.

Do I need to be authorized by Nuova Simonelli to reset an error code?

No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Nuova Simonelli, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.

Is it worth fixing an old Nuova Simonelli machine that keeps throwing codes?

Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.

Will independent service void my Nuova Simonelli warranty?

If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Nuova Simonelli's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.

How many Nuova Simonelli codes are documented on this page?

14 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
