Group gasket leaking
The gasket has hardened with heat cycles. We replace it and confirm the portafilter locks up tight and dry.

Small machine, real support
The Oscar II earns its counter space by punching above its price, right up until the morning it doesn't heat. We repair these entry single-groups the same way we do flagship bars: test, diagnose, fix, verify. Pressure stats, heat exchanger scale, tired vibratory pumps, weeping gaskets. No 'just buy a new one' unless the numbers genuinely say so.

Nuova Simonelli · Prosumer / light commercial traditional espresso
The Oscar II is Nuova Simonelli's entry single-group, built for offices and light hospitality. A heat-exchanger boiler gives it proper steam-while-you-brew, which is rare at its size, fed by a vibratory pump and a reservoir. Rated around 60 shots a day, it suits the espresso program that's serious but small. The service pattern is gentle: scale on the usual schedule, pump and reservoir seals as they age, and a gasket whenever the volume says it's time.

Oscar II faults we diagnose
When an Oscar II misbehaves it's usually one of the faults below; each entry covers the cause and the cure.
The gasket has hardened with heat cycles. We replace it and confirm the portafilter locks up tight and dry.
Blocked perforations make the pour channel and spray. A cafiza soak clears it; a worn screen gets replaced.
Vibratory pumps fade gradually rather than quitting. We test output pressure and fit a new pump when it measures below spec.
A part-blocked gicleur slows the pour to a trickle. We pull it and run it through the ultrasonic.
Scale narrows the heat exchanger and brew temperature starts swinging. We descale and check the result against a reference probe.
Element or pressure stat, one of the two. We test both and replace the one that's actually failed.
The reservoir seal has perished. We replace it and pressure-test the pickup so the cabinet stays dry.
Scaled probe or a solenoid leaking past. We clean the probe, test the solenoid, and replace whichever is at fault.
Worn cartridge in the steam valve. We rebuild it and verify the shutoff.
Scale on the element, almost typically. We descale and replace the element if its draw is low.
A failed microswitch. We swap it and test the rest of the switchgear while the panel is off.
Sludge in the drain line. We clear the pathway so the tray drains instead of overflowing.
A dead LED, usually. We test the circuit first, then fit the new light.

A failed heating element or a pressure stat that's given up; the two produce near-identical symptoms from the outside. We test element resistance and stat behaviour rather than guessing, then replace the one that's actually failed. Parts for both are inexpensive and usually on the truck.
Scale on the element is the standard answer, especially on untreated water. It builds quietly until the wand can't finish a pitcher. A descale, an element resistance test, and a replacement if it reads low restore the steam this machine is actually known for.
No, the group gasket is. It hardens with heat cycles until it can't seal against the basket rim. A fresh gasket and a clean of the group restores a dry lock-up; it's one of the cheapest repairs on the menu.
Could be either, which is why we measure before we replace. A vibratory pump below spec gets swapped; if the pump tests fine, the gicleur is usually part-blocked and an ultrasonic clean clears it. You pay for the actual fault, not the loudest suspect.
The reservoir seal perishes with age, and water tracks along the chassis to wherever you happen to notice it. We replace the seal and pressure-test the pickup so the cabinet stays dry. Left alone, that trickle eventually finds the electronics.
Either the level probe is scaled and can't sense water, or the fill solenoid is leaking past its seat. The machine isn't thirsty; it's misinformed. Cleaning the probe and testing the solenoid identifies which, and the fix is quick either way.
Usually yes, and we'll be straight when it isn't. Gaskets, stats, pumps, and seals are all small-money parts, so most repairs cost a fraction of replacement. If your machine needs several major parts at once, we'll lay out both numbers and let you decide.
Not for reliability alone; the platforms are close relatives and we keep both running. The Mood is the current machine with updated styling and controls, and it makes sense when you're buying new anyway. A healthy Oscar II doesn't owe anyone an apology.
Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.
Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.
The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.
No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.
Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.
On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.
Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.
Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.
High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.
Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.
Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.
Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
Honest advice on whether a fix or an upgrade serves you better.
