Grinder and group, one box

Nuova Simonelli Prontobar repair that shows up today. GTA-wide.

A Prontobar does two machines' jobs, so when it stalls, you lose the grinder and the espresso bar in one stroke. We repair the whole unit in place: dose drift from worn burrs, rattling hoppers, auto-milk gone thin, displays that stop answering, plus all the classic boiler and group faults underneath. One visit covers both halves of the machine.

Nuova Simonelli · Compact bean-to-cup with traditional espresso group

The Prontobar.

The Prontobar packs an integrated grinder and a traditional brew group into one bean-to-cup chassis. Dual boilers with a heat exchanger feed it, the grinder doses straight to the group, and an optional auto-milk side rounds out one-touch drinks, rated to 150 shots a day. Offices, kiosks, and smaller hospitality rooms choose it when no barista is on staff. For service it's two appliances sharing one shell, and we treat it that way: burrs and dose calibration on the grinder side, gaskets, valves, and scale on the espresso side.

Prontobar faults we diagnose

Prontobar faults, from hopper to drip tray.

Grinder, milk, and espresso faults all show up on the Prontobar; each one below comes with its cause and our repair.

Brew system & pressure 4 issues
!

Group gasket leaking

Standard wear on a working group. A new gasket goes in, and we verify the lock-up holds under brewing pressure.

!

Dispersion screen clogged

Oils and fines block the perforations and the shot channels. We soak the screen in cafiza and replace it if it's worn.

!

Brew pressure low

Pump wear, most often. We measure at the group with a calibrated gauge, set the OPV, and replace the pump if it's below spec.

!

Gicleur clogged

Scale or fines choking the jet. We pull the gicleur and clear it ultrasonically.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Brew temperature drift

Scale in the brew boiler pulls temperature off setpoint. We descale and verify against a reference probe before the machine goes back to work.

!

Steam pressure low

A scaled steam element, in most cases. We descale it, test the resistance, and replace the element if it's drawing low.

!

Leak under chassis

We pressure-test the water circuit to find the weep, then replace the failed fitting rather than retightening it.

!

Auto-fill running constantly

A scaled level probe or a fill solenoid leaking past. We clean the probe and replace the solenoid if it won't seal.

Milk & steam 2 issues
!

Steam wand dripping

The valve cartridge is tired. We rebuild it and confirm a clean shutoff.

!

Auto-milk weak foam

Milk residue in the air pathway strangles the foam. We strip the module, sanitize the milk path end to end, and verify foam quality before leaving.

Electronics, grinder & other 4 issues
!

Grinder dose drift

Burr wear or motor drift shifts the dose over time. We weigh the output, recalibrate, and replace the burrs if the measurements say they're done.

!

Display unresponsive

Either a firmware hang or a hardware fault. We reflash first, and replace the display module only if the hardware is genuinely gone.

!

Lighted button failing

Steam migration corrodes the contacts. We clean the assembly and replace any failed LEDs or switches.

!

Grinder noise or rattling

Usually a stone that rode in with the beans, sometimes chipped burrs. We open the grinder, clear the debris, and replace the burrs if they're damaged.

Nuova Simonelli Prontobar

FAQ

Nuova Simonelli Prontobar, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated July 2026

Why has my Prontobar's shot dose changed even though nobody touched the settings?

Burr wear is the silent setting nobody adjusts; as the burrs dull, particle size shifts and dose drifts with it. Motor drift contributes on older units. We weigh the output, recalibrate the dose, and replace the burrs if the measurements say they're finished.

There's a rattling noise from the grinder. Should I keep using it?

Stop and check the hopper first, because the classic cause is a small stone that travelled in with the beans. Running it risks chipping the burrs, which turns a clean-out into a parts job. We strip the grinder, clear the debris, inspect the burrs, and replace them only if they're actually damaged.

Why won't beans feed from the hopper anymore?

Beans bridge above the throat, the hopper gate sticks, or oily beans glue themselves to the chute; occasionally the motor isn't engaging at all. We clear the bridge, clean the oils out of the throat, verify the gate, and test motor current draw so the real cause is confirmed rather than assumed.

The auto-milk on our Prontobar makes foam one day and froth-water the next. Why?

Inconsistent foam means the air pathway is partially blocked with milk residue, so the ratio shifts with temperature and time of day. The fix is a full strip and sanitize of the milk module, not another rinse cycle. We also walk your staff through the daily clean that keeps it from coming back.

Our Prontobar's display stopped responding. Is the machine done?

Very unlikely. Most dead displays are firmware hangs that clear with a proper reset, and a reflash settles the stubborn cases. A genuinely failed module is a part swap, not a death certificate.

Espresso from the Prontobar is suddenly weak. Grinder or machine?

It can be either, which is exactly why the hybrid format confuses people. Grind drift makes the puck too coarse; pump wear or scale drops pressure and temperature. We test both sides in sequence (dose first, then brew pressure and temperature) so the actual culprit gets fixed.

Does the Prontobar need a separate grinder service like a standalone grinder would?

Yes, the integrated grinder needs the same care a standalone would: burr inspection, dose calibration, and throat cleaning on a schedule. The convenience of one chassis doesn't remove the upkeep, it just hides it. We fold grinder service into every Prontobar visit by default.

Can one technician really fix both the grinder and the espresso side?

Yes, that's the point of how we train for this machine. Grinder calibration and espresso diagnostics are both standard kit for our techs, so you're not coordinating two trades for one box. One visit, one invoice, both halves verified before we leave.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day in most cases. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Nuova Simonelli Prontobar deserves a specialist.

Grinder side or espresso side, the diagnosis happens at your counter.
