The Classe 20.

The Classe 20 is Rancilio's flagship, offered in two thermal trims. The Steady Brew (SB) trim refines the thermosiphon with per-group control; the Advanced Steady Brew (ASB) trim runs separate boilers with PID per group for the most demanding programs. Both add customizable RGB lighting on the panels and groupheads, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, and deeper diagnostics. On the bench the Classe 20 carries more electronics, so RGB drivers, the touchscreen, SB or ASB thermal balance, and pre-infusion solenoids join the usual scale and seal work.

Rancilio Classe 20

FAQ

Rancilio Classe 20, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated July 2026

What's the difference between the Classe 20 SB and ASB for repairs?

The SB (Steady Brew) trim refines the thermosiphon with per-group control; the ASB (Advanced Steady Brew) runs separate boilers with PID per group. The ASB has more thermal circuits to calibrate, the SB is simpler. We service both and the approach follows whichever you have.

The RGB lighting on my Classe 20 is flickering. Is that worth fixing?

It's usually an LED driver or a strip fault rather than anything in the coffee path. We test the driver, replace the affected strip, and confirm the lighting profile through the service menu. It's a cosmetic system, so it's your call, but it's a straightforward fix.

My Classe 20 touchscreen is frozen. Does the whole module need replacing?

Usually not. Most frozen screens are a firmware hang that clears with a hard reset and, where needed, a reflash. We only replace the module if it's genuinely failed, and we test which case you have before quoting.

Why is one group on my Classe 20 not reaching set point?

Usually a failed heating element or a controller relay for that group. We test both and replace the faulty part, then confirm the group holds temperature. On the ASB we also check the per-group PID is calibrated.

Is the Classe 20 too much machine for a normal cafe?

It can be. The Classe 20 is a flagship built for demanding, high-volume specialty programs, with the electronics and price to match. If you don't need per-group thermal control and the touchscreen, a Classe 9 or 7 does the job for less. We'll tell you honestly which fits.

Does the Classe 20 need special diagnostics to service?

It carries more electronics than the rest of the range, so the service-menu access matters. We read its diagnostics, calibrate the SB or ASB thermal balance, and set the RGB and touchscreen behaviour through the menu. A generalist without that access is guessing.

My Classe 20 pre-infusion isn't firing on a group. What is it?

A failed pre-infusion solenoid on that group. We replace it and verify the pre-infusion curve. If several groups are affected at once, we check the controller output driving them instead.

How many shots a day can the Classe 20 handle?

It's rated up to around 450 shots a day across its groups, in line with the high-volume end of the range. The flagship build is meant to hold quality at that volume. We keep the thermal system and seals in spec so it does.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day in most cases. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Rancilio Classe 20 deserves a specialist.

One call gets you a tech with service-menu access and the parts.
