Boiler

Group NTC fault Group boiler NTC fault on one group Warning

One group's brew boiler is reporting a temperature outside the plausible range, or the sensor's resistance no longer matches the reference table. When one group drifts while the others hold steady, the fault lives in that group's NTC sensor rather than anywhere system-wide.

Likely causes

  • NTC sensor drifted out of its resistance range
  • Scale insulating the probe from the boiler
  • Connector wear on the sensor harness

Try this first

  1. Compare the affected group's display against the other groups.
  2. Power off for 30 seconds and back on.
  3. Keep the healthy groups in service; the fault stays contained to one.
When to call us

We test the sensor against a calibrated reference probe, descale the affected boiler if scale is insulating the probe, and replace the sensor if it reads out of spec. The PID setpoint is verified for that group after the swap, and the other groups are left untouched. Call us.

The PID can't hold one group's setpoint within tolerance. Behind it is usually NTC drift, scale insulating the heating element, or a controller offset that has shifted over time.

  1. Power the machine off for 30 seconds and back on.
  2. Compare the set temperature against the display once fully warm.
  3. Confirm the descale schedule is current.
When to call us

We diagnose the NTC, descale the boiler, verify element resistance, and recalibrate the PID through the service interface. Each group on a Synesso is calibrated on its own, so the work is scoped to the one that drifted, with temperature stability verified across a 10-shot test before sign-off. Call us.

Element fault Heating element weak or open-circuit Critical

The element is drawing below its rated wattage or has gone open-circuit. Slow heat-up, a boiler that rarely reaches setpoint, or repeated under-temperature alerts after a descale are the telltale symptoms.

  • Element burned out or gone open-circuit
  • Scale-driven hot spots damaging the element
  • Element drawing below rated wattage

Try this first

  1. Time the warm-up against what the machine used to need.
  2. Power off for 30 seconds and back on to clear a stale alert.
  3. If a boiler never reaches setpoint, keep the affected group out of service.
When to call us

We measure element resistance and supply voltage, inspect for scale and burn-out damage, and replace the element. The affected boiler is descaled in the same visit so the new element doesn't start scaling from day one. Call us.

Steam

Steam pressure fault Steam boiler not maintaining pressure Warning

The steam boiler is sagging below setpoint or cycling erratically. On Synesso it sits separate from the brew boilers, controlled by a mechanical pressurestat on the Cyncra and older MVP builds or a sensor on newer generations.

  • Scale inside the steam boiler
  • Pressurestat drifting on Cyncra and older MVP builds
  • Degraded element on the steam circuit

Try this first

  1. Watch the steam gauge through a service period and note how far it sags.
  2. Ease off back-to-back steaming and see whether pressure recovers.
  3. Confirm the water supply to the machine is fully open.
When to call us

We descale the steam boiler, test the pressurestat at setpoint where one is fitted, and measure element resistance. The faulty component is replaced and stability verified over a 30-minute hold test. Call us.

Steam valve wear Steam wand cartridge worn or steam weak Warning

The steam valve cartridge or tip seal has worn. You'll see drips when the valve is closed, weak pressure at full open, or a valve that catches mid-throw. Standard wear on the platform.

Likely causes

  • Steam valve cartridge worn past sealing
  • Tip seal degraded
  • Scale through the wand internals

Try this first

  1. Open the valve fully and snap it closed once to clear the seat.
  2. Soak the steam tip and clear its holes.
  3. Purge the wand before and after every pitcher.
When to call us

We rebuild the steam valve with fresh cartridges and seals, descale the wand internals and tip orifice, and verify dry steam delivery at full open. Pressure is reconfirmed at the gauge before sign-off. Call us.

Group head

T-ring leak Saturated-group T-ring seal leak Warning

This one isn't a numbered code. Synesso's saturated groups seal to the boiler with proprietary T-rings, and a failed T-ring shows up as steam venting from the group body or coffee and water tracking down the side of the casting. It is the single most common wear-state fault on the platform.

Likely causes

  • T-ring seal worn past sealing
  • Group bolts off their torque sequence
  • Years of thermal cycling at the group casting

Try this first

  1. Wipe the group casting dry and watch where moisture reappears.
  2. Note whether it's steam venting or liquid tracking down the side.
  3. Don't tighten the group bolts yourself; the torque sequence matters.
When to call us

We pull the group, replace the T-ring with the correct Synesso part, follow the specific torque sequence on the group bolts, and verify a clean seal under brew pressure. Generic O-rings do not work here, and we keep T-rings for the MVP Hydra and S-Series in stock. Call us.

Pressure

Pre-infusion solenoid Pre-infusion flat or absent (MVP Hydra) Warning

The MVP Hydra gives each group its own electronically controlled pre-infusion circuit. A failed solenoid or a degraded controller output produces flat pre-infusion, or no infusion phase at all, on the affected group.

Likely causes

  • Solenoid sticking or gone open-circuit
  • Controller output signal degrading
  • Wiring fault on that group's circuit

Try this first

  1. Power the machine off for 30 seconds and back on.
  2. Compare the pre-infusion phase across groups.
  3. Note whether the curve matches what your bar programmed.
When to call us

We test solenoid actuation and coil resistance, verify the controller signal, and replace the solenoid if it is sticking or open-circuit. Pre-infusion curves are logged before and after the work so the operator can see the change. Call us.

Pump

Group pump fault Independent pump pressure fault (MVP Hydra) Warning

Each MVP Hydra group has its own rotary pump. Pressure drift on one group while the others stay stable points at that group's pump or its expansion valve, not at the brew system as a whole.

Likely causes

  • That group's pump head wearing below spec
  • Expansion valve drifted on the group circuit
  • Restriction between pump and group

Try this first

  1. Watch each group's gauge during shots and note which sags.
  2. Confirm the water supply and inlet filter aren't restricting flow.
  3. Keep the healthy groups in service; the fault stays contained.
When to call us

We measure each group's pressure at the portafilter, isolate the failing pump, and rebuild or replace the pump head. We carry pump heads for the MVP and S-Series in stock, and the other groups stay in service during the work. Call us.

Sensors

Flow meter fault Dose drift on S-Series volumetric Warning

Volumetric dosing lives or dies on the flow meter's pulse count. Mineral buildup on the impeller drops pulses, the controller reads the gaps as dose drift, and shot volumes start varying cycle to cycle.

  • Mineral buildup dropping impeller pulses
  • Worn impeller bearing
  • Softener or filter exhausted upstream

Try this first

  1. Reprogram one dose and test whether it holds over ten shots.
  2. Weigh shots from each group to see which meters wander.
  3. Check the softener and filter are in date.
When to call us

We pull the flow meter, clean the mineral deposit off the impeller, reinstall, and reprogram each dose against a target volume by weight. A worn impeller bearing means the meter is replaced instead, and softener and filter status are confirmed at the same visit. Call us.

Electronics

Controller fault Controller board fault or display unresponsive Warning

Ribbon connectors and membrane buttons wear over years of daily use. The symptoms run from a single dead shot button to a fully blank display.

Likely causes

  • Ribbon connector wear behind the panel
  • Membrane button worn through
  • Controller board fault, the rarest of the three

Try this first

  1. Power the machine off for a full minute and back on.
  2. Test each button and note exactly which respond.
  3. Photograph anything the display shows before it blanks.
When to call us

We diagnose whether the fault is the controller, the keypad, or the wiring harness before ordering anything. Replacement boards and keypads come through Middleby's parts network, generally on a same-week turnaround. Call us.

Water

Low-water alarm Low water alarm with a full boiler Warning

A level probe in one of the boilers has scaled over and stopped conducting, so the controller sees an empty boiler that is actually full. Machines fed unsoftened municipal water are the usual victims.

Likely causes

  • Scale coating the level probe until it stops conducting
  • Autofill circuit not responding to the probe signal
  • Unsoftened municipal feed accelerating scale

Try this first

  1. Confirm the water supply valve is open and any filter isn't exhausted.
  2. Power off for 30 seconds and back on so the level circuit re-reads.
  3. Note which boiler the alarm names, if the display says.
When to call us

We pull the probe, descale or replace it, verify the autofill circuit, and confirm correct level on refill. Water hardness is checked at the same time, and a softener is recommended if the scaling keeps coming back. Call us.

Can I clear or reset a Synesso error code myself?

Sometimes. Many Synesso codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.

Why does the same Synesso error keep coming back?

A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.

My Synesso code isn't listed. Why?

Synesso updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.

How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?

Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day.

Do I need to be authorized by Synesso to reset an error code?

No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Synesso, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.

Is it worth fixing an old Synesso machine that keeps throwing codes?

Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.

Will independent service void my Synesso warranty?

If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Synesso's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.
