Group head gasket leaking under brew pressure

Group gaskets on a hard-working Polaris give 12 to 18 months, so a leak under pressure is just the clock running out. We pull the group, renew the gasket and dispersion screen together, clean the threads, and pull a few shots to confirm a clean seal.

Dispersion screen channelling or uneven flow

Uneven flow through the screen comes from coffee oil and fines baking onto its face. We fit a new screen, backflush the group with detergent, and check that water spreads evenly before reassembling.

Brew pressure won't reach 9 bar at the group

Falling short of 9 bar means a worn rotary pump, a drifted expansion valve, or a clogged inlet screen. We gauge it with a blind portafilter to isolate the cause, set the OPV against a calibrated gauge, and quote a pump if its output has dropped below spec.

Pump hammers or starts hard each cycle

Hammering on each cycle is air trapped in the inlet, low supply pressure to the machine, or a worn rotary vane. We bleed the line, confirm inlet pressure meets spec, and open the pump head; a worn rotary gets quoted for replacement.

PID per-group offset drifting across the groups

The Polaris holds a separate PID offset for each group, and those wander as the sensor ages or after an undocumented poke at the service menu. We read brew temperature group by group with a Scace device, dial each offset back to spec, and confirm it stays put across 10 straight shots per group.

Steam boiler running below set pressure

Low steam-boiler pressure is usually scale insulating the element or a pressurestat that has drifted. We descale the boiler, check element resistance and current draw, hold the pressurestat against a calibrated gauge, and replace whichever reads off.

One group running hot while the others are stable

When a single group runs hot while the rest behave, the fault lives in that group: its NTC sensor, its heat exchanger, or its PID calibration. We compare the sensor against a reference probe, confirm the heater circuit is sound, and recalibrate the PID. If the sensor is the problem, swapping it is straightforward.

Water pooling under the machine

Water under the machine is a brew-group seal, a cracked internal line, or the drain backing up. We pressure-test each circuit, clear the drain, and trace the leak to where it starts. Seals go in on the spot.

Drip tray overflow during peak service

An overflowing tray at peak is a drain hose packed with grounds or kinked behind the machine. We clear the line, check the slope it drains on, and re-route the plumbing if the install geometry is working against gravity.

Steam wand dripping with valve closed

A wand dripping with the valve shut is a worn steam-valve cartridge or scale sitting on the seat. We rebuild the valve with a fresh cartridge and seals, descale the wand internals if scale is in play, and cycle it to confirm it closes dry.

Weak steam pressure or steam wand spitting water

Weak or spitting steam traces to a boiler that will not hold pressure, scale narrowing the steam path, or blocked jets in the tip. We descale, confirm pressure under load, clear the jets, and swap any tip that has eroded.

EVD dose programming overshooting or undershooting

Doses that overshoot or fall short are nearly typically mineral buildup on the flow meter. We pull the meter, clean the impeller, confirm a clean pulse to the controller, and reset the dose targets against a calibrated shot glass.

Side RGB lighting panel dark or flickering

Dark or flickering side lighting is usually a failed LED driver, a loose ribbon, or one dead segment dragging the whole chain. We check the driver output, reseat the connectors, and replace the strip if individual segments have gone.

Touch keypad unresponsive on one group

A dead keypad on one group is typically a cracked solder joint on its board or a failed ribbon. We open the interface, test continuity through it, and replace the keypad assembly if the membrane itself has failed.

Auto-fill solenoid not opening or boiler running low

A boiler running low means the fill solenoid coil has failed, the valve seat is scaled shut, or the level probe is scaled over and falsely reading full. We test the solenoid electrically, descale the valve, clean or replace the probe, and watch the auto-fill cycle run end to end.

Cup warmer not heating

A cold cup warmer is a failed element or a thermal fuse that blew after the plate ran dry. We measure element resistance, replace it if it is out of spec, and check the thermal cutoff if it has tripped.

Why do the temperatures drift between groups on my Polaris Pro?

Each group carries its own PID offset, and those wander as the NTC sensor ages or after an undocumented change in the service menu. We read brew water at each group with a Scace device, reset every offset to spec, and confirm it holds across ten straight shots. Left alone it shows up as one group pulling hot or sour while the others are fine.

What does Err 02 mean on a Polaris Pro?

Err 02 is a brew-group NTC reading out of range, so the controller locks out just that group and leaves the rest live. It is usually a failed or drifted sensor, or moisture in the connector after a brew-circuit leak. We test the probe at the controller, replace it, and re-baseline the PID offset with a Scace before handing it back.

The side RGB lighting on my Polaris Pro has gone dark. Is that serious?

Not mechanically, no. A dark or flickering panel is almost always a failed LED driver, a loose ribbon, or one dead segment dragging the chain. We test the driver output, reseat the connectors, and replace the strip if individual segments have gone. The machine pours fine in the meantime.

My Polaris Pro EVD doses keep overshooting. What causes that?

Mineral buildup on the flow meter, nearly every time. As scale coats the impeller the count drifts and the volumetric shots run long. We pull the meter, clean the impeller, confirm a clean pulse to the controller, and reprogram the doses against a calibrated shot glass. On normal volume that holds six to twelve months.

How many shots a day can a Polaris Pro handle?

It is rated up to about 400 shots a day, and the multi-boiler layout with per-group PID is what lets it hold shot quality at that volume. If you are consistently past that, the wear parts simply arrive faster, and that is worth a conversation about service intervals rather than a bigger machine.

Which grinders pair with the Polaris Pro?

It runs with an external grinder, typically the Wega 6.4A or 8.4A or a third-party commercial unit, rather than building one in. We will check burrs, dose, and calibration alongside the machine, but the grinder is serviced as its own item.

Why is one group on my Polaris Pro running hotter than the others?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?
