The 5000 S+.

The WMF 5000 S+ is a hospitality flagship rated for up to 250 cups a day. Three grinders with three hoppers let it run a wide menu without swapping beans, while full Dynamic Milk Assist and a high-output dual boiler hold quality through peak service. On the bench the extra capacity shows in the wear: the third grinder's light-use hopper, the milk system, and the boiler's recovery are where most of the work lands.

Brew system & pressure 3 issues
!

Brew unit jamming under continuous high-volume use

Worn cam followers, packed grind, or a misaligned piston. We pull the unit, clean it, fit fresh gaskets, lubricate, and confirm clean cycling.

!

Coffee dispensed weak under load

Grind drift, low temperature, or pump pressure dropping off. We measure brew pressure, check temperature, adjust the dose, and quote a pump replacement if the pump is the cause.

!

Coffee grounds in the cup

A worn brew screen or piston seal. We inspect, replace the worn parts, and reset the grind.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Steam boiler not recovering between drinks

Scale, a degrading element, or a regulator drifting. We descale, test element resistance, confirm the regulator, and replace whatever is failing.

!

Brew boiler temperature unstable

NTC sensor drift or scale buildup. We descale, recalibrate the temperature, and replace the NTC if it reads out of spec.

!

Descaling alert won't clear

The counter was not reset, or hardness sits outside the calibrated range. We reset, recheck hardness, and replace the filter cartridge if it is exhausted.

!

Water in drip tray

A brew unit seal leak or a blocked drain. We pressure-test, clear the blockage, and reseal.

Milk & steam 5 issues
!

Dynamic Milk Assist sensors drifting

A flow or temperature sensor drifting in the Assist module under sustained service. We test the sensors, recalibrate, and replace any that read out of spec.

!

Hot foam quality dropping over service period

Milk-protein buildup that accelerates under sustained service. We deep-clean the Dynamic Milk, replace the cleaning supply, reset the air metering, and confirm each profile.

!

Cold foam flat or watery

Air valve calibration or chilled-air pump wear. We recalibrate, test the pump, and replace it if needed.

!

Milk pump losing prime mid-service

An air leak in the suction line, a worn impeller, or a blocked intake. We pressure-test the line, inspect the pump, and replace the impeller and seals.

!

Sour smell in milk drinks

A skipped daily clean. We deep-clean the pathway, replace the cleaning supply, and refresh the routine with your team.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Third grinder feeding unevenly

A light-use hopper building up an oily-bean coating in the throat. We clean the third throat, recalibrate the dose, and confirm it feeds consistently.

!

Inconsistent dose across primary grinders

Burr wear under sustained volume. We weigh dose from each grinder, measure the burr gap, recalibrate, and replace burrs as needed.

!

Touchscreen frozen during peak

A firmware hang. We reset the controller, check the firmware, and reflash if needed.

!

WMF F-code displayed

We pull the error log, identify the failing component, and replace the specific sensor, relay, or board element.

!

CoffeeConnect telemetry offline

Network drift or a failing comms module. We verify the network settings, reset the telemetry stack, and replace the module if it is the fault.

!

Self-cleaning cycle won't complete

A level sensor misreading or a blockage. We trace where the cycle stalls, clear it, and replace the sensor if needed.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right WMF water filter ends the repeat visits.

FAQ

WMF 5000 S+, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

Why is the third grinder on our 5000 S+ feeding unevenly?

The third hopper often sees lighter use, and the beans in it can develop an oily coating that slows the feed, sometimes with dose-sensor drift on top. We clean the third throat, recalibrate the dose, and confirm it feeds consistently over a run of shots. It's a common 5000 S+ quirk, not a sign of a worn grinder.

Our 5000 S+ foam quality drops off as the morning goes on. What causes that?

That's milk-protein buildup accumulating under sustained service, which the wider menu and higher volume accelerate. We deep-clean the Dynamic Milk, fit the right-sized cleaning cartridge, reset the air metering, and verify each profile. Keeping the daily clean on schedule is what stops it returning.

The steam boiler on our 5000 S+ isn't recovering between drinks. Why?

Under continuous demand, scale, a degrading element, or a regulator drifting will all slow recovery. We descale, test the element resistance, confirm the regulator holds spec, and replace whatever is failing. On a machine pouring 250 a day, scale is usually first on the list.

How long do the burrs last in a 5000 S+ at cafe volume?

WMF steel burrs typically go 12 to 24 months at high volume, but they wear faster on the hopper doing the most work. The tell is dose drift and thinning shots. We weigh dose from each grinder, measure the burr gap, and replace burrs only when the measurements say so.

Is the 5000 S+ worth repairing, or should we replace it?

Almost always worth repairing. A 5000 S+ is a major capital machine, and most faults, even a brew unit overhaul or a grinder rebuild, cost a fraction of replacement. We give you the repair quote and an honest read on the machine's remaining life, and you make the call.

Why is our 5000 S+ brew boiler temperature unstable?

Usually NTC sensor drift or scale buildup throwing off the reading. We descale the circuit, recalibrate the temperature, and replace the NTC if it reads out of spec. Unstable brew temperature shows up as inconsistent extraction, so it's worth sorting before it affects the cup.

Can the 5000 S+ run three different beans at once?

Yes, that's the point of the three hoppers and grinders: decaf, a house espresso, and a second blend can all run without anyone swapping beans mid-service. The trade-off is that the least-used hopper needs its throat kept clean, which is the most common feeding issue we see on the platform.

Do you carry 5000 S+ parts with you?

The high-wear items ride on the truck: Dynamic Milk seals and O-rings, milk hoses and impellers, brew unit gaskets and cam followers, and common sensors. That handles most 5000 S+ calls in one visit. Burr sets, a full brew unit, a display, or a pump are ordered per job, usually with us in a day or two.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
