Astoria · Current heritage-styled traditional espresso

The Sabrina.

The Sabrina is Astoria's heritage-styled café machine: 1960s chrome and curves over current CMA hydraulics. It pulls up to 250 shots a group on a heat-exchanger boiler, and specialty bars run it as much for presence as performance. Under the styling the service story is ordinary traditional-espresso work: group seals, steam valves, pump pressure, and boiler scale, with extra care on teardown so the panels and chrome come off and back on clean.

Sabrina faults we diagnose

Sabrina faults we see, and how we resolve them.

The Sabrina faults below are the ones we see most, group seals, steam valves, pump pressure, and boiler recovery, with the cause and the fix for each, and notes on handling the chrome.

Brew system & pressure 6 issues
!

Group head gasket weeping

Routine consumable wear. We replace the gasket and dispersion screen, clean the group threads, and reseat the portafilter under brew pressure to confirm a dry seal.

!

Dispersion screen pitted

Oil baking onto the screen disturbs even flow. We replace the screen, backflush with detergent, and verify even dispersion before reassembly.

!

Group solenoid sticking

Scale on the solenoid seat or coil wear. We test the coil, descale the valve, and rebuild the cartridge so the group fills and drains cleanly.

!

Steam pressure swing

Mechanical pressurestat wear. We test against a reference gauge, adjust the deadband, and replace it if it's out of tolerance.

!

Brew pressure low

Pump wear, OPV drift, or an inlet-screen clog. We gauge brew pressure, isolate the cause, adjust the OPV, and quote a pump head if it's below spec.

!

Pump hammering at start of shot

Air, a starved inlet, or a worn vane. We bleed the line, confirm inlet pressure, and inspect the pump.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Brew temperature unstable

HX scale, steam-boiler pressure drift, or sensor calibration. We descale the HX, verify pressurestat calibration, and confirm brew water at the group with a Scace device.

!

Steam boiler slow to recover

Scale or a drifting pressurestat. We descale, measure element resistance, verify the pressurestat, and replace the failing part.

!

Water pooling under the machine

A group seal, a cracked line, or a drain blockage. We pressure-test, clear the drain, and trace the leak.

!

Boiler won't auto-fill

A failed solenoid, a scaled valve seat, or a level probe scaled over. We test the solenoid, descale the valve, and replace the probe if needed.

Milk & steam 2 issues
!

Steam wand dripping when closed

Steam valve cartridge wear. We rebuild the valve, descale the wand internals, and verify a dry shut-off.

!

Weak steam

Boiler not at pressure, or scale in the circuit. We descale, verify pressure under load, and clear the tip jets.

Electronics, grinder & other 3 issues
!

SAE dose buttons drifting

Flow-meter mineral buildup or a worn membrane. We clean the flow meter, verify pulse output, reprogram doses, and replace the membrane if it's intermittent.

!

Controller error or unexplained shutdown

We read the fault history, identify the code, and address the root cause. Most faults resolve with a sensor or relay replacement.

!

Body-shell trim loose or chrome scratched after service

Sabrina body panels need careful handling on teardown. We protect surfaces during service, retorque mounting hardware to spec, and document any cosmetic state before and after the visit.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right Astoria water filter ends the repeat visits.

Astoria Sabrina

FAQ

Astoria Sabrina, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

Will servicing my Sabrina scratch the chrome?

Not if it's done carefully, which is the point of using a specialist. The Sabrina's body panels and chrome need protection during teardown, so we cover surfaces, retorque mounting hardware to spec, and document the cosmetic state before and after the visit.

Why is my Sabrina's steam wand dripping when it's closed?

The steam valve cartridge or seat O-ring has worn, letting condensate and pressurized water past. We rebuild the valve with a fresh cartridge and seat O-rings, descale the wand internals if scale is contributing, and verify a fully dry shut-off across several steam cycles.

My Sabrina is leaking at the portafilter. What is it?

Almost always a worn group gasket. We replace the gasket and dispersion screen as a pair, clean the group threads, and reseat the portafilter so it seals clean under brew pressure. It's quick, routine work.

Why are my Sabrina's shots running cool or inconsistent?

On the Sabrina's heat-exchanger boiler, brew temperature tracks steam-boiler pressure and HX scale. We descale the heat exchanger, check pressurestat calibration, and confirm brew water at the group with a Scace device so shots come back to a stable temperature.

Does the Sabrina use the same parts as other Astoria machines?

Largely, yes. Behind the heritage shell the Sabrina runs current CMA hydraulics, so group seals, steam valves, pressurestats, and pump parts come from the same well-stocked catalogue as the rest of the range. The aesthetic is unique; the service parts mostly aren't.

Why won't my Sabrina's boiler fill properly?

Usually a scaled level probe reading wrong, a failed inlet solenoid, or scale in the valve seat. We test the solenoid electrically, descale the valve, clean or replace the level probe, and verify the auto-fill cycle runs end to end.

How long will a Sabrina last in a specialty bar?

On a copper-boiler heat-exchanger platform, twelve to fifteen years of daily service is realistic with the scale kept down and the seals refreshed on schedule. The heritage styling doesn't change the lifespan; the water and the upkeep do.

Can you service the pre-infusion SAEP version of the Sabrina too?

Yes. The SAEP adds a mechanical pre-infusion chamber to the same Sabrina platform, which is one more wear point in the brew path. We strip and reseal the chamber, verify the check-valve, and confirm the pressure ramp on a gauge, on top of the usual Sabrina service.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Astoria Sabrina deserves a specialist.

One call, careful hands on the chrome, and the machine back to work.
