Saturated group leaking water from the head

On the Storm's saturated groups the head seal sits directly against the brew chamber, so it shows wear sooner than a conventional gasket. We pull the group, replace the head seal and dispersion screen as a pair, inspect the saturated-group body for pitting, and pressure-test the seal under brew load.

Group head gasket weeping around the portafilter

Routine consumable wear after nine to eighteen months on a busy bar. We swap the gasket and dispersion screen together, clean the group threads, and reseat the portafilter to confirm a dry seal under brew pressure.

Channelling or uneven dispersion across the puck

Usually a pitted or oil-baked dispersion screen, or a worn brew-side seal letting water bypass the screen. We replace the screen, backflush with detergent, and inspect the screen carrier for warpage, verifying even flow across the face before reassembly.

Steam pressure cycling outside set band

Mechanical pressurestat wear opens up the differential over time, so steam pressure swings beyond spec. We test the pressurestat against a reference gauge, adjust the deadband where it's adjustable, and replace the unit if the swing is out of tolerance.

Brew pressure won't reach 9 bar at the group

Rotary pump wear, OPV drift, or a clogged inlet screen are the three usual causes. We gauge brew pressure with a blind portafilter, isolate the pump from the OPV, adjust the valve against a calibrated gauge, and replace the pump if output is below spec.

Pump hammering or vibrating at start of shot

Air in the line, a starved inlet from low feed pressure or a partly closed shutoff, or a worn rotary vane. We bleed the line, confirm inlet pressure is within spec, and inspect the pump head, quoting a replacement only if the rotary assembly is worn.

OPV (expansion valve) leaking or pressure unstable mid-shot

The OPV cartridge wears, and once the seat is grooved the valve weeps and brew pressure turns unsettled. We rebuild or replace the expansion valve, recalibrate against a portafilter pressure gauge, and confirm a flat 9-bar profile across the shot.

Brew temperature drift between groups

Each Storm SAE group runs its own PID and brew-side sensor, so drift means a sensor out of calibration or a PID offset changed without documentation. We measure brew water with a Scace device per group, recalibrate the offsets, and confirm stability across ten consecutive shots per group.

Steam boiler slow to recover under load

Scale insulating the steam-boiler element, followed by a drifting pressurestat, or a sensor fault on PID-controlled steam trims. We descale the boiler, measure element resistance and current draw, verify the pressurestat against a reference gauge, and replace whichever part is failing.

Water pooling under the machine when idle

Either a brew-group seal leak, a cracked internal water line, or a drain-line blockage causing backflow. We pressure-test the brew circuit, clear the drain to confirm flow, and trace the leak to its source, replacing seals on the spot and quoting cracked lines first.

Inlet solenoid not opening or boiler refusing to auto-fill

A failed solenoid coil, scale lodged in the valve seat, or a level probe scaled over and reading full when the boiler is low. We test the solenoid electrically, descale the valve, clean or replace the level probe, and verify the auto-fill cycle runs end to end.

Steam wand dripping water when closed

Steam valve cartridge wear or scale on the seat lets condensate past. We rebuild the valve with a fresh cartridge and O-rings, descale the wand internals, and verify a fully dry shut-off across several steam cycles.

Weak steam pressure or wand sputtering water

Either the steam boiler isn't reaching set pressure, descale and pressurestat, or scale has narrowed the steam-circuit bore. We descale the wand and circuit, verify boiler pressure under load, and clear the wand-tip jets, replacing eroded tips.

SAE dose buttons triggering wrong volumes or drifting

Flow-meter mineral buildup is the leading cause, with a worn-through dose-button membrane behind the rest. We pull the flow meter, clean the impeller, verify pulse output to the controller, reprogram doses against a calibrated shot glass, and replace the keypad membrane if it's intermittent.

Display lockup or controller board fault on Storm

We read the fault log through the service interface, identify the specific code, and address the root cause, whether sensor, relay, board, or solenoid. Software hangs clear with a controlled reset; hardware faults are quoted before we replace any parts.

Brew-side NTC sensor reading erratic on one group

Sensor wires fatigue at the strain relief, or the sensor itself drifts after years of thermal cycling. We test the NTC against the resistance reference table, inspect the harness for chafe, and replace the sensor if it's out of spec, recalibrating the group's PID after the swap.

Cup warmer not getting warm or running too hot

Either the cup-warmer element has failed open-circuit or the thermostat is sticking. We measure element resistance, test the thermostat, and replace the failing component, verifying against a surface-temperature probe before sign-off.

Why is my Storm SAE leaking from the top of the group?

How many shots a day can a Storm SAE really handle?

Why has brew pressure on my Storm SAE drifted off 9 bars?

Usually a worn rotary pump, an expansion valve that has drifted, or a clogged inlet screen. We gauge the group with a blind portafilter, isolate the pump from the OPV, adjust the valve against a calibrated gauge, and replace the pump head if output is below spec.

Can you fix a frozen touchscreen or controller on the Storm?

Yes. Most lockups are a firmware hang that clears with a controlled reset and, where supported, a reflash from a known-good image. If the controller board or touch module has actually failed, it's a part swap, not a write-off, and we quote it before fitting.

Is the Storm SAE the same machine as the Tempesta?

They share a platform family. The Storm SAE carries saturated groups, twin PID, and SAE electronic dosing; the Tempesta is the competition-tier build of the same lineage, with programmable pre-infusion and a few extras. For service that means the core hydraulics and electronics are familiar across both.

Do you service both 2-group and 3-group Storm SAE machines?

Yes, both configurations. The extra group adds another PID, NTC, solenoid, and flow meter to check, but it's the same platform throughout. We service the per-group electronics and the shared boiler and pump side the same way on either size.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?
