Do you actually work on Elektra lever machines, or just the pump models?
Both, and the lever machines are the reason a lot of operators call us in the first place. We rebuild spring-piston groups on the Belle Epoque and Sixties, replace springs and piston seals, and service the dome boilers, work most generalist shops turn down. The modern Eklipto, Verve, and Barlume side is routine for us too.
Why does my Belle Epoque pull weak shots even though the grind hasn't changed?
On a spring-lever machine, weak shots usually mean the group spring has lost tension after years of cycling, so it can no longer hold 8 to 9 bar through the pull. We measure the spring against spec, check for set and corrosion, and fit a new one if it reads low. A binding piston can mimic the same symptom, so we rule that out first.
Are you an authorized Elektra service centre?
No, we are an independent commercial coffee specialist, and we would rather say that plainly. It means we work on out-of-warranty and vintage machines, including 30 and 40-year-old Belle Epoques, and we quote against the actual job rather than a manufacturer price book. For parts we still draw on the Carimali and Elektra network.
How does a quote work on an Elektra repair?
The diagnostic visit is a flat, known amount you hear when you book, so the meter is not running while we find the fault. Parts go on top at their real cost, and anything larger than a routine seal or gasket gets a written quote on-site before we start. A spring rebuild and a dripping steam valve are very different numbers, and you see both before agreeing.
Can you still get parts for an old Belle Epoque?
Usually, yes. Current seal kits, springs, and group parts come through the Carimali and Elektra network, and for genuinely discontinued pieces we salvage from decommissioned units or fabricate an equivalent where it is sound to do so. Availability does thin out year by year, so if a vintage machine is central to your bar, it is worth having us look it over before something major fails.
Why can't my regular espresso tech fix my Elektra lever machine?
Lever machines have a different fault profile than pump machines. The spring-piston group, the dome-pressurized boiler, and the gasket geometry do not match the E61 service kits most techs carry, and splitting a group under spring tension takes specific tooling. A tech who is excellent on a La Marzocco can still be stuck in front of a Belle Epoque, which is exactly the gap we fill.
What's the difference between servicing a Sixties Lever and a Sixties Semi-Automatic?
They look almost identical but they are not the same machine underneath. The Lever runs spring-piston groups, so its service is springs, piston seals, and pivots, like a small Belle Epoque. The Semi-Automatic runs a conventional heat exchanger with a rotary pump and pressurestat, so its work is OPV pressure, group gaskets, and steam valves. We confirm which you have before quoting.
My cafe just got an Eklipto. Are parts and service hard to find since it's new?
The Eklipto only launched at SIGEP in 2025, so its parts inventory is still ramping up across the network. We source through the Carimali and Elektra distribution channel and keep an eye on availability for the platform, so we can tell you upfront if a specific part is on a lead time. The actual service, heat exchanger, E61 groups, PID, is familiar ground.
The PID on my Verve keeps drifting off temperature. What causes that?
Drifting brew temperature on a PID platform is almost always an NTC sensor reading off, or scale insulating the brew element so the controller chases a moving target. We test the sensor against its resistance table, descale the circuit, and recalibrate the offset until it holds steady across a run of shots. If your water is hard, we will also look at the filtration feeding it.
We run a few Elektra machines across two cafes. Can you handle all of them?
Yes, multi-machine and multi-site visits are routine. One booking can cover the Belle Epoque on the main bar and the Verve at your second location, with one report listing what was done to each. When several machines share the same fault, the cause is usually the water or the daily routine rather than the machines, and we will flag that.
How do I know when an old Elektra is worth repairing versus replacing?
We give you the repair number and an honest read on what is left in the machine, then you decide. On a Belle Epoque the answer is almost always repair, because the bones are mechanical and rebuildable, and these machines run 30 years and more with service. On a tired pump machine facing several major parts at once, we will say plainly when replacement is the better spend.
The steam wand on my Belle Epoque drips and the steam feels weak. Is that a big job?
Usually not. On the Belle Epoque the steam valves are large and well built, so a drip or weak steam is almost always worn cartridge and tip seals rather than a failed valve body. We rebuild the valve, clear scale from the wand internals and tip, and confirm dry steam at full open. The steam tip geometry is specific to the platform, so we fit the right part.
Does Toronto-area water cause problems for Elektra machines?
It does, mostly through scale. The local supply is moderately hard, and scale settles around boiler elements and dome-boiler bases, where it slows heat-up and pulls pressure down. On a busy bar we recommend proper filtration and a regular descale interval, and we check scale condition on every visit. Catching it early is far cheaper than a scaled-out element.
Do you fix Elektra machines on-site or take them to a shop?
On-site almost always. Lever rebuilds, group services, boiler descaling, and pump and PID work all happen right at your counter with the panels off. The rare exception is something like a full dome-boiler rebuild or major water damage, which belongs on a bench, and we will tell you that before anything leaves your building.
Are you cheaper than going through Elektra's own service channel?
Often, but that is not really the pitch. We quote against the actual work in front of us, not a factory price list, and we will tell you when a warranty claim through the manufacturer is genuinely the better route. The value is the transparency and the lever expertise; the price usually follows from that.
Can you restore the brass and copper on a Belle Epoque that's gone dull?
Yes. The polished cladding is the whole signature of the machine, so cosmetic restoration is part of keeping one right, not an afterthought. We bring the brass and copper back to a mirror finish, source replacement panels through the Carimali and Elektra channel where one is damaged, and refit with the original fasteners.
Our volumetric Elektra keeps drifting off its programmed shot volumes. Why?
Drifting doses on a volumetric machine point to mineral buildup on the flow meter impeller, or a controller that has slipped its calibration. We weigh the output across several cycles, clean or replace the flow meter, and reprogram each dose against a weighed target. If scale keeps fouling the meter, the water filtration is the real fix.
Our Belle Epoque is down during service. How quickly can someone come?
Tell us it is down and serving and we will move you up the route; urgent breakdowns get priority. Calls earlier in the day usually see a technician the same day, with later ones booked for the next morning. Give us the machine and the symptom when you book so the van leaves with the likely parts already on board.
Can you show our baristas how to keep a lever machine running right?
Yes, and we do it on the way out by default. A lot of lever trouble traces back to routine, flushing habits, how the group is locked and pulled, and daily cleaning, so we walk your team through what actually matters before we leave. It is the cheapest way to keep the next call from being the same one.
My Sixties keeps asking for water or won't fill the boiler. What's going on?
On the autofill machines that is usually a level probe scaled over or a sticking inlet solenoid, so the boiler stops topping up correctly. We pull and descale the probe, test the solenoid and feed pressure, and confirm the autofill cycles properly. On a manual-fill build the cause is different, and we check the fill path and float instead.
