Filter and espresso, one cabinet

Broken Franke A300 Fresh Brew? Expert repair across the GTA.

Filter coffee gone watery or the brew module jammed? The A300 Fresh Brew adds a filter-style brew module to the compact A300, so a fault can take both coffee styles down. We repair these regularly: brew-module flow drift, bypass and grounds-handling faults, EasyClean foam problems, a stalling brew unit. Tell us the symptom and the parts for the likely repair travel with us.

Franke · Compact super-automatic with Fresh Brew module

The A300 Fresh Brew.

The A300 Fresh Brew pairs the compact A300 platform with a filter-style Fresh Brew module. That lets one small machine pour bean-to-cup espresso and batch-style filter coffee at up to 80 cups a day for offices and boutique sites. We service it apart from the standard A300 because the brew-module flow, bypass ratios, filter-coffee temperature, and grounds handling throw faults the espresso group does not.

A300 Fresh Brew faults we diagnose

Common A300 Fresh Brew faults, and the fixes.

These are the A300 Fresh Brew faults we see on filter and espresso service calls, with the cause and the fix for each.

Brew system & pressure 3 issues
!

Brew unit stalling or won't complete a cycle

The brew piston is jamming on grind buildup or worn seals. We remove the brew unit, clean every wear surface, replace gaskets, lubricate the cam path with food-safe grease, and verify clean cycling across 5 test shots.

!

Coffee grounds appearing in the cup

A torn brew screen or a worn brew-piston seal is the cause. We inspect both screens, replace any that show wear, fit a new piston seal, and recalibrate grind coarseness.

!

Coffee dispensed weak or watery

Either the grind has drifted too coarse, the brew temperature is too low, or the pump output is below spec. We measure brew pressure, check water temperature, adjust the grind dose, and quote pump replacement if output is below spec.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Slow heating or won't reach brew temperature

Scale insulating the boiler element is the leading cause on the A300, followed by element degradation. We perform a full descale, measure heat-up time against spec, and replace the element if performance doesn't recover.

!

No steam from the wand

Blocked steam valve, scale in the steam circuit, or a failed steam boiler sensor. We descale the steam path, verify the valve actuates fully, and replace the valve cartridge if it's leaking past.

!

Descaling alert won't clear after the cycle

Either the cycle didn't run to completion or the counter wasn't reset properly. We verify the descale ran end-to-end, manually reset the counter, and check the water filter cartridge. If exhausted, we replace it on-site.

!

Water in drip tray that shouldn't be there

Brew unit seal leak, drain blockage causing overflow, or a hairline crack in an internal line. We pressure-test the brew circuit, clear blockages, and replace seals where leaks are confirmed.

Milk & steam 4 issues
!

EasyClean milk system producing weak or watery foam

Milk-protein buildup in the foam chamber and air-intake line is the leading cause, followed by a worn air-intake spring. We disassemble the milk system, sanitize all pathways, replace the intake spring and O-rings, then verify foam density with a calibration cycle before leaving.

!

Milk dispensing cold or lukewarm

Usually a failing milk temperature sensor or scale in the milk heat path. We test the sensor against a reference probe, descale the milk circuit, and replace the sensor if it's out of spec. Most cases are resolved in a single visit.

!

Milk pump not drawing from the container

Caused by a worn pump impeller, an air leak in the suction line, or a blocked intake screen. We pressure-test the line, inspect the pump head, and replace the impeller if flow is below spec. Suction-line seals are replaced as preventive while we're in there.

!

Off-taste or sour smell in milk drinks

A clear sign the daily clean has been skipped or cleaning solution is exhausted. We deep-clean the full milk pathway, sanitize the milk container connection, and refresh customer training on the daily cycle. If the smell persists, we replace the milk hose.

Electronics, grinder & other 5 issues
!

Inconsistent dose across pulls

Ceramic burr wear or dose-sensor drift is the usual cause. We weigh dose output across 10 shots to confirm variance, measure burr gap, recalibrate, and replace burrs if they're worn beyond spec.

!

Grinder noise or won't grind beans

Foreign objects in the hopper, beans bridging above the throat, or a failed grinder motor. We disassemble the grinder, clear any foreign objects or bridging, inspect burrs for chipping, and test motor current draw.

!

Touchscreen frozen or unresponsive

Either a firmware hang requiring a controller reset, or a hardware fault in the touch digitizer. We perform a hard reset, check firmware version, and reflash from a known-good image if needed.

!

Franke fault code on display

We read the full error log through the service interface, identify the specific fault, and replace the failing sensor, relay, or board component. Most A300 fault codes are resolved in a single visit.

!

Daily cleaning cycle won't complete

Usually a level sensor reading incorrectly or a partial blockage in the cleaning circuit. We diagnose where the cycle is stalling, clear the blockage, and replace the sensor if needed.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right Franke water filter ends the repeat visits.

FAQ

Franke A300 Fresh Brew, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

What is different about the Fresh Brew build compared to the standard A300?

It adds a filter-style Fresh Brew module on top of the espresso side, so it can pour batch-style filter coffee alongside bean-to-cup espresso. That module brings its own faults, brew-module flow, bypass ratios, filter-coffee temperature, and grounds handling, which is why we service it separately. The milk and grinder side behaves like the standard A300.

The filter coffee from our Fresh Brew module is coming out weak or watery. Why?

Usually the brew-module flow or bypass ratio has drifted, or the filter-coffee temperature has dropped below target. We measure the flow and temperature against spec, reset the bypass, and check the module for scale. A clogged or worn module gets serviced rather than guessed at.

Grounds are ending up in the filter coffee. What causes that?

On the Fresh Brew module that points to a grounds-handling fault: the module not ejecting the puck cleanly, or a worn screen letting fines through. We inspect the module, clear any buildup, replace a worn screen, and run test batches to confirm the cup comes through clean.

Does the Fresh Brew module need different cleaning than the espresso side?

Yes. The filter module has its own flow path and grounds handling that need their own clean, on top of the daily milk and brew-unit routine. We walk your team through the full schedule, because a skipped module clean is the most common reason these units start tasting off.

Why is the EasyClean milk foam on our Fresh Brew machine weak?

Same cause as on the espresso A300: milk protein narrowing the air-intake path or a tired air-intake spring. We strip and sanitize the milk system, fit fresh parts, and verify foam density on a calibration cycle. The filter module does not change how the milk side is serviced.

The brew unit on our Fresh Brew machine keeps stalling. What do you do?

We pull the brew unit, clear the grind buildup that jams the piston, fit new seals and gaskets, and lubricate the cam path with food-safe grease. Then we run test shots to confirm clean cycling. The filter module is checked at the same visit so both brew paths leave working.

How many cups a day can the Fresh Brew A300 handle?

About 80 cups a day across espresso and filter, the same footprint as the standard A300 in a compact, small-site machine. Splitting that between espresso and batch filter actually eases wear on the espresso brew unit, but the filter module then needs its own regular attention.

The descaling alert on our Fresh Brew machine will not clear. What now?

Either the descale did not run end to end or the counter did not reset, and the filter module's water path has to be included in the cycle. We confirm the descale completed, reset the counter, and check the filter cartridge. If the alert returns, scale in the module is the next suspect.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Franke A300 Fresh Brew deserves a specialist.
