Error code reference
Newco error codes, what they mean and how to fix them.
This page covers the fault indicators and service alerts you will see most often on Newco brewers, from tank-heat and fill timeouts through brew-valve, grinder, and touchscreen-communication faults. Each entry explains what the machine is telling you, what usually causes it, what to check first, and when the fault needs a technician.

About these codes. Compiled from Newco product documentation and our own GTA service logs. Where the machine shows a plain-language alert rather than a numbered code, we describe it by what it does. Updated August 2026
Tank
1 codeTank Heat Fault Tank not reaching brew temperature within timeout
The hot-water tank hasn't reached set temperature within the allowed warm-up window. The controller cuts heating to protect the element.
Likely causes
- Heating element open or heavily scaled
- High-limit thermostat tripped
- Element relay (SSR or contactor) failed
- Temperature probe reading low on touch models
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine at the wall
- Verify the supply is open and the tank is filling
- Reset the high-limit thermostat if accessible
Most tank heating faults on Newco units are element scale or a tripped high-limit. We descale, test the element, and replace as needed.
Brew valve
1 codeBrew Valve Fault Brew valve solenoid not actuating
The brew valve isn't responding to the controller's command, no brew flow, continuous flow, or leak-by between cycles.
Likely causes
- Brew valve coil open or shorted
- Diaphragm hardened or seat worn
- Wiring loom disconnected
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Visually verify the valve wiring is seated
We test the coil and replace the valve as an assembly. Most Newco brew valves are stocked on the truck.
Brew chamber
1 codeOCS Pro Brew Chamber Fault Brew chamber not homing or sealing
On OCS Pro single-cup brewers, the brew chamber hasn't homed correctly or isn't sealing for the brew cycle. Brew is aborted.
Likely causes
- Brew chamber seal worn
- Chamber drive motor weak
- Home-position sensor reading incorrectly
- Grind buildup obstructing seal
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Inspect the chamber for visible grind contamination
OCS Pro chamber service follows a Newco-specific procedure. We replace the seal kit and verify the chamber cycles cleanly.
Decanter
1 codeDecanter / Server Missing Decanter or thermal server not detected on base
On models with server-detect sensors, the carafe or thermal server is reading as absent. Brew is locked out to prevent dispensing without a server.
Likely causes
- Server actually not in position
- Server-detect microswitch contaminated
- Switch arm bent or misaligned
Try this first
- Reseat the server firmly on the base
- Brush coffee residue out of the switch area
Persistent server-detect faults with the server present need the switch cleaned or replaced.
Warmer
1 codeWarmer Fault Decanter warmer not heating
The warmer element isn't heating, or the warmer thermostat is reading abnormally. Coffee in the carafe will go cold.
Likely causes
- Warmer element open
- Warmer switch seized
- Thermostat failed open or stuck closed
- Wiring loom connection corroded at the warmer
Try this first
- Visually verify the warmer plate gets hot under a fresh brew
- Toggle the warmer switch if mechanical
Warmer elements are wear items. We test resistance and replace the failed element or switch.
Filter
1 codeFilter Replacement Alert Water filter cartridge cycle count reached
The filter cartridge usage counter has reached the configured limit. The brewer flags the alert until the counter is reset.
Likely causes
- Cartridge actually exhausted
- Counter not reset after the previous filter change
Try this first
- Replace the filter cartridge
- Reset the counter through the service menu after replacement
If the counter won't reset, we verify EEPROM retention on the controller.
Electronics
2 codesDisplay Fault / Communication Error Touchscreen lost communication with controller
On ACE Touch and OCS Pro touchscreen models, the display has lost serial communication with the main controller. Most functions are locked out.
Likely causes
- Ribbon cable unseated between display and main board
- Display module failed
- Firmware corruption
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Verify the display ribbon is seated where accessible
Persistent display faults need ribbon reseat, firmware reflash, or display module replacement. We diagnose before parts.
Programming Lost / Default Settings Programmed batch sizes reset to factory defaults
The controller has lost programmed batch sizes or brew profiles. The machine runs on factory defaults rather than the operator's recipes.
Likely causes
- Backup capacitor or battery failed
- EEPROM write fault after a power event
- Power interruption during the last programming change
Try this first
- Re-enter the operator's batch sizes
- Run a controlled power cycle to confirm settings hold
If settings drop again, we replace the backup power source. Routine 5-7 year service item.
Water
3 codesNo Fill / Fill Timeout Tank not filling within allowed time
The inlet cycle hasn't completed within the allowed window. Either the inlet solenoid isn't passing water or the level control isn't registering full.
Likely causes
- Inlet solenoid scaled or stuck closed
- Building supply tap closed or pressure too low
- Inlet screen blocked
- Float-stem seal failed on mechanical-fill models
- Level probe scaled on electronic-fill models
Try this first
- Verify the building supply is open
- Check the inlet hose isn't kinked
- Listen for the inlet solenoid clicking
If the solenoid clicks but no water flows, the valve or screen is blocked. We clean both and replace the solenoid if it won't seat.
Flow Meter Fault Flow meter not registering brew flow
On units equipped with a flow meter (ACE Touch, OCS Pro), no pulses are reaching the controller during brew. The cycle is aborted.
Likely causes
- Flow meter turbine clogged with deposits
- Flow meter cable disconnected
- Brew valve not actually opening
Try this first
- Run a hot-water dispense to check non-brew flow
- Inspect the flow meter cable connector
Flow meter cleaning is routine. We disassemble, clear the turbine, and verify pulse output.
Descale / Service Required Scheduled descale or service interval reached
The counter has reached the configured descale or service interval. Brew continues during a grace period.
Likely causes
- Descale interval reached based on water-hardness setting
- Service interval based on brew count reached
- Counter not reset after the previous service
Try this first
- Run the descale or maintenance procedure
- Reset the counter through the service menu
If the alert won't clear after a valid service, we verify the counter reset on the controller.
Sensors
1 codeTank Probe Fault Tank temperature probe out of range
On touchscreen and electronic models (ACE Touch, OCS Pro, certain NKT variants), the controller is reading the probe outside the valid range.
Likely causes
- Probe failed open or shorted
- Probe lead damaged
- Connector unseated
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Visually inspect the probe lead
Probes don't recover from open or shorted faults. We test resistance and replace on-site.
Other
2 codesGrinder Fault OCS Pro grinder dose timeout or fault
The integrated grinder ran longer than the maximum allowed dose time without reaching target, or the dose feedback didn't register.
Likely causes
- Empty bean hopper or beans bridging
- Burrs at end of life
- Grinder motor weak or relay sticking
- Dose-feedback sensor contaminated
Try this first
- Verify beans are present and flowing
- Tap the hopper to break any bridge
If beans are flowing and the fault persists, burrs are worn or the motor is weak. We measure dose by weight and replace as needed.
Brew Counter Service Reminder Brew count interval reached
The cumulative brew counter has reached the programmed service interval. The machine continues to operate but flags the alert.
Likely causes
- Service interval reached based on cumulative brew count
- Counter not reset after the previous service
Try this first
- Perform the scheduled service
- Reset the counter through the service menu
Persistent alerts after a valid reset usually mean the EEPROM is dropping the reset. We diagnose on-site.

FAQ
Newco error codes, frequently asked.
9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends. If the recurring ones are descale or water warnings, start with the right Newco water filter.
Updated August 2026
What does Newco error code Tank Heat Fault mean?
Every documented Newco fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.
Can I clear or reset a Newco error code myself?
Sometimes. Many Newco codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.
Why does the same Newco error keep coming back?
A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.
My Newco code isn't listed. Why?
Newco updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.
How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?
Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day.
Do I need to be authorized by Newco to reset an error code?
No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Newco, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.
Is it worth fixing an old Newco machine that keeps throwing codes?
Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.
Will independent service void my Newco warranty?
If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Newco's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.
How many Newco codes are documented on this page?
14 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
Track record
Receipts from a quarter-century of service work.
Asked them to look at a machine I bought second-hand. Honest assessment up front: the brew unit was past economical repair. They quoted a refurbished replacement instead of running up parts.
