Newco · Pour-over batch brewer

The NKT Single.

The Newco NKT Single is the pour-over decanter brewer behind thousands of office and restaurant coffee programs. One hot-water tank feeds one sprayhead over one decanter, and that simplicity is the point: there is little to go wrong and almost nothing that cannot be fixed in place. The wear items are the sprayhead, the heating element, the brew valve, and the warmer, and Newco keeps parts for them long enough that decade-old units still run.

NKT Single faults we diagnose

Common NKT Single faults, and how we fix them.

These are the NKT Single faults that actually book service calls, with the cause behind each one and how we put it right on-site.

Brew system & pressure 2 issues
!

Sprayhead scaled, weak or uneven brew

Mineral scale on the sprayhead warps the spray pattern, so water channels down one side of the basket. We pull the head, soak it in descaler, clear every hole, and check for an even spray before it goes back on.

!

Brew valve stuck or leaking past

Brew valves fail three ways: stuck closed for no brew, stuck open for continuous flow, or leak-by that drips into the basket at standby. We test coil resistance, check the diaphragm, and replace the valve as an assembly.

Water, boiler & heating 7 issues
!

Slow heating or coffee below brew temperature

Scale insulating the heating element is almost typically behind this. We descale the tank, inspect the element for scale damage, and replace it if the heat doesn't come back to spec.

!

Tank not filling

Usually a failed inlet solenoid or a clogged inlet screen. We test the valve, check the screen for debris, and replace whichever has given out.

!

Warmer plate not heating

Either the warmer element has worn out or the switch has failed. We measure the element's resistance, check the switch, and replace the part that's dead.

!

Warmer stuck on, scorching coffee

The warmer thermostat has seized closed and is cooking the pot. We swap the thermostat before it scorches another carafe.

!

Basket overflow or grounds in the carafe

Grind too fine for the NKT basket, or the wrong filter shape, backs water up over the rim. We confirm the grind setting and move the operator onto spec paper filters.

!

Scale buildup faster than expected

The local water runs hard, so scale comes back quickly. We descale and talk through a softening cartridge or filter to slow the next round.

!

Coffee tastes off after recent filter change

A fresh filter sheds carbon fines through the first few brews. We flush the cartridge, confirm it's seated the right way round, and retaste at the head.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Decanter cracked or chipped at the spout

Decanters are a field swap. We fit a fresh one and check that the warmer plate underneath still mates flat.

!

Decanter handle loose

The handle hardware has worked loose with use. We tighten it, or replace the handle if the mount is worn.

!

Thermostat drift

Thermostats drift as they age. We compare yours against a calibrated reference and replace it if it's reading outside spec.

!

Brew lockout indicator on

The tank simply hasn't reached its setpoint yet. We confirm the element and thermostat are working, and once the tank is up to temperature the lockout clears on its own.

!

Brew cycle stalls partway through

Something is restricting flow, usually a scaled sprayhead or a sticking brew valve. We trace it, then clear or replace whatever is choking the cycle.

!

Steam venting from tank top excessively

Either the pressure relief is acting up or the vent is blocked. We clear the vent and confirm the thermostat setpoint is where it should be.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right Newco water filter ends the repeat visits.

Newco NKT Single

FAQ

Newco NKT Single, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

Why is my NKT Single brewing weak and uneven?

Almost always a scaled sprayhead. Mineral buildup on the spray holes pushes water down one side of the basket, so the grounds brew unevenly and the coffee comes out thin. We pull the head, clear every hole, and check the dispersion tube above it before it goes back on.

The NKT Single takes forever to come back to temperature. Why?

Scale on the heating element is insulating it from the water. We descale the tank, inspect the element, and replace it if the heat does not return to spec. On hard water this keeps recurring until a softener goes in upstream.

Coffee keeps dripping into the basket between brews. Is that normal?

No, that is the brew valve leaking by. The diaphragm or seat has worn and is letting water past at standby. We test the valve and replace it as an assembly, which stops the drip and the watery first pot.

Why is the warmer scorching the coffee?

The warmer thermostat has seized closed and is holding the plate full-on. We swap the thermostat before it ruins another carafe. If a warmer instead will not heat at all, that is usually the element or switch, which we test and replace.

My NKT Single decanter cracked. Can you just replace it?

Yes, decanters are a field swap. We fit a fresh one and check that the warmer plate underneath still sits flat against it, since a warped plate shortens the next decanter's life.

How often should an NKT Single be descaled?

On hard water, every two to four months depending on volume. A busy restaurant scales faster than a small office. We check scale condition on every visit and can fit a softening cartridge if you are descaling more often than that.

Is an older NKT Single worth repairing?

Almost always. The wear parts are inexpensive and Newco keeps them available for years, so repair beats replacement on these brewers nearly every time. We will tell you honestly on the rare occasion a unit is not worth it.

What NKT Single parts do you carry on the truck?

The high-wear ones: sprayheads, brew and inlet valves, heating and warmer elements, thermostats, and a decanter. That covers the large majority of NKT Single calls in a single visit, with anything unusual ordered in.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
