Boiler

E03 Boiler heating timeout Critical

A boiler did not reach setpoint inside its heat-up window. On F18 multi-boiler trims the display names the boiler involved.

Likely causes

  • Scale insulating the heating element
  • Element degraded past its wattage spec
  • Sticking SSR or contactor not switching cleanly
  • Probe reading low and stalling the controller

Try this first

  1. Check when the machine was last descaled.
  2. Confirm it is on its own dedicated circuit, not sharing with other high-draw equipment.
  3. Power-cycle and try a warm start if you can.
When to call us

If the descale is current and the timeout returns at every cold start, the element or its switching device needs testing.

E11 Steam boiler overpressure Critical

Steam pressure went past the safety threshold, or the sensor is reporting impossible values, and the safety has cut heating.

Likely causes

  • Failed pressurestat or pressure transducer
  • Sticking SSR or contactor leaving the element energized
  • Seized vacuum breaker
  • Safety valve already vented and needing replacement

Try this first

  1. Kill power at the main switch.
  2. Do not reset and try again; the safety tripped for a reason.
  3. Note any water pooling around the safety valve.
When to call us

This is safety-critical. Call us before powering back on. A safety valve that has vented needs replacing.

E15 Group temperature deviation alarm Warning

A brew boiler temperature drifted from setpoint by more than the alarm threshold during a shot. Aggressive back-to-back pulling that outruns recovery is a common trigger.

Likely causes

  • Operator-induced, busy bar period exceeding the boiler's recovery time
  • Element degraded and no longer hitting wattage
  • PID parameters out of tune after a firmware update
  • Scale insulating the element

Try this first

  1. Note whether the alarm lines up with a rush period.
  2. Check the descale interval.
  3. Do not raise the PID setpoint to mask it.
When to call us

If recovery really is the bottleneck on a busy bar, this is the platform's limit. Otherwise it is an element or PID issue and needs a tech.

Brew group

E06 Pre-infusion solenoid fault Warning

On the pre-infusion trims (Opera 2.0, F18 SB, Café Racer) the pre-infusion solenoid is not actuating in sequence: either no click, or a click with no flow behind it.

Likely causes

  • Failed solenoid coil (open)
  • Blown solenoid driver on the controller
  • Scale lodged in the valve seat
  • Per-group failure on independently-controlled platforms

Try this first

  1. Trigger a shot and listen for the pre-infusion phase to start. Silence is diagnostic.
  2. Do not disable pre-infusion to 'fix' it; that only hides the fault.
When to call us

Testing the coil and driver is service-call work, and the other groups keep working, which can mask the diagnosis.

E08 Brew group lockout Warning

The controller commanded a brew on a group but rarely saw the expected pump-on, flow, or end-of-dose sequence.

Likely causes

  • Failed group solenoid coil
  • Blown solenoid driver
  • Pump starvation upstream
  • Silent flow meter (cross-references E05)

Try this first

  1. Press the dose and listen for the solenoid click.
  2. If it clicks but no water flows, the problem is downstream of the coil.
  3. If it is silent, suspect the coil or its driver.
When to call us

On the Opera the per-group brew solenoid sits behind the paddle assembly, so allow time for service disassembly.

Pump

E10 Brew pressure out of band Warning

On platforms that monitor brew pressure (Opera 2.0, F18 SB) the steady-state pressure during the shot has fallen outside the configured band.

Likely causes

  • Rotary pump wear
  • Expansion valve drift (loose)
  • Clogged inlet screen
  • Partial blockage in the group circuit

Try this first

  1. Watch the panel gauge during a shot. If it matches the fault, the hydraulic side is genuinely off.
  2. Do not touch the expansion valve without a gauge; it is a quarter-turn part.
When to call us

Expansion-valve calibration and pump testing is service-call work.

Electronics

E05 Flow meter not pulsing Warning

The volumetric flow meter on a group is not sending pulses during a shot, or the count is outside the expected band. Doses will overshoot or stop early.

Likely causes

  • Mineral buildup on the impeller
  • Failed Hall sensor in the meter
  • Disconnected lead at the meter or controller
  • Multiple meters failing simultaneously suggests water quality

Try this first

  1. Switch the affected group to manual if your operator is comfortable with it.
  2. Note which group is throwing the code.
  3. Do not reprogram the doses; the meter is the problem, not the programming.
When to call us

A meter swap is a planned service-call job.

E07 Opera paddle encoder fault Warning

On the Opera 2.0 the paddle drives a needle valve through an encoder that feeds the PID. This code says the encoder signal is out of range or jumping erratically.

Likely causes

  • Worn encoder after years of paddle use
  • Moisture intrusion into the encoder housing
  • Sticking needle valve giving the encoder false position data
  • Damaged encoder wiring

Try this first

  1. Do not keep working the paddle hard to try to clear it.
  2. Note whether the paddle feels mechanically smooth; sticking is part of the diagnosis.
When to call us

Replacing the encoder means careful disassembly of the Opera paddle assembly. Service-call only.

E12 Inter-board communication fault Critical

The main controller has lost communication with a satellite board, whether the display, a group board, or an expansion board.

Likely causes

  • Unseated ribbon or RJ cable between boards
  • Damaged inter-board cable (heat or vibration)
  • Water damage on a satellite board
  • Failed satellite board

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle from the main switch.
  2. Note what is still responsive, the touchscreen, dose buttons, or gauges, since that helps the tech.
  3. Do not open the machine to reseat cables yourself.
When to call us

Reseat-and-test is the first thing a tech tries, and it often clears the fault without parts. Call us.

Water

E04 Level probe / autofill timeout Critical

Autofill ran past its safety window without the level probe reading full, or the probe reading rarely changed during the fill.

Likely causes

  • Scaled level probe (most common)
  • Failed inlet solenoid
  • Closed inlet shutoff or low feed pressure
  • Slow internal leak draining the boiler during fill

Try this first

  1. Confirm the under-counter inlet shutoff is fully open.
  2. Check for water under the machine; a hidden leak is rare but serious.
  3. Do not keep power-cycling. If the pump runs without filling, stop and call.
When to call us

The level probe needs pulling and inspecting, and the inlet solenoid testing. That is a tech visit.

Sensors

E01 Brew boiler NTC probe out of range Critical

On the multi-boiler Sanremo platforms (Opera 2.0, F18, F18 SB, and multi-boiler Café Racer trims) each brew group runs its own boiler and NTC probe. This code says one of those probes is reading out of range. That group locks out while the others keep pouring.

Likely causes

  • Failed NTC probe (open or shorted)
  • Broken lead near the boiler flange
  • Moisture in the connector after a brew-circuit leak
  • Probe drifted out of tolerance with age

Try this first

  1. Note which group is faulted; the display tells you.
  2. Keep the working groups running while you wait for service.
  3. Power-cycle once to check the fault is not transient. If it returns straight away, the probe needs replacing.
When to call us

The probe has to be ohmed at the controller, replaced, and the PID offset re-baselined against a Scace device. That is service-call work.

E02 Steam boiler sensor / pressure fault Critical

The steam-boiler temperature or pressure sensor is reading out of range. Depending on the platform, steam-side drinks may lock out while espresso keeps pulling.

Likely causes

  • Failed steam-side NTC or pressure sensor
  • Scale on the pressure-sensor port
  • Wiring break to the controller
  • Pressurestat input mismatch with the temperature input

Try this first

  1. Check whether espresso shots still pull; they usually do.
  2. If the panel pressure gauge looks wrong, do not assume the sensor is lying; it may be right.
  3. Power-cycle once.
When to call us

Boiler pressure needs verifying against a reference gauge before any sensor swap. Call us.

Other

Service Maintenance interval reached Info

A maintenance counter has hit its threshold, whether shots, water volume, or descale hours. This is a reminder, not an active fault.

Likely causes

  • Programmed shot threshold
  • Descale timer elapsed
  • Water filter counter elapsed

  2. Confirm the hardness setting matches the installed filter.
  3. Do not reset it without doing the work it is asking for.

What does Sanremo error code E01 mean?

Can I clear or reset a Sanremo error code myself?

Sometimes. Many Sanremo codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.

Why does the same Sanremo error keep coming back?

A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.
