About these codes. Compiled from Thermoplan product documentation research and our own GTA service logs. Updated July 2026

Brew unit

5 codes
TX0113 Piston error Critical

The brewing piston didn't reach the position the controller expected. Either it's mechanically jammed or the position sensor has stopped reporting honestly.

Likely causes

  • Grind buildup on the piston shaft
  • Worn piston seal causing drag
  • Failed position sensor
  • Mechanical wear in the brewer

Try this first

  1. Power off, wait 30 seconds, power back on.
  2. Open the front door and inspect for visible obstructions.
  3. Run a rinse cycle once the machine restarts.
When to call us

If TX0113 comes back after a restart, the brewer needs service, not more restarts. Book us in and mention the code.

TX0139 Open POD / brew chamber open Warning

The brewing chamber (the POD) isn't registering as closed, so brewing is blocked.

Likely causes

  • Chamber didn't close on last cycle
  • Mechanical wear preventing close
  • Position sensor failure

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle to trigger recalibration.
  2. Open and close the service door to reset.
  3. Confirm no debris in the brew area.
When to call us

If TX0139 survives a recalibration power-cycle, the brewer's mechanics or position sensor need service.

TX0160 Grounds drawer full Warning

The puck counter says the grounds drawer has hit capacity. The machine blocks drinks until it's emptied and the counter resets.

Likely causes

  • Drawer actually full
  • Counter not reset on last empty
  • Drawer not opened long enough for sensor

Try this first

  1. Remove, empty, rinse, and reinsert the drawer.
  2. Keep the drawer out for at least 5 seconds.
  3. Confirm the counter resets.
When to call us

Only if the counter refuses to reset after a proper empty-and-reinsert. That points at the detection switch.

TX0161 Grounds drawer missing Warning

The machine can't detect the grounds drawer, so brewing is blocked.

Likely causes

  • Drawer not pushed in
  • Detection switch failed

Try this first

  1. Push the drawer firmly back into position.
  2. Wait for sensor detection.
  3. Power-cycle if it doesn't clear.
When to call us

If the message stays with the drawer firmly seated, the detection switch has likely failed. It's a quick swap.

TX0210 Hydraulic module error Critical

A fault in the hydraulic module, the pump-and-valve assembly on the brewing side. Brewing is blocked.

Likely causes

  • Hydraulic module valve stuck
  • Pump pressure out of spec
  • Failed pressure sensor
  • Internal leak

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle once.
  2. Leave the hydraulic compartment closed.
  3. Write down the exact code.
When to call us

Hydraulic module work is strictly technician territory; there's pressurized water and tight tolerances in there. Call us.

Boiler

4 codes
TX0116 Overtime error Critical

A timed operation overran its window, usually a heating cycle that rarely reached its setpoint. The controller stops rather than keep pushing a circuit that isn't responding.

Likely causes

  • Heavily scaled boiler
  • Degraded heating element
  • Failed temperature sensor
  • Low voltage at the outlet

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle and let the machine attempt a full warm-up.
  2. Confirm descale isn't overdue.
  3. Check outlet voltage is stable.
When to call us

If descaling is current and TX0116 persists, the element or temperature sensor needs a technician.

TX0141 Steam boiler temperature fault Critical

The steam boiler is reporting a temperature outside its operating window, so all steam functions are blocked.

Likely causes

  • Failed NTC sensor
  • Scale in the steam boiler
  • Element degradation
  • Loose sensor connector

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle.
  2. Check whether coffee drinks still work; that isolates the fault to the steam side.
  3. Check the descale status.
When to call us

Steam boiler sensors and elements are technician-only territory. Call us rather than opening anything.

TX0142 Coffee boiler temperature fault Critical

The coffee boiler's temperature is out of range, and brewing is blocked until it recovers.

Likely causes

  • Failed NTC sensor
  • Scale on element
  • Failed Klixon safety
  • Loose connector

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle.
  2. Check whether steam still works; that isolates the fault to the coffee side.
  3. Run a descale if one is overdue.
When to call us

If a power cycle and a current descale don't clear it, the element, sensor, or Klixon safety needs replacing. That's our job.

TX0220 Pressure sensor fault Critical

A pressure sensor is reading out of range. Depending on configuration that could be steam boiler, brew, or pump pressure.

Likely causes

  • Failed pressure sensor
  • Sensor port blocked by scale
  • Cable disconnected

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle.
  2. Don't access pressurized components.
  3. Note any companion codes.
When to call us

Pressure sensor faults need a technician with gauges. Mention any companion codes when you call.

Milk system

2 codes
TX0150 Milk pump fault Critical

The milk pump's current draw or flow is out of spec. It may be jammed with dried milk, worn, or failed outright.

Likely causes

  • Dried milk residue in pump or downstream lines
  • Worn pump impeller
  • Failed pump motor

Try this first

  1. Run the milk cleaning cycle.
  2. Confirm milk container is full and line is connected.
  3. Inspect for visible blockage.
When to call us

If a milk clean and a full, connected container don't bring it back, the pump needs attention. On hard-running machines a milk pump swap is routine work for us.

TX0151 Milk temperature fault Warning

The milk temperature reading is outside the food-safe or operating range. The machine flags it before drink quality and safety drift.

Likely causes

  • Cooler door not sealing
  • Cooler thermostat issue
  • Failed milk temperature sensor
  • Warm milk recently added

Try this first

  1. Confirm cooler door is sealing.
  2. Check cooler temperature with an external thermometer.
  3. Allow time for fresh milk to chill.
When to call us

If the cooler checks out and fresh milk has had time to chill, the sensor or cooler needs service. Mention this code when booking so the right cooler parts are on the truck.

Grinder

3 codes
TX0114 Right bean hopper empty Warning

The right-hand hopper sensor reports no beans, so drinks that use the right bean type are blocked.

Likely causes

  • Hopper actually empty
  • Beans bridging above the throat
  • Empty sensor fouled or failed

Try this first

  1. Refill the right hopper with fresh beans.
  2. Tap the hopper to dislodge bridging.
  3. Confirm the lid seals properly.
When to call us

Call only if the sensor keeps reporting empty with a visibly full hopper. That's a sensor fault, and it's a quick fix.

TX0180 Bean hopper left empty Warning

The left-hand hopper reports empty, blocking drinks that draw from the left bean type.

Likely causes

  • Hopper actually empty
  • Beans bridging
  • Empty sensor failure

Try this first

  1. Refill the left hopper.
  2. Tap to settle beans.
  3. Run a grinder cycle to test.
When to call us

Same rule as the right side: call only if a full hopper still reads empty.

TX0185 Grinder blocked Critical

The grinder motor is drawing excess current or has stalled, almost typically because something harder than coffee is sitting in the burrs.

Likely causes

  • Stone or foreign object in the burrs
  • Severely worn burrs binding
  • Failed motor

Try this first

  1. Power off immediately. Do not retry.
  2. With the machine off and unplugged, inspect the grinder throat if accessible.
  3. Note which grinder triggered the fault.
When to call us

Straight away, before anyone retries it. Repeated start attempts against a jammed burr set will burn out the motor and turn a cheap fix into an expensive one.

Electronics

5 codes
TX0118 Interface error Critical

An internal communication fault between the control board and one of its subsystems. Whatever module dropped off the bus is unreachable until the link is restored.

Likely causes

  • Loose internal cable
  • Failed subsystem controller
  • Firmware mismatch after partial update

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle once.
  2. Note which functions still work and which don't.
  3. Leave the side panels closed.
When to call us

Interface faults are technician work. Call us with your notes on what still functions; it shortens the diagnosis.

TX0119 System error Critical

A generic system fault. What it actually means depends on the firmware version and whatever codes appear alongside it.

Likely causes

  • Transient electrical glitch
  • Sensor on diagnostic bus reporting bad data
  • Firmware fault

Try this first

  1. Power off for 60 seconds.
  2. Power back on and watch for a clean startup.
  3. Note any other codes shown.
When to call us

If TX0119 survives a power cycle it needs diagnostic tools. Call us and read out every code on the screen, not just this one.

TX0240 Communication error (CAN bus) Critical

The internal CAN bus link between the main controller and a subsystem has dropped.

Likely causes

  • Loose CAN cable
  • Failed subsystem controller
  • Firmware mismatch

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle.
  2. Note which functions still work.
  3. Don't change CAN settings.
When to call us

CAN faults need diagnostic tools to trace. Tell us which functions still respond; that narrows down the failed node before we arrive.

TX0250 Software update required Warning

The machine has spotted a software inconsistency or an out-of-date version, often after a component swap or a partial update.

Likely causes

  • Partial update
  • Component swap with mismatched software

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle once.
  2. Don't attempt the update without service tools.
  3. Document the firmware version if accessible.
When to call us

Updates go through the Thermoplan service interface, not a USB stick. Call us and we'll bring the right tooling.

TX0260 Touchscreen fault Critical

The touchscreen is unresponsive or registering bad input.

Likely causes

  • Loose ribbon cable
  • Failed touch digitizer
  • Display module failure

Try this first

  1. Power-cycle.
  2. Leave the head assembly closed.
  3. Note whether the screen displays anything at all.
When to call us

Display work is technician-only. Whether the screen is dark or just deaf changes the part we bring, so mention which when you call.

Water

4 codes
TX0115 Water flow error Critical

The machine isn't seeing water flow, or the flow meter is sending too few pulses. Coffee dispensing stops until flow comes back.

Likely causes

  • Water supply tap closed
  • Flow meter defective or scaled
  • Pump not priming
  • Internal blockage

Try this first

  1. Open the water connection if it was closed.
  2. Empty the grounds drawer and reinsert.
  3. Run a rinse cycle to clear air.
When to call us

If the supply is confirmed open and TX0115 returns, the flow meter or pump needs servicing. Call us.

TX0117 Change water filter Warning

The water filter cartridge has reached its rated capacity. The machine is asking for a fresh one before scale starts getting through.

Likely causes

  • Filter at end of rated life
  • Higher cup volume than expected

Try this first

  1. Replace the cartridge with the spec-correct filter.
  2. Reset the filter counter through the service menu.
  3. Update hardness setting if your water has changed.
When to call us

Only if the counter won't reset after a correct cartridge swap. That usually means the reset step was missed or a sensor needs attention.

TX0125 Water flow error (advanced) Critical

No water flow detected, or the flow meter has failed. This is the deeper version of TX0115, raised when the fault sits further into the hydraulic side.

Likely causes

  • Water connection closed
  • Pump worn or airlocked
  • Flow meter failed
  • Grounds drawer not seated correctly

Try this first

  1. Open the water connection.
  2. Empty the grounds drawer and reinsert firmly.
  3. Run a rinse cycle to bleed air.
When to call us

If the standard checks don't clear it, the flow meter or pump needs servicing. Book a visit.

TX0190 Water tank empty Warning

The machine sees no water in the tank or from the supply, so dispensing stops.

Likely causes

  • Tank actually empty
  • Mains supply closed
  • Float stuck
  • Sensor failure

Try this first

  1. Refill the tank or open the mains.
  2. Tap to free any stuck float.
  3. Confirm proper tank seating.
When to call us

Only if the message persists with confirmed water. A stuck float or a failed sensor is the usual culprit then.

Cleaning

4 codes
TX0131 Cleaning interrupted Warning

A cleaning cycle started but rarely finished. The machine may block coffee until a full cycle runs through.

Likely causes

  • Door opened during cycle
  • Power lost mid-cycle
  • Cleaning solution exhausted
  • Sensor misread during cycle

Try this first

  1. Restart the cleaning cycle from the menu.
  2. Use fresh, spec-correct Thermoplan cleaner.
  3. Don't open doors or pull drawers during the cycle.
When to call us

Only if a fresh, uninterrupted restart still won't run to completion. At that point a sensor or the cleaning circuit needs attention.

TX0170 Descaling required Warning

The descale interval has arrived. Run the program promptly; scale damage compounds the longer it waits.

Likely causes

  • Descale interval timer reached
  • Higher cup volume than expected
  • Hardness setting too low for actual water

Try this first

  1. Run the descale cycle with Thermoplan descaler.
  2. Reset the descale counter after.
  3. Update hardness setting if needed.
When to call us

Only if the cycle won't complete or the counter won't reset afterwards. Both are quick for us to sort.

TX0171 Cleaning required Warning

The daily cleaning cycle is due, and the machine may restrict dispensing until it runs.

Likely causes

  • Daily clean interval reached
  • Last clean was skipped

Try this first

  1. Run the daily cleaning cycle.
  2. Use fresh, spec-correct cleaner.
  3. Confirm the counter resets at completion.
When to call us

Only if the cycle refuses to run at all. That's usually a sensor or dosing fault in the cleaning circuit.

TX0200 Cleaning solution empty Warning

The milk-cleaning solution is exhausted, so milk cleaning cycles can't complete until it's replenished.

Likely causes

  • Bottle empty
  • Pickup tube not reaching solution
  • Level sensor failure

Try this first

  1. Insert a fresh cleaner bottle.
  2. Confirm the pickup tube is fully seated.
  3. Reset the level counter.
When to call us

Only if a fresh bottle with the pickup tube seated still reads empty. That's the level sensor.

Other

4 codes
TX0136 Service required (call service) Critical

The machine has decided a technician is needed. The trigger varies, but this is Thermoplan's hard stop: the firmware won't let the condition be worked around.

Likely causes

  • Accumulated multiple lower-severity faults
  • Scheduled service threshold reached
  • Critical sensor or actuator failure

Try this first

  1. Write down the code exactly as shown.
  2. Don't attempt repeated workarounds.
  3. Capture any other on-screen messages.
When to call us

Now. This code exists to put a technician in front of the machine, and continuing to run it can turn a contained fault into a bigger one.

TX0137 Please ask for assistance Warning

An operator-facing prompt that the machine needs help, usually paired with a deeper fault code behind it.

Likely causes

  • Compound fault condition
  • Sequence the operator can't recover without guidance

Try this first

  1. Note any accompanying codes.
  2. Stop making drinks until it's resolved.
  3. Photograph the screen if you can.
When to call us

Call with the screen contents in front of you. The companion code tells us what to load on the truck.

TX0195 Door open Info

The service door reads open, and brewing is blocked for safety until it latches.

Likely causes

  • Door open after grounds empty or service
  • Failed door magnetic switch
  • Bent catch

Try this first

  1. Close the service door firmly until it latches.
  2. Confirm the door seal is intact.
  3. If clearly closed, suspect the switch.
When to call us

If the door is clearly closed and the message stays, the magnetic switch has failed. It's a fast swap.

TX0270 Drip tray full Info

The drip tray's level sensor reports full. Empty it and the machine carries on.

Likely causes

  • Tray actually full
  • Tray not seated correctly
  • Level sensor fouled

Try this first

  1. Empty, rinse, and reinsert the tray.
  2. Wipe the sensor area.
  3. Wait for empty detection.
When to call us

Only if the sensor keeps insisting a freshly emptied tray is full.

FAQ

Thermoplan error codes, frequently asked.

9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends.

Updated July 2026

What does Thermoplan error code TX0113 mean?

Every documented Thermoplan fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.

Can I clear or reset a Thermoplan error code myself?

Sometimes. Many Thermoplan codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.

Why does the same Thermoplan error keep coming back?

A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.

My Thermoplan code isn't listed. Why?

Thermoplan updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.

How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?

Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response when scheduling allows. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day in most cases.

Do I need to be authorized by Thermoplan to reset an error code?

No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Thermoplan, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.

Is it worth fixing an old Thermoplan machine that keeps throwing codes?

Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.

Will independent service void my Thermoplan warranty?

If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Thermoplan's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.

How many Thermoplan codes are documented on this page?

31 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
