Aluminum-bodied Italian classic

Bezzera B2013 AL repair that shows up today. GTA-wide.

Your B2013 AL has a feel the newer machines do not, and the lever springs, piston seals, and aluminum body all want a tech who knows the build. We repair these heat-exchanger frames in their automatic and lever forms: group and gasket service, pressurestat resets, gicleur clears, level-probe descales, and board-level work on the automatic variants. Tell us the symptom and the right parts come along.

Bezzera · Heritage Italian commercial espresso, lever / automatic line

The B2013 AL.

The B2013 AL is Bezzera's aluminum-bodied professional line, offered in automatic and traditional lever-style builds. It runs a heat-exchanger boiler rated for up to 300 shots a day, with manual steam wands and, on the lever version, spring-driven groups and piston seals that give the extraction its mechanical feel. The aluminum cabinet oxidizes gently over the years, which is cosmetic; what the machine actually asks for over time is gaskets, a pressurestat, lever springs, and the odd gicleur, all parts we keep against the platform.

B2013 AL faults we diagnose

Common B2013 AL faults we put right.

These are the faults we see most on the B2013 AL, lever and automatic builds alike, with the cause and the fix for each.

Brew system & pressure 5 issues
!

Group gasket leak

The group gasket gives out with use and weeps at the portafilter. We back-flush, pull the dispersion screen, fit a new gasket, grease the portafilter ears, and confirm a clean dry seal.

!

Dispersion screen scaled

Scale on the dispersion screen disrupts even flow, and on local water it is roughly an annual job. We pull the screen, soak it in cafiza, inspect it, and replace it if it has dimpled.

!

Pressurestat drift

After five years or so the mechanical pressurestat drifts off its setpoints. We test the cut-in and cut-out, reset the setpoint, and replace the unit if the differential has collapsed.

!

Brew pressure low

Weak brew pressure is pump wear or a drifted OPV. We gauge it at the portafilter, set the OPV back to 9 bar, and replace the pump head if it reads below spec.

!

Gicleur clogged on one group

When a single group goes weak, scale and fines have clogged its gicleur. We pull it, clear it ultrasonically, check the expansion valve, and replace the gicleur if the orifice has eroded.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

HX brew temperature drifting

Brew temperature drifts when boiler pressure is unsettled, since the exchanger feeds off it. We measure brew water at the group, check boiler pressure on the gauge, and adjust the pressurestat to bring them back together.

!

Boiler scaling out

On hard local water the boiler needs a descale about once a year or warm-up and steam start to fade. We descale fully, check element resistance, and replace the element if it draws low.

!

Level probe scaling

Scale on the level probe stops it conducting and the machine cries low-water with a full boiler. We pull it, descale or replace it, and confirm autofill on refill.

!

Leak under the machine

A puddle underneath usually starts at the boiler manifold, a brass elbow, or the autofill solenoid. We pressure-test, dye-trace it to the source, and re-flare or replace the fitting.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Autofill cycling continuously

Autofill that rarely stops cycling is a contaminated probe or a sticking solenoid. We clean the probe and check the solenoid action, replacing it if it hangs.

!

Control electronics fault on automatic variants

On the automatic variants a control fault gets diagnosed at the board level. We isolate the specific failure, repair where we can, and source replacement parts through the Italian distribution channel.

!

Shot quality drift

Shot quality usually drifts from a mix of dispersion screen wear, grind, brew temperature, gicleur condition, and OPV setting. We work through each and recalibrate against reference shots.

!

Aluminum cabinetry oxidization or corrosion

The aluminum body oxidizes on the surface over decades, which is normal. We clean it back and protect it with an aluminum-safe polish, and where corrosion has gone deeper we assess it for structural impact.

!

Discontinued parts on legacy B2013

Older B2013 frames lose factory parts support, but we keep them running. Parts come through the Italian distribution channel, refurbisher networks, and aftermarket equivalents we have validated against the platform.

!

Steam valve worn or dripping

A dripping steam valve is cartridge and tip-seal wear. We rebuild it with fresh internals and descale the tip so it shuts off dry.

FAQ

Bezzera B2013 AL, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

Can you rebuild the lever group on a B2013 AL?

Yes, lever rebuilds are platform-knowledge work and we do them regularly. When the lever goes stiff or the shot drops off, the spring has usually lost tension and the piston seals have worn. We measure the spring force, replace it if it is below spec, rebuild the piston with fresh seals, lubricate with food-safe grease, and verify a smooth full-throw action.

Is the aluminum body on my B2013 AL a problem as it ages?

Surface oxidization on the aluminum is normal over decades and is purely cosmetic. We clean it back and protect it with an aluminum-safe polish. Only where corrosion has gone deeper do we assess it for any structural impact, which is rare on these frames.

What's the shot capacity of a B2013 AL?

It is built for up to around 300 shots a day on its single heat-exchanger boiler, which suits a steady neighbourhood cafe or restaurant rather than a high-street machine pulling all day. Keep the scale down and it holds that figure for years.

My B2013 AL automatic has stopped dosing correctly. Can you fix the electronics?

Yes. On the automatic variants we diagnose at the board level, isolate the specific fault, and repair it where we can. Parts that need replacing come through the Italian distribution channel, and the dose programming gets verified before we leave.

The pressurestat on my B2013 AL keeps drifting. Replace or adjust?

After about five years a mechanical pressurestat usually needs more than an adjustment. We test the cut-in and cut-out against the gauge and reset the setpoint first; if the differential has collapsed we fit a Sirai or CEME replacement matched to the original setpoint.

Why is my B2013 AL pulling uneven shots?

Shot quality on these drifts from a mix of dispersion screen wear, grind, brew temperature, gicleur condition, and OPV setting, and on a lever build, spring tension and piston seal too. We work through each in order and recalibrate against reference shots rather than guessing.

Can you still get parts for an older B2013?

Usually, yes. We source through the Italian distribution channel for current items, refurbisher networks for the older bits, and aftermarket equivalents we have validated against the platform. We will tell you up front if a part is genuinely unobtainable.

My B2013 AL is throwing a low-water alarm with a full boiler. Why?

The level probe has scaled over and stopped conducting, so the machine reads the boiler as empty. We pull the probe, descale or replace it, and confirm the autofill responds on refill. It is a routine fix and a sign the water could use softening.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
