Error code reference

Bezzera error codes, what they mean and how to fix them.

Bezzera commercial machines are still read mostly through mechanical symptoms: how the boiler gauge sits, how the steam wand feels, where the brew pressure lands, a change in flow at the group. The current PID and brewing-profile models (Arcadia DE PID, Victoria, the Profile builds, Matrix DE and MN) layer sensor, flow-meter, and controller faults on top of that. Each entry below explains what the symptom means, what's safe to try yourself, and when it's time to call us.

About these codes. Compiled from Bezzera product documentation and our own GTA service logs across the B2016, Arcadia, Victoria, Matrix, and legacy Galatea, B6000, and B4000 frames. Updated August 2026

Boiler

2 codes
HX temp drift Heat exchanger temperature drift (B2016, B2013 AL, Arcadia DE PID, Victoria) Warning

An HX machine takes its brew temperature from boiler pressure, so when the pressure is off the water arriving at the group drifts with it. The tell shows up in the cup, through uneven or off-temperature shots, before the pressurestat itself looks suspect.

Likely causes

  • Boiler pressure sitting off its setpoint
  • Pressurestat drifting and dragging the HX circuit with it
  • No consistent cooling-flush routine at the bar

Try this first

  1. Check where the boiler gauge sits against its usual mark.
  2. Run a short cooling flush before each shot and see if the cup evens out.
  3. Note whether the drift tracks busy versus quiet periods.
When to call us

Curing the drift means measuring brew water at the group with a calibrated probe, checking boiler pressure on the gauge, and adjusting the pressurestat to bring the two back in line. We also dial a flush routine in with the operator so the group lands the same temperature shot to shot. Call us.

Scaled boiler Slow heat-up and weak steam Warning

Hard local water scales a Bezzera HX boiler faster than the manual allows for, and the machine tells you in long warm-up times, soft steam, and pressurestat cycling that rarely quite settles.

Likely causes

  • Scale insulating the heating element and boiler walls
  • Hard GTA water outpacing the descale schedule
  • Element drawing low under years of deposit

Try this first

  1. Time the morning warm-up against what the machine used to need.
  2. Check the softener or filter is connected and in date.
  3. Ease off back-to-back steaming and see whether pressure recovers.
When to call us

A scaled-out boiler needs a full descale, the heat-up timed against spec, and the heating element inspected; we replace it if it still draws low once the scale is gone. The level probe and sight glass are cleaned while the boiler is open. Call us.

Pressure

1 code
Pressurestat drift Boiler pressure runs high or cycles erratically Warning

A mechanical Sirai or CEME pressurestat that has drifted with age and now cuts in and out at the wrong setpoints. You catch it on the gauge before any controller flags it: boiler pressure creeps past 1.3 bar or swings wide of where it should sit.

Likely causes

  • Aged pressurestat contacts drifting off their setpoints
  • Collapsed cut-in/cut-out differential short-cycling the element
  • Scale restricting the pressurestat's sensing port

Try this first

  1. Watch the boiler gauge through a few heating cycles and note where it cuts in and out.
  2. Power the machine off, wait 30 seconds, and power back on to see if the cycling settles.
  3. If pressure keeps climbing past 1.4 bar, switch the machine off and leave it off.
When to call us

A pressurestat that cycles wide or has lost its differential needs testing against the boiler gauge, a setpoint reset, and usually replacement. The Sirai and CEME units that fit most Bezzera generations are both stocked on the truck. Call us.

Pump

2 codes
Low brew pressure Brew pressure low or drifting across groups Warning

Either a worn rotary pump or a drifted OPV. The pour goes weak, the ramp to pressure slows, or the gauge will not reach 9 bar under load.

Likely causes

  • Rotary pump vanes wearing below spec
  • OPV drifted off its 9 bar setting
  • Motor coupling wear on B2016 and Arcadia frames
  • Inlet restriction upstream of the pump

Try this first

  1. Watch the pump gauge during a shot and note where it settles.
  2. Confirm the water supply and any inlet filter aren't restricting flow.
  3. Compare the pour across groups to see whether all are affected.
When to call us

We put a portafilter gauge on the group, set the OPV back to 9 bar, and confirm pump output under load. A pump head reading below spec is a straightforward swap, and the motor coupling gets a look on B2016 and Arcadia frames while the panels are off. Call us.

Clogged gicleur Weak pour on one group Warning

The gicleur, the brass restrictor feeding each group, has partly clogged with scale and coffee fines. One group goes weak while the rest pour normally, which points downstream of the pump rather than at the pump itself.

Likely causes

  • Scale and coffee fines part-blocking the gicleur orifice
  • Eroded orifice altering the flow rate
  • Expansion valve fouling behind the gicleur

Try this first

  1. Pull the same coffee on two groups to confirm only one runs weak.
  2. Back-flush the affected group with water, then with detergent.
  3. Time the shot against your recipe to measure how far off it is.
When to call us

If one group still pours weak after a back-flush, the gicleur needs pulling and an ultrasonic clean, with the expansion valve behind it checked and the gicleur replaced if the orifice has eroded. Flow rate is verified shot to shot before sign-off. Call us.

Group head

1 code
Group gasket leak Coffee weeping around the portafilter during extraction Warning

The group gasket has compressed past its service life, so coffee weeps down the diffuser or steam escapes around the portafilter under pressure. Standard wear on B2016, Galatea, Arcadia, and Matrix groups.

Likely causes

  • Group gasket hardened and compressed with age
  • Worn dispersion screen and screw
  • Portafilter ears wearing into the group seat

Try this first

  1. Wipe the group seat clean of grounds and reseat the portafilter firmly.
  2. Back-flush the group and try the shot again.
  3. Test with a second portafilter to rule out a worn basket rim.
When to call us

A gasket that keeps weeping is finished: we back-flush the group, pull the dispersion screen and screw, fit the Bezzera-spec gasket, grease the portafilter ears, and confirm a dry seal across several test shots. Call us.

Steam

1 code
Steam valve wear Steam wand dripping or steam valve sticking Warning

A worn steam valve cartridge and scale through the steam circuit. The wand drips between uses, or the valve catches partway through its throw.

Likely causes

  • Steam valve cartridge worn past sealing
  • Scale through the steam circuit and tip
  • Eroded valve seat on older Galatea and B6000 frames

Try this first

  1. Open the valve fully and snap it closed once to clear the seat.
  2. Soak the steam tip and clear its holes.
  3. Purge the wand before and after every pitcher.
When to call us

A dripping or catching valve gets rebuilt with a fresh cartridge kit, and the steam path and tip descaled, with the on-off action checked to run clean. On older Galatea and B6000 frames where the seat has eroded, the whole valve body sometimes has to go. Call us.

Water

3 codes
Low-water lamp Low water warning with a full boiler Warning

The mechanical level probe in the HX boiler has scaled over and stopped conducting, so the machine reads empty and lights the low-water lamp with the boiler full. It is one of the most routine faults on Bezzera frames fed unsoftened municipal water.

Likely causes

  • Scale coating the level probe until it stops conducting
  • Autofill circuit not responding to the probe signal
  • Unsoftened municipal feed accelerating scale buildup

Try this first

  1. Check the sight glass and confirm the boiler really is full.
  2. Confirm the water supply valve is open and any filter isn't exhausted.
  3. Power off for 30 seconds and back on so the level circuit re-reads.
When to call us

If the lamp stays on with a full boiler, the probe needs pulling and descaling or replacement, with the autofill circuit confirmed on the next refill. The sight glass is cleaned in the same pass, and a softener is worth fitting wherever the supply runs unfiltered. Call us.

Hidden leak Water leak from under the machine, source not obvious Critical

On a Bezzera HX frame the usual sources are the boiler manifold, a brass elbow weakened by scale, or the autofill solenoid seat. The machine gives no warning here; the puddle does.

Likely causes

  • Boiler manifold seeping under pressure
  • Brass elbow weakened by scale
  • Autofill solenoid seat passing water

Try this first

  1. Switch the machine off and close the water supply valve.
  2. Dry the counter and set something under the drip point.
  3. Note whether the puddle grows at idle or only during use.
When to call us

A hidden leak needs the boiler pressure-tested, the chassis dried right out, and a dye trace run to find where the water is actually coming from. Fittings are re-flared or replaced rather than just nipped up. Call us before the water finds the electronics.

Brew solenoid stuck No flow at the group, or continuous flow at idle Critical

The three-way brew solenoid on a B2016, Arcadia, or Matrix has failed in one direction. Either no water reaches the group when you press brew, or water keeps running after the cycle should have ended.

Likely causes

  • Three-way solenoid cartridge stuck open or closed
  • Debris or scale holding the valve off its seat
  • Solenoid coil failing under heat

Try this first

  1. Power off for 30 seconds and retry the group.
  2. Back-flush the group to clear debris from the valve.
  3. If water keeps running at idle, switch the machine off and close the supply.
When to call us

A stuck three-way solenoid gets its coil tested and the valve body pulled, then rebuilt or replaced with fresh gaskets before reseating. The three-way exhaust is checked before sign-off so the puck releases pressure properly. Call us.

Electronics

1 code
PID drift PID or profile temperature drift (Arcadia DE PID, Brewing Profile, Victoria, Matrix DE/MN) Warning

On the electronic Bezzera platforms the PID or brewing-profile controller is no longer holding the temperature or profile you set. On Arcadia, Victoria, and the Profile builds this is not a sign of a dual-boiler commercial machine; it is usually sensor drift, scale, a flow meter dropping pulses, or a controller offset.

Likely causes

  • NTC sensor drifting with age
  • Scale insulating the sensor or heating element
  • Flow meter dropping pulses into the profile
  • Controller offset shifted from its calibration

Try this first

  1. Power the machine off for 30 seconds and back on.
  2. Compare the set temperature against what the display reports once fully warm.
  3. Confirm the descale schedule is current before suspecting electronics.
When to call us

We check the NTC against a reference temperature, descale the affected circuit, confirm element resistance and flow-meter readings, then recalibrate the PID or profile through the service menu. Temperature is held across a 10-shot test before we call it done. Call us.

Sensors

1 code
Dose drift Volumetric dose or profile drift (B2016 DE, Arcadia, Victoria, Matrix DE) Warning

Flow-meter pulse wheels have coated in mineral deposit and started miscounting. The controller reads the dropped pulses as dose drift, so shot volumes wander cycle to cycle.

Likely causes

  • Mineral deposit coating the flow-meter pulse wheels
  • Dropped pulses read by the controller as dose changes
  • Exhausted softener or filter upstream

Try this first

  1. Reprogram one dose and test whether it holds over ten shots.
  2. Weigh shots from each group to see which meters wander.
  3. Check the softener and filter are in date.
When to call us

Wandering doses mean the flow meters come out, the impellers get cleaned, and each dose is reprogrammed to a weighed target. A damaged meter is replaced before recalibrating, and softener and filter status get confirmed on the same visit. Call us.

FAQ

Bezzera error codes, frequently asked.

9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends. If the recurring ones are descale or water warnings, start with the right Bezzera water filter.

Updated August 2026

What does Bezzera error code Pressurestat drift mean?

Every documented Bezzera fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.

Can I clear or reset a Bezzera error code myself?

Sometimes. Many Bezzera codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.

Why does the same Bezzera error keep coming back?

A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.

My Bezzera code isn't listed. Why?

Bezzera updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.

How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?

Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day.

Do I need to be authorized by Bezzera to reset an error code?

No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Bezzera, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.

Is it worth fixing an old Bezzera machine that keeps throwing codes?

Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.

Will independent service void my Bezzera warranty?

If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Bezzera's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.

How many Bezzera codes are documented on this page?

12 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
