The Italian-Canadian workhorse

GTA-wide Bezzera B2016 repair, usually fixed on the first visit.

Your B2016 is the engine room of the cafe, and when the group starts weeping or a gicleur clogs and one bar goes weak, the morning rush feels it. We repair these heat-exchanger frames constantly: group and screen service, pressurestat resets, gicleur clears, level-probe descales, volumetric dose recalibration on the DE. Most of it is sorted in a single visit with the wear parts already on the van.

Bezzera · Heritage Italian commercial espresso, heat exchanger

The B2016.

The B2016 is Bezzera's workhorse cafe machine, a heat-exchanger platform built in two- and three-group formats. It is rated for up to 600 shots a day, with a mechanical pressurestat, a brass boiler manifold, traditional gicleur-fed groups, and twin manual steam wands, the kind of build a barista can read by feel. It anchors a huge slice of the Italian-Canadian cafe fleet because it is honest to service: the parts that wear are the parts you can predict, and a frame that gets looked after keeps pouring for decades.

B2016 faults we diagnose

What goes wrong on a B2016, and our fix.

Here are the B2016 faults that actually book a service call, with the usual cause and what a fix looks like, from the group head down to the boiler.

Brew system & pressure 5 issues
!

Group head gasket leaking around the portafilter

Under cafe volume the group gasket wears out and starts weeping around the portafilter. We back-flush, pull the dispersion screen and screw, fit a new gasket, grease the portafilter ears with food-safe lubricant, and check the seal stays dry across a run of test shots.

!

Dispersion screen scaled producing channeling

Hard local water scales the dispersion screen about once a year, and the puck starts channeling. We pull the screen, soak it in cafiza, brush the holes clear, check the screw and the underside of the group, and replace the screen if it is dimpled or corroded.

!

Pressurestat drift causing pressure to creep above 1.3 bar

Mechanical pressurestats drift with age, and boiler pressure starts creeping past 1.3 bar. We test the cut-in and cut-out against the gauge, reset the setpoint, and replace the unit when the differential has collapsed. The Sirai and CEME replacements are on the truck.

!

Brew pressure low or drifting

Low or drifting brew pressure points at a worn rotary pump or a drifted OPV. We gauge the pressure at the portafilter, set the OPV back to 9 bar, and replace the pump head if output sits below spec under load.

!

Gicleur clogged producing weak pour on one group

One group pouring weak usually means its brass gicleur has partly clogged with scale and fines. We pull the gicleur, clear it ultrasonically, check the expansion valve behind it, and replace the part if the orifice has eroded. Flow rate is verified shot to shot.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Heat exchanger temperature drifting

Brew temperature on an HX machine follows boiler pressure, so when it drifts the pressurestat or scale is usually behind it. We measure brew water at the group with a calibrated probe, read the gauge, and adjust the pressurestat where it has wandered, then dial a flush routine in with the operator so the shots stay consistent.

!

Boiler scaling out producing slow heat-up and weak steam

The B2016 boiler scales faster than the manual plans for on hard water, and warm-up slows while steam goes soft. We run a full descale, check heating element resistance, and replace the element only if it still draws low afterward. The level probe and sight glass are cleaned in the same visit.

!

Level probe scaling causing low-water alarm with full boiler

Scale builds on the level probe until it stops conducting, and the machine alarms low-water with the boiler full. We pull the probe, descale or replace it, and confirm the autofill circuit responds on refill.

!

Water leak under the machine

An unexplained leak usually traces to the boiler manifold, a scale-weakened brass elbow, or the autofill solenoid seat. We pressure-test the boiler, dry the chassis out, run a dye trace to the source, and re-flare or replace the fitting.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Volumetric dose drift on B2016 DE

On the B2016 DE the flow-meter pulse wheels coat in mineral deposit and miscount, which the controller reads as dose drift. We pull the meters, clean them ultrasonically, refit them, and reprogram each dose to a weighed target.

!

Control panel button unresponsive on DE models

After years of daily service the membrane keypad on a DE model wears out and buttons stop registering. We test each one, replace the keypad assembly, and confirm the dose programming holds afterward.

!

Autofill not stopping at full level

When autofill will not stop at the right level, it is either a contaminated probe or a sticking autofill solenoid. We clean the probe, check the solenoid actuation, and replace whichever is at fault.

!

Shot quality dropping despite clean diagnostics

When the shots fall off but the diagnostics read clean, the cause is usually one of dispersion screen wear, grind drift, a brew-temperature offset, or gicleur condition. We work through each in turn, recalibrate, and review the flush routine with the barista.

!

Older B2016 needing parts

We keep older B2016 generations running long after other shops have stopped supporting them. Parts come through the Italian distribution network, refurbisher channels, and aftermarket gicleurs and gaskets we have validated against the platform.

!

Steam wand dripping or weak

A dripping or weak wand comes down to a worn valve cartridge and scale through the steam circuit. We rebuild it with a fresh cartridge, descale the wand and tip, and confirm the on-off action runs clean.

FAQ

Bezzera B2016, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

Why is one group on my B2016 pouring weaker than the others?

That points straight at the gicleur on that group, the brass restrictor that has partly clogged with scale and coffee fines. Because only one group is affected, the trouble is downstream of the pump, not the pump. We pull the gicleur, clear it ultrasonically, check the expansion valve behind it, and replace the part if the orifice has eroded.

How many shots a day can a B2016 really handle?

It is rated to around 600 shots a day, and in two- or three-group form it holds that comfortably behind a busy bar. The heat-exchanger boiler and twin steam wands are built for back-to-back service. What limits it in practice is water: keep the scale in check and the B2016 runs at full tilt for years.

My B2016 says low water but the boiler is full. What's wrong?

The level probe has scaled over and stopped conducting, so the machine reads empty and lights the low-water lamp with a full boiler. We pull the probe, descale or replace it, and confirm the autofill circuit responds on refill. On hard water it is one of the most routine B2016 calls we take.

Shots on my B2016 are running hot then cold. Can you fix the temperature?

On a heat-exchanger machine the brew temperature follows boiler pressure, so when it wanders the pressurestat or scale is usually behind it. We measure brew water at the group with a calibrated probe, set the pressurestat, and dial a flush routine in with your barista so the group lands the same temperature shot to shot.

Can you service the volumetric dosing on a B2016 DE?

Yes. When the doses drift on a B2016 DE, the flow-meter pulse wheels have coated in mineral deposit and started miscounting. We pull the meters, clean the impellers, refit them, and reprogram each dose to a weighed target so every button pours true again.

The group on my B2016 is dripping around the portafilter. Is that serious?

It is just a worn group gasket, the most routine wear item on the machine. We back-flush, pull the dispersion screen and screw, fit a fresh gasket, grease the portafilter ears, and confirm a dry seal across several test shots. On a B2016 it is about a 30-minute job.

Do you still service older B2016 machines?

Yes, including the earlier generations other shops have dropped. Current parts come through the Italian distribution channel, and where something is no longer made we source from refurbisher networks or fit aftermarket gicleurs and gaskets we have validated against the platform.

How often does a B2016 need descaling?

It depends entirely on your water and your volume. On hard local supply a busy B2016 wants attention every couple of months, and the first signs are slow warm-up and softer steam. We set an interval to suit your actual use and fit softening on the heaviest bars so scale stops eating the boiler and probe.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Bezzera B2016 deserves a specialist.
