Sprayhead pattern degrading from scale
Scale narrowing the orifices throws off the spray pattern. We pull the head, clear and descale each hole, verify the pattern against a clean reference, and reinstall.

Touchscreen batch brewing
When the CBS-2231 NG locks up mid-service, a specialty coffee program loses its whole front of house in one beep. We know this single-station touchscreen brewer with the panels off: scaled sprayheads, brew valves that won't cycle, NG firmware hangs, descale alerts that survive a reset. Tell us the symptom and we repair it right at the counter, parts on the van.

Fetco · Next-generation touchscreen batch brewer
The CBS-2231 NG is Fetco's single-station next-generation touchscreen brewer, rated near 18.9 gallons an hour. It refines the older XTS platform with cleaner recipe management and a touchscreen built for hotels and specialty operators who care about extraction. From the service side the new control layer is where the modern faults live, frozen screens and firmware hangs, while the brewing hardware still fails the old honest way: scale on the sprayhead and tank.

CBS-2231 NG faults we diagnose
These are the CBS-2231 NG faults we meet on real service calls, with the cause behind each one and how we clear it.
Scale narrowing the orifices throws off the spray pattern. We pull the head, clear and descale each hole, verify the pattern against a clean reference, and reinstall.
Mineral buildup on the dispersion plate breaks up the even flow Fetco designed into the head. We descale it, check for warping, and replace the plate if it is deformed.
A brew valve that won't cycle is usually a failed coil or a worn diaphragm. We isolate it electrically, replace the valve assembly, and confirm clean actuation on a test brew.
Bypass calibration drifts as the valve seat wears. We measure the split at the dispense head, reset the timing in the service menu, and fit a new cartridge if leak-by is past spec.
This is usually scale insulating the element or a probe reading low. We descale the tank, verify the reading against a calibrated reference, and replace the probe if its calibration has drifted.
Slow refill is either a tired inlet solenoid or a scaled level probe. We test both, replace whichever is at fault, and watch a full fill before we leave.
A weak element is either scaled over or degrading internally. We descale first, test resistance against spec, and replace the element if performance doesn't come back.
Overflow usually means the grind or filter doesn't match the batch. We check both against Fetco's spec and adjust until the bed drains cleanly.
Frequent descale alerts track hard local water. We descale, reset the counter, and recommend a softener or scale cartridge upstream so the interval stops shrinking.
A drip from the sprayhead at standby is the brew valve diaphragm leaking past its seat. We replace the diaphragm and seat, then confirm the head stays dry at standby pressure.
An unresponsive NG screen is a firmware hang or a failed digitizer. We reboot, check the NG firmware revision, and reflash or replace the display depending on which it turns out to be.
An E-code points at a specific subsystem. We read the log, match the code to its fault, and fix the underlying cause rather than just clearing the message.
Erratic level readings come from scale building up on the probe rod. We descale it, recheck continuity to the tank, and replace the probe if it still misreads.
A drifting temperature probe is wear or scale on the immersion sleeve. We compare it to a calibrated reference, descale the sleeve, and replace the probe if the drift is permanent.
A LUXUS server losing heat is usually a worn dispense valve seal or a tired lid gasket. We replace the seal kit and gasket, then pressure-test the vacuum to rule out a breach.
NG brewers report to remote monitoring, and dropouts are usually network credentials or the connectivity module. We confirm the credentials, reset the module, and replace it if the radio itself has failed.
An off-spec pulse pattern is a brew valve relay not timing cleanly. We test the relay in service mode, replace it if it isn't actuating, and verify the pulse pattern against the profile.

Most frozen NG screens are a firmware hang rather than dead hardware. We run a controlled reboot, check the firmware against the current revision, and reflash if it keeps locking. If the digitizer itself has failed the display is a routine swap, and we back up your brew recipes before any firmware work so nothing is lost.
On the NG single-tank the usual cause is scale insulating the element or a temperature probe reading low. We descale the tank, check the element against spec, and measure brew temperature right at the sprayhead before we leave. A probe that has genuinely drifted gets replaced against a calibrated reference.
An E-code points at one subsystem, a probe, the element protection, or a valve. We read the full log through the service menu, match the code to the real fault, and fix the cause rather than just clearing the message. The brewer gets a full test cycle before we close the call.
Usually, yes, and it is rarely the brewer. A dropout is almost always network credentials or the connectivity module. We confirm the credentials, reset the module, and replace it only if the radio has actually failed, then watch it reconnect.
On unfiltered local supply, expect a descale every two to three months at hotel volume, longer with a filter fitted and lighter use. The honest tell is heat-up time and the machine's own alert. If the descale alert will not clear after a completed cycle, the counter needs resetting.
Almost always worth repairing. The NG is a serious capital purchase, and most of what fails on it, seals, probes, valves, even a sprayhead, costs a fraction of a new machine. We give you the repair number and an honest read on remaining life, and you decide.
Yes. We reset the bypass split that sets strength through the service menu and verify brew temperature at the sprayhead, then tune the profile to the coffee you actually serve instead of leaving factory defaults. Your existing recipes are backed up first.
Scale narrowing the sprayhead orifices is shifting the water pattern, so the bed brews unevenly and the cup goes thin. We pull the head, clear and descale each hole, check the pattern against a clean reference, and inspect the dispersion plate above the basket while we are in there.
Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.
Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.
The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.
No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.
Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.
On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.
Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.
Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.
High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.
Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.
Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.
Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
