Error code reference
Fetco error codes, what they mean and how to fix them.
These are the fault and error codes we see most often on Fetco's CBS coffee brewers, TBS tea brewers, airpot and thermal-dispenser units, and LUXUS dispensers. Each entry explains what the code means, what usually causes it, what you can safely check yourself, and when it is time to call a technician.

About these codes. Compiled from Fetco brewer documentation, current product-family research, and our own GTA service logs. Code behaviour varies a little by model and firmware revision, so treat these as a starting point rather than the final word for your exact unit. Updated August 2026
Sprayhead
1 codeE07 Sprayhead pressure out of range
The controller measured brew water flowing outside its expected pressure window and may abort the brew to protect the cycle.
Likely causes
- Sprayhead scaled and restricting flow
- Bypass orifice plugged
- Brew valve not opening fully
- Building supply pressure low
Try this first
- Remove the sprayhead and inspect for scale or plugged holes
- Confirm the supply pressure hasn't dropped
- Run a hot-water test where supported
If sprayhead-pressure errors persist after a descale, the bypass or brew valve needs attention. We isolate the restriction and repair it.
Tank
2 codesE02 Tank heating timeout
The tank hasn't reached brew-ready temperature within the allowed warm-up window, so the brew is locked out.
Likely causes
- Heating element open or scaled to insulation
- Element relay (SSR) failed open
- High-limit thermostat tripped
- Tank under-filled due to a level-probe fault
Try this first
- Verify the supply is open and the tank is filling
- Power-cycle and watch for normal warm-up
- Reset the high-limit if accessible
A heating timeout is usually element scale or a failed solid-state relay. We descale, test resistance, and replace the failing part in one visit.
E15 Brew temperature out of spec
The tank reached temperature but drifted outside the programmed brew range partway through a cycle.
Likely causes
- Scale insulating the element (slow recovery)
- Temperature probe drift
- SSR cycling abnormally
Try this first
- Run a descale cycle if interval is reached
- Confirm the probe lead is undamaged
We measure brew temperature at the sprayhead against spec, descale the tank, and replace the probe if the drift is permanent.
Heating
3 codesE10 Element protection trip
The element protection circuit has tripped on over-current or dry-fire, and heating is locked out.
Likely causes
- Element shorted internally
- Dry-fire from low tank water
- Level probe failure allowing heating without water
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Confirm the tank is filling to normal level
An element protection trip usually means the element is failing or the level probe is letting it dry-fire. We test both and replace as needed.
E11 High-limit thermostat tripped
The mechanical over-temperature thermostat has opened and cut power to the element, and the brew stays disabled until it is reset.
Likely causes
- Tank ran dry and overheated
- Element runaway from a stuck SSR
- High-limit thermostat itself failed open
Try this first
- Allow the tank to cool fully
- Reset the high-limit button if accessible
- Confirm water level is normal before powering back on
If the high-limit trips again after a reset, the relay is sticking or the thermostat itself is failing. We find the root cause and replace it.
E12 Element resistance out of spec
On models that monitor element resistance, the controller is reading the element outside its expected range.
Likely causes
- Element partially open (degraded)
- Element shorted internally
- Wiring loom connection corroded
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
We measure element resistance against spec and replace it. This is routine on Fetco machines past five to seven years on unfiltered water.
Brew valve
2 codesE05 Brew valve fault
The controller told the brew valve to open, but the feedback or current draw says it didn't, so the brew is locked out.
Likely causes
- Brew valve solenoid coil open
- Solenoid driver on the controller failed
- Wiring loom disconnected
- Mechanical bind in the valve body
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Visually verify the brew valve wiring is seated
We test the coil and its driver and replace whichever has failed. Most CBS brew valves ride on the truck.
E08 Brew cycle timeout
The brew ran past the controller's maximum window, so it aborts the cycle to avoid overfilling.
Likely causes
- Brew valve solenoid sluggish or partially closed
- Flow meter pulses missing
- Severely scaled sprayhead
- Programmed batch volume exceeds spec
Try this first
- Confirm batch size matches model spec
- Inspect the sprayhead for scale
- Listen for the brew valve actuating cleanly
We replace the failing valve, clean the flow meter, or descale the sprayhead, whichever is throttling the cycle.
Decanter
1 codeLUXUS Server Comm Error LUXUS satellite dispenser communication fault
On systems with monitored LUXUS-Plus dispensers, the brewer has lost its handshake with the dispenser's sensor.
Likely causes
- Dispenser connector contacts corroded
- Sensor cable damaged
- Brewer-side connector contaminated with coffee
Try this first
- Lift and reseat the dispenser firmly on the base
- Inspect connector pins for residue or corrosion
A persistent comm fault needs the connector pins or the in-dispenser sensor replaced. It is a quick on-site fix.
Bypass
1 codeE06 Bypass valve fault
The bypass valve isn't actuating as commanded or its timing is out of range, so brew strength can drift from the programmed recipe.
Likely causes
- Bypass solenoid coil open or shorted
- Bypass valve seat worn (leak-by)
- Bypass orifice scaled
Try this first
- Compare brew strength against the expected recipe with a refractometer if available
- Inspect the bypass output during brew
We service the bypass valve, recalibrate its timing in the service menu, and replace the cartridge if leak-by is out of spec.
Electronics
2 codesE20 Touchscreen / display fault
On CBS-2100 and 2200 XTS models, the touchscreen has lost communication with the main controller, or the digitizer has stopped responding.
Likely causes
- Ribbon cable unseated between display and main board
- Touch digitizer failed
- Firmware corruption after a power event
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Verify display ribbon connection where accessible
A persistent display fault usually needs the ribbon reseated, the firmware reflashed, or the display module replaced. We diagnose and quote before ordering parts.
E21 Firmware / EEPROM fault
The controller has found corrupted firmware or EEPROM contents, and the programmed recipes may have reverted to factory defaults.
Likely causes
- Power interruption during firmware update
- EEPROM write failure
- Backup battery / capacitor failed
Try this first
- Re-enter the operator's programmed recipes
- Run a controlled power cycle to confirm settings hold
If the settings drop again, we reflash the firmware and replace the backup power source. Recipes are backed up before any firmware work.
Water
3 codesE04 Refill timeout / no water detected
The fill cycle didn't finish in the allowed time, and the level probe rarely registered the tank as full.
Likely causes
- Inlet solenoid scaled or stuck closed
- Building supply pressure below the Fetco minimum (typically 20 PSI)
- Inlet screen blocked
- Level probe failed
Try this first
- Verify the supply tap is open and the hose isn't kinked
- Listen for the inlet solenoid clicking on refill
- Inspect the inlet screen for debris
If the solenoid clicks but no water flows, the valve or inlet screen is blocked. We clean both and replace the solenoid if it won't seat.
E09 Flow meter no pulses
The flow meter isn't sending pulses during dispense, so the controller can't measure volume and aborts.
Likely causes
- Flow meter turbine clogged with mineral deposits
- Flow meter cable disconnected
- Brew valve not actually opening
- Pump losing prime (where fitted)
Try this first
- Run a hot-water dispense to check non-brew flow
- Inspect the flow meter cable connector
Clearing the flow meter is straightforward. We strip it, clear the turbine, and recalibrate flow.
Service / Descale Required Maintenance counter reached descale or service interval
The maintenance counter has reached its programmed interval for a descale, sprayhead clean, or scheduled service. The brewer keeps running through a grace period.
Likely causes
- Brew count or operating-hours interval reached
- Descale interval reached based on water-hardness configuration
- Counter wasn't reset after the previous service
Try this first
- Run the appropriate maintenance procedure
- Reset the counter through the CBS service menu
If the alert won't clear after a valid service, we confirm the counter reset and check the water-hardness setting.
Sensors
3 codesE01 Tank temperature probe fault
The controller is reading the tank temperature probe out of range, open or shorted, so it shuts off heating to protect the element.
Likely causes
- Probe failed open or shorted
- Probe lead damaged or chafed
- Connector unseated at the controller
Try this first
- Power-cycle the machine
- Reseat the probe connector at the board if accessible
- Inspect the probe lead for visible damage
Open or shorted probes don't recover on their own. We test the probe against the reference table and replace it on-site.
E03 Level probe fault
The tank level probe isn't sensing water contact, so the refill cycle keeps repeating without ever confirming a full tank.
Likely causes
- Level probe scaled (insulating from water)
- Tank actually empty due to inlet failure
- Probe wire disconnected
- Ground continuity to the tank lost
Try this first
- Confirm water is reaching the tank (listen for the inlet)
- Power-cycle the machine
Most Fetco level-probe faults are scale insulating the probe. We clean or replace it and confirm continuity back to the tank ground.
E30 Drain or overflow detected
The drain pan or overflow sensor is reading water where it shouldn't be, and the machine may lock out the brew until it is cleared.
Likely causes
- Brew valve leak-by dripping into the basket
- Sprayhead supply line cracked or leaking
- Drain pan blocked and backing up
- Overflow sensor wet from condensation
Try this first
- Inspect under the brewer for active leaking
- Dry the overflow sensor and reseat the drain pan
An active leak needs the source found and the failing seal or valve replaced. Routine work for us.
Other
2 codesE25 TBS dilution timing fault
On TBS tea brewers, the timing between the brewed concentrate and the dispense water is out of spec, so tea dispenses at the wrong strength.
Likely causes
- Dilution solenoid scaled or leaking past
- Dilution flow meter clogged
- Programmed dilution ratio drifted
Try this first
- Measure dispense flow against the operator's expected ratio
- Run a calibration cycle if supported
We measure the dilution flow at the dispense head, recalibrate the ratio in service mode, and replace the dilution solenoid if it is leaking past.
Cleaning Cycle Incomplete Scheduled cleaning didn't complete
The scheduled cleaning cycle was interrupted or rarely finished, so the brewer flags it as incomplete and may lock out if cleaning is overdue.
Likely causes
- Power interruption mid-cycle
- Cleaning circuit blockage
- Cleaning tablet not detected or dosed
Try this first
- Re-initiate the cleaning cycle from the service menu
- Verify cleaning chemical is present
A repeating cleaning abort needs the specific stage diagnosed. We clear the blockage or replace the failing sensor.

FAQ
Fetco error codes, frequently asked.
9 answers about resetting codes, recurring faults, firmware versions, and when DIY ends. If the recurring ones are descale or water warnings, start with the right Fetco water filter.
Updated August 2026
What does Fetco error code E01 mean?
Every documented Fetco fault we see is listed above, with its meaning, common causes, and what to try before calling a technician. If the code on your machine isn't on this page, call us with the exact display string and we'll work it out by phone.
Can I clear or reset a Fetco error code myself?
Sometimes. Many Fetco codes clear after a power cycle, a completed descale, or a counter reset through the service menu. Codes tied to a hardware fault (failed sensor, blown element, board issue) will return immediately and need a technician. Each code above lists what's safe to try first.
Why does the same Fetco error keep coming back?
A code that returns after a power cycle is signalling a real fault, not a glitch. The underlying part (sensor, heating element, valve, motor, board) needs replacement. Repeat codes are diagnostic gold for us, so call with the exact code and any timing or symptom pattern you've noticed.
My Fetco code isn't listed. Why?
Fetco updates fault tables across firmware revisions and model generations, and not every code is documented publicly. We see codes in the field that aren't in any published list. Call us with the exact display string and the model and we'll work it out from our service log.
How fast can you get on-site if I'm stuck on an error code?
Most calls in Toronto and the immediate GTA get same-day on-site response. Tell us the code and the model when you book and we'll bring the right parts on the first visit so the repair finishes the same day.
Do I need to be authorized by Fetco to reset an error code?
No. We're an independent service provider, not affiliated with Fetco, and we work on machines outside the manufacturer's authorized network routinely. That independence lets us service older or out-of-warranty machines authorized networks may decline, and quote transparently every time.
Is it worth fixing an old Fetco machine that keeps throwing codes?
Depends on the machine, the code, and the cost. We give you honest math on this. If repairs are starting to exceed roughly 50% of a refurbished replacement and multiple major systems are throwing codes, we'll tell you it's time to look at replacing rather than running up the repair bill.
Will independent service void my Fetco warranty?
If your machine is under the manufacturer's warranty, independent service may affect coverage depending on Fetco's specific terms. Try the manufacturer's authorized network first. If their response is slow or they decline coverage for your code, call us and we'll service it on standard terms.
How many Fetco codes are documented on this page?
20 codes are documented above, organized by the system they affect. The list is compiled from manufacturer service literature, technician forums, and our own service log. We update it as new codes appear or firmware adds new states.
