Mid-range Brasilia, full duty

Brasilia BL-100 repair that shows up today. GTA-wide.

Steam that fades halfway through breakfast service is how a BL-100 usually asks for help. This mid-range Brasilia is steady work for us: the same B16 group as the flagship with fewer electronics around it, so faults land in the pressurestat, the boiler, and the wear parts. We measure at the portafilter, repair what's out of spec, and verify the keypad programming before we go.

Brasilia · Current Italian commercial espresso (Bianchi Industry), mid-range

The BL-100.

The BL-100 is the mid-range workhorse of Brasilia's current line, rated for up to 500 shots a day. It pairs the B16 brewing unit with deliberately plain controls: static pre-infusion, an LED membrane keypad, a stainless steel boiler with dry steam, and per-group Auto-Cleaning. Less electronics means less to go wrong, and most of what we do on these is honest mechanical work: pressurestats, gaskets, scale.

Electronics, grinder & other 5 issues
!

B16 brewing unit thermal stability drift

Same B16 platform as the BL-500, but the brew profile here is set by boiler pressure and group geometry rather than per-group electronics, so the pressurestat gets checked first. We verify each group's brew temperature against a calibrated probe, inspect the thermosiphon for scale, and descale as needed.

!

LED membrane keypad unresponsive on one or more selections

Membrane keypads wear with cycle count, and a broken LED trace silences whichever selection it serves. Continuity testing across the keypad shows whether it's one trace or the whole membrane, and we replace what has failed. Each volumetric programming step is then checked to confirm it still records correctly.

!

Auto-Cleaning cycle incomplete

Cleaner level, blank seal, and water inlet pressure all need to cooperate for the cycle to finish. We verify the three in order, correct what's out, and re-run the cycle to confirm completion.

!

Group head gasket leaking around the portafilter

A weeping portafilter on the B16 group means the gasket has compressed past its useful life. We back-flush the group, fit a new gasket, lubricate the portafilter ears with food-safe grease, and verify a clean seal across multiple test shots.

!

Boiler scale build-up reducing steam pressure

Years on hard municipal water coat the stainless steel boiler, and weak steam is the first complaint. The boiler gets a full descale, the element's resistance gets measured, and a low-drawing element is replaced while everything is open. Steam pressure is re-verified under load before we call it done.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right Brasilia water filter ends the repeat visits.

FAQ

Brasilia BL-100, frequently asked.

Updated August 2026

Why did part of my BL-100 keypad stop responding?

The LED membrane keypad wears with cycle count, and a broken trace silences whichever selection it served. We test continuity across the keypad to see whether it's one trace or the whole membrane, then replace what's failed. Every volumetric setting gets checked afterward so each button records its dose correctly.

Steam on my BL-100 has gone weak. What's the usual cause?

Scale in the stainless steel boiler, built up over years of hard water. A full descale restores the steam, and we measure the heating element's resistance while the boiler is open, replacing it if it's drawing low. Pressure gets verified under load before the technician leaves.

What's the difference between a BL-100 and a BL-500 when something breaks?

Mostly what can break. The BL-100 runs the same B16 group but with static pre-infusion, a membrane keypad, and no touchscreen, so there is far less electronics to fail. Repairs skew mechanical: pressurestat, boiler, gaskets, and the keypad itself, which generally makes diagnosis quicker and parts cheaper.

Why are shots on my BL-100 running cooler than they used to?

On this machine the brew profile is set by boiler pressure and group geometry, so a drifting pressurestat is the first suspect and scale in the thermosiphon the second. We measure brew temperature at the portafilter with a calibrated probe, then adjust or descale based on what the numbers say.

My BL-100 lost its programmed doses. Can they be recovered?

They can be reprogrammed, and we verify every keypad selection records correctly afterward. If the machine won't hold its volumetric settings, the fault sits in the keypad or the controller rather than the programming, and continuity testing tells us which.

Coffee is weeping around the portafilter on my BL-100. How urgent is that?

It won't stop the machine today, but it costs you shot quality and gets worse on its own. The group gasket has compressed past its life; replacing it, inspecting the dispersion screen, and greasing the portafilter ears is quick, inexpensive work. Book it before the leak starts spitting at your baristas.

Why does the Auto-Cleaning cycle on my BL-100 keep stopping partway?

Per-group Auto-Cleaning needs three things: cleaning chemical in supply, the blank seated square in the portafilter, and decent inlet water pressure. One of the three has slipped in nearly every case we see, and the cycle completes once it's corrected.

Does a 2-group BL-100 cost less to repair than a 3-group?

Often, but only on per-group work. Gaskets, screens, and group services scale with the number of groups; boiler, pump, and keypad repairs cost the same on either configuration. We quote against the actual work, so the group count only matters when the job touches every group.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
