Bean program plus decaf

Fast, expert Cafection Encore Ground repair. Same-day across the GTA.

The Encore Ground earns its keep with the bypass chute, and that chute is usually where the trouble starts: pre-ground coffee compacts, the flap sticks, and the decaf drinkers go without. We repair the whole machine, chute included, plus the brew chamber, grinder, and milk-path faults it shares with the rest of the Encore family.

Cafection · Office bean-to-cup with pre-ground option

The Encore Ground.

The Encore Ground adds a pre-ground bypass chute to Cafection's Encore platform, rated for up to 150 cups a day. The chute matters more than it sounds: it lets an office serve decaf or a specialty pre-ground alongside the main bean program without a second machine. Underneath sits the familiar reverse French press chamber and a fresh milk cooler, so the service picture is the standard Encore one, with the chute flap and its solenoid added to the list of parts that earn their living.

Encore Ground faults we diagnose

Common Encore Ground faults, chute first.

The faults below are what an Encore Ground typically books us for, with causes and fixes spelled out.

Brew system & pressure 4 issues
!

Bypass chute jam with pre-ground coffee

Pre-ground coffee compacts in the chute, or the chute flap turns sticky with coffee oils. We strip the chute, clean every surface, confirm the flap actuates cleanly, and replace the flap solenoid if it isn't firing.

!

Brew chamber jam or alert

Seals worn, grind built up, or the agitator out of line. The chamber comes out, the screen gets cleaned, fresh seals go in, and we cycle it until it runs clean.

!

Grounds in cup or weak coffee

A torn screen or a coarse grind lets the cup go muddy or thin. We inspect the screen, verify the brew timing, and recalibrate the grind.

!

Chamber leak

A degraded O-ring, nine times out of ten. We pressure-test to confirm, replace the seal set, and check the chamber stays dry across several brews.

Water, boiler & heating 3 issues
!

Slow heating

The element is either coated in scale or wearing out. We descale first, measure the warm-up time, and only fit a new element when the measurement says the old one is done.

!

Filter alert or pump issues

We measure the water hardness, replace the cartridge with the correct spec, and chase any pump or valve fault through the circuit end to end.

!

Drink volume drift

A fouled flow meter or pump wear. We measure actual flow, clean the meter, recalibrate the dosing, and quote the pump only if it measures weak.

Milk & steam 2 issues
!

Cappuccinatore off-taste or clogs

Milk residue from skipped daily cleans. We deep clean the milk circuit, swap any stained lines, and reset the daily routine with your staff.

!

Milk pump weak draw

A worn impeller or air sneaking in at a connection. We pressure-test the milk circuit, inspect the pump head, and fit a new impeller if the draw is down.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Dose drift

Burrs wearing down quietly. The dose gets weighed, the burr gap measured, the grind time recalibrated, and the burrs replaced when the wear says so.

!

Main controller communication fault

Needs the red reset button on the main board rather than a wall power cycle. We press it and confirm the controller and screen come back in sync.

!

Touchscreen unresponsive

Most stuck screens are firmware hangs; the rest are loose ribbon cables. We reset, reseat, and only order a display module when the touch panel is genuinely dead.

!

Sophia offline

We check the network at the machine, test the telemetry board, and reauthorize the unit with the operator's Sophia admin if the registration has drifted.

!

Cleaning cycle abort

Level sensor, detergent, or a blocked return line. We pinpoint the stage the cycle dies at and clear, refill, or replace as the diagnosis dictates.

!

Cup detection unreliable

Usually mist or dust on the cup-sensor lens. We clean it, re-aim it, and replace it if detection still drops out.

FAQ

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated July 2026

Why does the pre-ground chute on my Encore Ground keep jamming?

Pre-ground coffee compacts far more readily than whole beans, and the chute flap gets sticky with coffee oils on top of that. Finer grinds and humid rooms make it worse. We strip and clean the chute, verify the flap actuates, and replace the flap solenoid if it has stopped firing; switching to a slightly coarser pre-ground helps it stay clear.

Decaf drinks stopped working but regular coffee is fine. Why?

That's the bypass path failing while the bean path carries on, which actually narrows the diagnosis nicely. It's the chute, the flap, or its solenoid. Regular coffee never touches those parts, so a quick chute service usually restores the decaf side without touching the rest of the machine.

Can we run any pre-ground coffee through the Encore Ground?

Most standard commercial grinds work. The chute dislikes very fine, espresso-style grinds, which compact and bridge, and oily flavoured coffees that coat the flap. A medium drip-style grind flows reliably; if you're changing supplier, run a test batch and watch the first few cycles.

Why are there grounds in the cup from our Encore Ground?

A torn or badly seated filter screen in the brew chamber, in most cases. A grind running too coarse produces weak coffee at the same time, which is the other half of the complaint we usually hear. The screen is a quick, inexpensive replacement, and we recalibrate the grind in the same visit.

The milk drinks from our Encore Ground taste off. What's the fix?

Milk residue in the cappuccinatore path, almost always from missed daily cleans. We deep clean the circuit, sanitize the connectors, and replace any silicone line that's discoloured, because stained hose walls hold protein no matter how hard you rinse. Then we reset the daily routine with your staff so it doesn't come back.

How many cups a day can the Encore Ground handle?

Up to 150, spread through the day. That's mid-pack for the Encore family and right for most single-floor offices. Run it consistently harder and the wear schedule shortens, which is worth knowing before headcount doubles.

Our Encore Ground says it needs a filter change constantly. Normal?

No, that points to a counter problem rather than a thirsty filter. Either the counter wasn't reset after the last swap or its hardness setting doesn't match your actual water. We measure the water, fit the right cartridge, and set the counter so the alert means something again.

Is the Encore Ground worth fixing out of warranty?

Almost always. The faults this model actually has, chute, seals, screens, gaskets, are small-money parts, and the platform is built for repair rather than disposal. If a machine ever reaches the point where repair stops making sense, we'll tell you that before you spend.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day in most cases. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Cafection Encore Ground deserves a specialist.
