de Jong DUKE · Compact office coffee machine

The Zia.

The Zia is de Jong DUKE's bestselling compact, sized for offices pouring up to 100 cups a day. It runs the same fresh-brew chamber and agitator as its bigger siblings, scaled into a chassis that fits a kitchenette counter, with an instant canister and whipper bowl for the chocolate and cappuccino crowd. ConnectMe telemetry comes standard. Service-wise it's honest: the whipper wears first, the chamber wants seals every few years, and very little else complains.

Zia faults we diagnose

Zia faults we see again and again.

A Zia tends to fail in predictable spots. Here's what actually goes wrong, what causes it, and how we put it right.

Brew system & pressure 3 issues
!

Fresh-brew chamber weak

Worn paddle, tired chamber seals, or a coarse-drifted grind. Each gets checked, worn parts replaced, the dose recalibrated, and the brew verified at full strength.

!

Grounds in cup

The filter screen has torn or the chamber seal is failing. We open the chamber, replace both as needed, and test until the cup runs clean.

!

Chamber jamming

Grind buildup on the drive or a sensor fault. We clean the chamber drive, replace worn components, and confirm smooth cycling before closing up.

Water, boiler & heating 4 issues
!

Slow heating

Scale insulating the element. We descale, test resistance, and replace the element if heat-up time doesn't recover.

!

Overheat cutout tripping

Scale again, overheating the element locally. We descale, reset the cutout, and test that it holds.

!

Leak under cabinet

An O-ring or hose has let go. We pressure-test the circuit, find the point, and replace the part.

!

Descale alert recurring

An incomplete cycle or an unreset counter. We run it properly, reset, and check the hardness setting against your water.

Milk & steam 2 issues
!

Whipper bowl weak mixing

Impeller wear or scale at the inlet. The bowl gets cleaned, the impeller replaced, the inlet cleared, and the drinks tested across the menu.

!

Whipper bowl leak

The shaft seal has worn through. We fit a new one and run the whipper until we're sure it stays dry.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Dose drift

The burrs are wearing. Dose is weighed, the grinder recalibrated, and burrs replaced once the numbers show they're past spec.

!

Foreign-object noise

A stone in the hopper, usually. We clear it, check the burrs for chips, and replace them if the damage is real.

!

Canister sensor fault

Powder dust or a failing sensor. We clean it, verify the connector, and replace the sensor if detection stays intermittent.

!

Fault code displayed

We pull the error log, identify the failing sensor or relay, replace it, clear the log, and test the menu end to end.

!

ConnectMe offline

Usually network settings, sometimes the module. We verify the connection, reset the stack, and swap the module if it's hardware.

!

Daily clean cycle interrupted

A blockage or sensor fault somewhere in the cycle. We find the stalled stage and clear it for good.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right de Jong DUKE water filter ends the repeat visits.

de Jong DUKE Zia

FAQ

de Jong DUKE Zia, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

Is the Zia big enough for our office?

It's rated for up to 100 cups a day, which covers most small and mid-size teams comfortably. The pattern matters more than the number: 100 cups spread across a day suit it better than a hundred-person rush at 9 a.m. If your headcount has outgrown it, faults start arriving faster, and that's usually the signal.

Why is our Zia brewing weak coffee all of a sudden?

It's rarely sudden; it just crossed the threshold where people mention it. A worn agitator paddle, tired chamber seals, or grind drifted coarse are the causes, and all three build slowly. We check each, replace the worn parts, recalibrate the dose, and the strength comes back.

There are grounds in the bottom of every cup. What's torn?

Most likely the filter screen inside the brew chamber, with a failing chamber seal as the runner-up. The screen is a cheap part and the swap is quick. We replace the seals at the same time and run repeat test brews until the cup is consistently clean.

Why is liquid leaking under the whipper bowl?

The motor-shaft seal beneath the bowl wears through with daily use, and once it weeps it only gets worse. We strip the whipper, fit a new shaft seal, and check the motor bushing for play while it's apart. After that it should run completely dry.

The descale alert comes back a week after we descale. Why?

Either the cycle isn't running end-to-end, the counter isn't being reset afterwards, or the machine's water-hardness setting doesn't match your actual supply. Any of the three makes the alert nag on a schedule that has nothing to do with real scale. We sort all of it in one visit and confirm the descale genuinely worked.

The canister shows empty when it's clearly full. Easy fix?

Usually, yes. Powder dust coats the sensor, the connector works loose, or the canister isn't seated all the way home after a refill. A clean and a firm refit solve most cases on the spot, and a sensor that keeps misreading gets replaced.

Our Zia trips its overheat cutout. Should we just keep resetting it?

No. The cutout trips because scale is making the element overheat locally, and resetting it without removing the cause slowly cooks the element. We descale, test the element, and reset the cutout once the machine is actually safe to heat. If the element has already degraded, we replace it.

Is a Zia worth repairing, or should we just buy new?

For nearly every fault on this machine, repair wins easily: seals, impellers, sensors, and screens are all small parts against the price of a new commercial unit. The math only gets debatable when an older Zia needs several major components at once. If yours is there, we'll say so before you spend anything.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your de Jong DUKE Zia deserves a specialist.

Booked in minutes, usually fixed in one visit.
