Fetco · Maritime-spec batch brewer

The MBS-1221 Plus.

The MBS-1221 Plus is Fetco's marine-spec single-station brewer, hardened for cruise and harsh environments. It uses the same CBS-1221 brew path but adds sealed electronics and corrosion-resistant fittings, so it serves galleys and offshore sites where a standard brewer would not last. On the bench the brewing faults are familiar, scale and valve wear, while the marine-specific problems, harness corrosion and vibration-loosened fittings, are where the real attention goes.

MBS-1221 Plus faults we diagnose

Common MBS-1221 Plus faults, and how we fix them.

These are the MBS-1221 Plus faults we see on real service calls, with the cause behind each one and how we clear it.

Brew system & pressure 3 issues
!

Sprayhead scaled from harder marine water supply

Marine supply runs mineral-heavy, so the sprayhead scales quickly. We descale each orifice and verify the pattern.

!

Brew valve fault

A brew valve fault here is a failed coil or worn diaphragm. We isolate it and replace it with the marine-spec part.

!

Bypass timing drift

Bypass timing drifts with seat wear. We measure the split, reset it, and replace the cartridge if needed.

Water, boiler & heating 5 issues
!

Brew temperature drift

Temperature drift is scale insulating the element or a thermostat reading off. We descale the tank, test the thermostat against a reference, and replace it if it is out of spec.

!

Refill slow

Slow refill is the inlet valve or the level probe. We test each and replace whichever has failed.

!

Element protection trip

A weak or tripping element is scale insulation. We descale and replace the element if it doesn't recover.

!

Basket overflow

Overflow comes down to a grind or filter that doesn't suit the batch. We check both against spec and adjust until the bed drains properly.

!

Scale buildup heavy

Hard marine water builds scale fast. We descale the machine and recommend softening on the supply where it can be fitted.

Electronics, grinder & other 7 issues
!

Standby drip

A drip from the sprayhead at standby is the brew valve diaphragm leaking past its seat. We replace the diaphragm and seat, then confirm the head stays dry at standby pressure.

!

Controller fault

The MBS runs sealed marine electronics. We diagnose through the unit's service interface and replace the affected module.

!

Corrosion at wiring harness

Salt-air exposure corrodes harness connectors over time. We inspect every connector, clean and protect them with dielectric grease, and replace any harness section where corrosion has eaten the continuity.

!

Level probe erratic

Erratic level readings are scale or probe wear. We descale the probe and replace it if it still misreads.

!

Thermostat drift

A drifting thermostat is sensor wear. We compare it to a reference and replace it if it is out.

!

Server losing heat

A server losing heat is worn seals. We replace the dispense seal and gasket.

!

Vibration-loosened fittings

Constant vibration aboard works fittings loose. We torque-check every fitting and replace any with thread damage.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right Fetco water filter ends the repeat visits.

FAQ

Fetco MBS-1221 Plus, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

The wiring on our MBS-1221 Plus is corroding. Can you fix it?

Yes, this is the classic marine fault. Salt-air exposure corrodes the harness connectors over time. We inspect every connector, clean and protect them with dielectric grease, and replace any harness section where corrosion has eaten the continuity.

Fittings on our MBS-1221 Plus keep working loose. Why?

Constant vibration aboard shakes threaded fittings loose, which is exactly what the marine spec is built to resist over time. We torque-check every fitting on the machine and replace any with thread damage so they stay put.

The sealed controller on our MBS-1221 Plus has faulted. What do you do?

The MBS runs sealed marine electronics, so we diagnose through the unit's service interface rather than opening it to the air. We identify the affected module and replace it with the marine-spec part.

Why does the MBS-1221 Plus sprayhead scale so quickly?

Marine and harsh-environment supply often runs mineral-heavy, so the sprayhead scales faster than a typical land install. We descale each orifice, verify the spray pattern, and recommend softening on the supply where it can be fitted.

Can you service our MBS-1221 Plus when it is landed for refit?

Yes, that is when most of this work happens. Units come ashore for refit and we handle the descale, corrosion repair, electronics, and brew-path service then, so the brewer goes back aboard sorted.

A brew valve failed on our MBS-1221 Plus. Do you use marine parts?

Yes. A failed valve is a worn diaphragm or coil, and we replace it with the marine-spec part rather than a standard one, so it stands up to the environment it is going back into.

Is our older MBS-1221 Plus worth repairing?

Usually. The brew-path parts and most marine-spec components are still available, and corrosion and vibration faults are repairable rather than terminal. We give you an honest read on remaining life against a replacement.

The brew temperature on our MBS-1221 Plus is reading low. What is it?

It is generally scale on the element or a drifted thermostat, the same as any tank brewer. We descale, test the thermostat against a reference, replace it if it is out, and verify temperature at the sprayhead.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
