My RE Doppia's TFT screen froze. Do I need a new controller?
Probably not. Most frozen TFTs are firmware hangs that clear with a reflash from a verified Rocket image over USB, and a loose display ribbon explains most of the rest. The controller board itself is the last suspect, and we test before quoting it.
Can I update the RE Doppia's software myself over USB?
The machine supports USB updates, but a failed or interrupted update is one of the more common ways these controllers end up corrupted. If you do it yourself, use a verified image and stable power. When an update has already gone wrong, we recover it with a clean reflash.
Why is my RE Doppia's brew temperature unstable?
The brew groups are pre-heated from the brew boiler, and scale along that heat path starves them. A brew boiler descale plus a PID check against a calibrated probe restores it. If the NTC sensor has drifted out of spec, it gets replaced rather than compensated for.
What is the dry-steam system on the RE Doppia, and what fails in it?
Rocket heats the steam pathway so the wand delivers steam with minimal condensation, which means drier foam and less water in the milk. The failure mode is the heated-pathway element giving up, and the symptom is water pooling at the tip again. It's a continuity test and a part swap.
Why does the steam pressure reading on the Doppia wander?
The steam boiler's transducer reads through a small sensing port that scale gradually blocks. Cleaning the port and recalibrating the transducer fixes most cases; a transducer that keeps drifting gets replaced. Steady steam pressure is what the dual-boiler design is for, so we don't leave this one approximate.
The volumetric doses on our RE Doppia drifted. What's the repair?
Flow meter impellers coated in mineral deposit, almost every time. We clean the impellers and reprogram each dose against a target weight, verified on a scale rather than by eye. A damaged meter is replaced before recalibration so the drift doesn't return.
Is the RE Doppia the right step up from a Boxer?
For a lot of operators, yes. You gain a true dual-boiler, volumetric dosing, and the TFT controller without the cost or complexity of per-group boilers. From a service standpoint it stays sensible: more electronics than a Boxer, far fewer systems than an R 9.
How long does a typical RE Doppia repair take?
Most single-fault visits finish inside the appointment: gaskets, sensors, transducer work, and reflashes are same-visit jobs. A full double-boiler descale takes longer, and we'll tell you the realistic window when you book. Parts we don't carry are usually in within a couple of business days.
Does hard water hurt the RE Doppia more than other machines?
Not more, but differently: with two boilers running simultaneously, scale gets two places to do damage, and the pre-heated group path is sensitive to it. On the harder water in parts of the GTA we recommend a softener and a shorter descale interval. The TFT makes drift easier to spot early, which helps.
How much does a repair visit cost?
Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.
How fast can you get here?
Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.
Which areas do you cover?
The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.
Do I need a service contract?
No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.
Are the repairs warrantied?
Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.
Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?
On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.
How do I book a service call?
Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.
What happens on the first visit?
Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.
Do you carry parts or order them in?
High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.
My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?
Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.
Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?
Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.
Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?
Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.
