The BL-500.

The BL-500 is the flagship of Brasilia's current range, rated for up to 700 shots a day. It stacks the full Bianchi-era tech list: B16 brewing units with Bullone Rosso pre-heat, adjustable electronic pre-infusion, a stainless steel dry-steam boiler, twin Cool Touch wands, and a 4.3-inch touchscreen with Smart Light status LEDs. On the bench it is the most electronic Brasilia, which means Fixing Control codes do half the diagnostic work before the panels even come off.

BL-500 faults we diagnose

What fails on the BL-500, and the fix.

Five faults cover most BL-500 service calls. Each entry below pairs the usual cause with the repair we actually perform.

Electronics, grinder & other 5 issues
!

B16 brewing unit thermal stability drift

Temperature drift on the B16 group traces back to the Bullone Rosso pre-heat circuit or the thermosiphon, and scale is the usual culprit in both. Each group's set temperature gets verified against a calibrated probe at the portafilter, the pre-heat line is inspected, and the thermosiphon descaled. We then re-dial every group through the 4.3-inch touchscreen.

!

Touchscreen unresponsive or fault code on display

Fault codes on the display come from Fixing Control, Brasilia's self-diagnosis system, and each code maps to a subsystem. Rather than swap parts on faith, we verify the diagnosis by probe first, then reseat cables and service the controller board or touch panel as the evidence dictates. Most of these calls arrive once a machine passes its third year.

!

Electronic pre-infusion not engaging on one group

One group losing pre-infusion almost typically comes down to its per-group solenoid or the controller signal driving it. We test the actuation, trace the signal, and replace whichever component has failed. Timing is re-verified against the operator's target profile before we leave.

!

Auto-Cleaning cycle failing or incomplete

Per-group Auto-Cleaning stalls when the cleaning chemical runs low or the blank isn't seated square in the portafilter. We top up the cleaner, confirm the blank seals, and run the full cycle while watching the controller for fault codes.

!

Cool Touch steam wand losing thermal insulation

Milk residue that penetrates the wand assembly is what degrades the Cool Touch internal thermal break. The wand comes apart for cleaning and inspection, and a failed break means a replacement assembly rather than a patch.

Don't see your issue? Call (289) 217-3796 with a description of what's happening and any error codes on screen. We'll likely diagnose it before we arrive. And if the same fault keeps returning, that's scale at work. The right Brasilia water filter ends the repeat visits.

FAQ

Brasilia BL-500, frequently asked.

21 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated August 2026

What does the fault code on my BL-500 screen mean?

It's Fixing Control, Brasilia's self-diagnosis system, and every code maps to a specific subsystem. We read the code through the touchscreen, then verify the diagnosis with a probe before replacing anything, because a code names the circuit, not always the exact part. Most electronics calls on the BL-500 end at a cable reseat, the touch panel, or the controller board.

Why is one group on my BL-500 not doing pre-infusion?

Each group has its own pre-infusion solenoid driven by the controller, so a single silent group points at that solenoid or its signal. Both are quick to test at the machine, and the failed part gets replaced rather than guessed at. Timing is then re-set against the profile you actually brew with.

Why has my BL-500's shot temperature started drifting?

Scale, almost every time: in the Bullone Rosso pre-heat circuit or the thermosiphon that feeds the B16 groups. We measure brew temperature with a calibrated probe at each portafilter, descale what the readings implicate, and re-dial the per-group temperatures through the touchscreen. The three-level thermosiphon regulation only holds spec when the waterways are clean.

The Cool Touch steam wand on my BL-500 is hot to the touch now. Why?

The wand stays cool because of an internal thermal break, and milk residue working into the assembly degrades it over time. We strip the wand, clean and inspect the insulation, and replace the assembly if the break has failed. Tightening up the daily wand-cleaning routine is what stops the repeat.

Why won't Auto-Cleaning complete on my BL-500?

Per-group Auto-Cleaning stalls when the cleaning chemical runs low, the blank isn't seated square in the portafilter, or inlet water pressure sags. We verify all three and run the full cycle while watching the controller for codes. A cycle that still fails after that is telling us about a valve or sensor, and the code shows which.

Is the BL-500 Light Edition serviced differently from the Dark Edition?

No. The editions differ in finish and trim only; boiler, B16 groups, electronics, and parts are identical. Book the repair as a BL-500 and nothing about the visit changes.

Can a BL-500 really keep up with 700 shots a day?

Yes, that's its rating, and the stainless boiler with three-level thermosiphon regulation is built for exactly that duty. The honest caveat: volume compresses every wear schedule, so gaskets, screens, and descales come due faster than the calendar suggests. Machines that get that rhythm right hold their rating for years.

My BL-500 touchscreen is frozen. Do I need a new display?

Usually not. Most frozen screens are a controller or firmware hang that clears with a proper reset, and we check the board's cable seats while we're in there. A genuinely failed touch panel is a part swap, not a machine writedown, and we confirm which case you have before quoting.

How often should a BL-500 be descaled?

Watch the machine, not the calendar: longer warm-up, fading steam, and drifting group temperatures are the early signals. Volume and water hardness set the real interval, and a busy bar on harder water can need boiler work twice as often as a quiet one. Good inline filtration is the cheapest way to stretch the gap.

How much does a repair visit cost?

Flat rate for the visit, parts billed at their actual cost on top. You'll hear the rate when you book, and for bigger jobs we quote in writing on-site before any work starts. No estimate that balloons mid-job.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day. Call in the morning and a technician is usually on-site before the day is out; calls placed later in the day book for the next morning. Urgent breakdowns get priority routing.

Which areas do you cover?

The GTA and most of the Golden Horseshoe: Toronto through Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham, out to Oshawa, Hamilton, and Niagara. If you're not sure you're in range, call and we'll tell you straight.

Do I need a service contract?

No. We work call by call. Plenty of customers put us on a maintenance schedule eventually, but that's their choice after seeing the work, never a requirement.

Are the repairs warrantied?

Parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind our labour: if the same fault recurs, call us and we'll review it. Specific terms are discussed upfront on each job, not promised in marketing copy.

Do you repair on-site or take the machine away?

On-site whenever possible, which is most of the time. If a job genuinely needs the bench, like a full boiler rebuild or major electronics work, we'll say so before anything leaves your building.

How do I book a service call?

Call us or send the form on this page. We confirm the machine, the fault, and a time window the same day. If it's urgent, say so and we'll route the nearest technician.

What happens on the first visit?

Diagnosis first: we confirm the fault, tell you what caused it, and quote the fix before touching a wrench. Most repairs finish in that same visit because the common wear parts ride on the truck.

Do you carry parts or order them in?

High-wear parts for the platforms we service constantly ride on the truck. Anything else we order, usually next-day where suppliers allow, and we tell you the lead time before committing you to anything.

My machine is older or out of production. Will you still look at it?

Usually, yes. We service legacy machines for as long as parts can be sourced, and we're honest when a repair stops making financial sense against a replacement. You get the math, you make the call.

Are you cheaper than the manufacturer's service network?

Often, but that's not the pitch. We quote against the actual work, not a factory pricing book, and we'll tell you when a manufacturer warranty claim is the better route. Transparency is the value; the price usually follows.

Can you train our staff so this doesn't happen again?

Yes, and we do it by default on the way out. Half of repeat faults trace back to skipped daily cleaning or wrong routine, so the technician walks your team through what actually matters before leaving.

Your Brasilia BL-500 deserves a specialist.
