When the TopBrewer tap runs dry

TopBrewer repair by people who fix them weekly. Across the GTA.

A TopBrewer that won't pour is hard to hide: the tap is the centrepiece of the whole break-out floor. We repair the full Scanomat platform, the Pro and Compact coffee systems plus the TopWater and TopJuicer taps, and the earlier generations still serving. A jammed brew unit below the counter, foam gone thin, an app that swears the machine is offline: tell us the symptom and the likely parts ride out on the first visit.

TopBrewer commercial coffee machine, repaired and serviced by Grajqevci in Toronto and the GTA.
TopBrewer commercial coffee machine logo.

Coffee from a tap, machinery out of sight.

TopBrewer hides a full bean-to-cup machine below the counter and leaves only a polished swan-neck tap in view. Drinks are ordered from a phone, recipes and fault logs live in the Scanomat cloud, and the milk sits in its own refrigerated cabinet. Premium offices and design-led hospitality spec it precisely because there's nothing to look at. Serviceability is the trade: every diagnosis starts by sliding the chassis out, and faults that look mechanical often live in the app stack.

TopBrewer faults we diagnose

Common TopBrewer issues, and how we fix them.

The TopBrewer faults below are the ones that actually generate service calls, each with its usual cause and the fix we apply at the cabinet.

Brew system & pressure 2 issues
!

Under-counter brew unit jamming or stuck mid-cycle

Grind buildup, worn seals, and tired lubricant stall a TopBrewer brew unit the same way they stall any commercial super-auto. We slide the unit out of its cabinet on the quick-disconnects, strip the brew group per Scanomat procedure, fit new seals and gaskets, grease the cam surfaces with food-safe lubricant, and confirm clean cycling before it goes back under the counter.

!

Tap dispensing wrong volume or wrong drink

Drink volume on a TopBrewer is flow timing, not luck: a solenoid leaking past or a flow sensor drifting sends it off target. We isolate which valve is misbehaving, replace the solenoid or recalibrate the sensor, and confirm the dispense matches the recipe by weight. The recipe mapping in the app gets checked while we're in there.

Water, boiler & heating 2 issues
!

Brew temperature drifting low or recovery slow between drinks

Scale on the heating element insulates it from the water it's meant to heat. We descale the boiler circuit, check element resistance and amp draw, and replace the element if the scale damage is permanent. The filter cartridge gets inspected at the same time, because an exhausted cartridge is the usual reason the scale built up at all.

!

Water filter alert won't clear after cartridge replacement

The counter doesn't reset itself after a cartridge swap; it has to be cleared through the service menu. We check the new cartridge is seated and primed, reset the counter through the Scanomat interface, and confirm the alert clears on both the machine and the app. Low-volume offices often run cartridges too long, so we set the schedule with you before leaving.

Milk & steam 2 issues
!

Milk pathway blockage, weak foam, or sour smell

Almost typically milk-protein buildup from skipped daily cleans. The self-clean cycles run from the app, but only if the cleaning chemical is topped up and the prompts aren't dismissed. We strip the milk pathway down to the tap nozzle, sanitize every line, fit fresh O-rings, and go through the daily clean protocol with your team so the fault doesn't come back.

!

Milk dispensing cold or not heating to spec

Three usual suspects: a drifting milk-temperature sensor, scale in the milk heat exchanger, or a milk pump running below spec. We test the sensor against a calibrated probe, descale the milk-side exchanger where needed, and verify pump flow. The parts ride on the truck, so most of these finish in one visit.

Electronics, grinder & other 6 issues
!

Inconsistent dose or unusual grinder noise

Burr wear is the usual cause; a stray stone in the bean hopper is the loud one. We weigh the dose across multiple shots, inspect the burrs for wear and chips, and replace them if they're below spec. Foreign objects get cleared, and we show whoever tops up the hopper how to check beans before pouring them in.

!

Tap not responding to app order or app showing machine offline

Could be the site network, an app pairing fault, or a communications fault on the under-counter controller. We verify the local connection, check the link to the Scanomat cloud, and re-pair the machine if needed. When the problem lives in the building's network, we work it through with your IT contact, firewall and DHCP issues included.

!

Tap display or status LED showing fault

The status light only says that something is wrong; the service interface says what. We connect through it, read the full fault log, and pin the fault to mechanical (brew unit, milk pump, grinder) or electronic (sensor, controller, network). Once the root cause is fixed and the log cleared, we order a test drink through your app to prove it.

!

Under-counter cabinet difficult to access or unit difficult to slide out

The machine is designed to slide out for service; the install doesn't typically cooperate. A sagged cabinet, a snagging drain line, or a too-short water feed can turn a routine visit into cabinet work. We free the path, do the repair, and quote remediation where the original fit-out cut corners, so the next visit takes minutes instead of hours.

!

TopWater tap delivering off-taste, no sparkling, or wrong temperature

TopWater combines filtration, chilling, and CO2 carbonation on sparkling-capable models, and most faults trace to the first or the last. We replace an exhausted filter cartridge, verify CO2 pressure and tank level, check the chiller's refrigeration, and descale the dispense path. Filter and CO2 are routine items; either one is a quick fix.

!

Gen 1 / Gen 2 TopBrewer or legacy Scanomat units needing discontinued parts

Older Scanomat machines stay on our books after other shops decline them. Brew-unit seals, milk-system parts, grinder burrs, and most sensors are still available through Scanomat's authorized parts channel; older Gen 1 and Gen 2 controllers come from refurbisher inventory, or we propose an upgrade to a current Scanomat module where it's practical. When a repair stops being economical, we say so.

FAQ

TopBrewer service, frequently asked.

20 answers covering service, repair, parts, installation, warranty, and edge cases.

Updated July 2026

Who repairs TopBrewer coffee machines in Toronto?

We do. Grajqevci services Scanomat's TopBrewer platform in offices, hotels, and high-end retail across the GTA, with the under-counter Pro and Compact systems making up most of those calls. The coverage list further down the page shows every zone we reach.

Are you an authorized Scanomat or TopBrewer service partner?

No, and we say that plainly. We're an independent commercial coffee equipment specialist, which means we quote against the actual work, take on out-of-warranty units, and keep older Scanomat generations running after the official channel moves on.

What actually breaks on a TopBrewer?

Milk pathway buildup and brew unit wear lead the log, the same as any bean-to-cup platform. After those come connectivity faults, where the app shows the machine offline or refuses orders, and dispense calibration drifting at the tap. Very little of it is exotic; most of it is wear, scale, or skipped cleaning.

The TopBrewer app says our machine is offline. Is that a machine problem or an IT problem?

Could be either, which is exactly why these calls frustrate people. We check the machine's network module and its Scanomat cloud registration, and if the trail leads into your building's Wi-Fi or firewall we work it through with your IT contact rather than leaving the two sides pointing at each other.

Why has the milk foam on our TopBrewer gone thin?

Milk protein builds up in the lines that run from the under-counter fridge to the tap, and the foam is the first thing it kills. The machine's self-clean cycles only help if the cleaning chemical is topped up and the prompts get run. We strip and sanitize the full pathway, fit new O-rings, and reset the routine with your team.

Can you fix the swan-neck tap itself?

Yes. Drips, weak streams, and wrong volumes at the tap usually come down to a worn nozzle seal, mineral deposit, or a solenoid leaking past downstream. All of it is serviceable without replacing the tap, which matters, because the tap is the expensive showpiece of the system.

Do you service TopWater and TopJuicer too?

Yes, both run on the same under-counter architecture and we service them alongside the coffee systems. TopWater work is mostly filter cartridges, CO2 supply, and chiller faults; TopJuicer work is dispense calibration, cleaning cycles, and the same valves and sensors as the rest of the platform.

How does the under-counter design affect repair time?

Less than you'd expect, if the original fit-out left clearance. The chassis slides out on rails with quick-disconnect water and electrical fittings, so most repairs happen right there in front of the cabinet. Where an install left the machine boxed in, we'll free it, do the work, and quote a fix so the next visit is faster.

How much does TopBrewer repair cost?

The visit and diagnosis are a flat amount you hear when you book. Parts go on top at their actual cost: an O-ring kit is small money, a milk pump or controller is not, and you'll have the full number in writing before any larger job starts. If replacement genuinely makes more sense, we'll say that instead.

How fast can you get to a dead TopBrewer?

Breakdowns called in before mid-morning usually see a technician the same day; later calls book for the next business day. Mention the fault and what the app is showing when you call, and the van leaves with the likely parts loaded.

Do you carry TopBrewer parts, or does everything come from Denmark?

The wear parts ride with us: brew unit seals and gaskets, milk-system O-rings and hoses, filter cartridges, common valves and sensors. Items we don't stock come through Scanomat's authorized parts channel, typically within a few business days, and we tell you the lead time before you commit.

Can you repair the older Gen 1 and Gen 2 TopBrewer machines?

Yes, and we're one of the few that will. Seals, milk parts, burrs, and most sensors are still obtainable; older controllers come from refurbisher inventory, or we'll propose an upgrade to a current Scanomat module where the brew hardware is sound. When a repair stops being economical, you'll hear that from us first.

Our TopBrewer is under a Scanomat agreement. Can you still help?

Carefully, yes. If a fault is covered by your agreement, we'll tell you to use it, because that fix costs you nothing. A lot of what actually goes wrong, scale, milk hygiene, worn consumables, sits outside coverage, and that's the work we handle every week.

What does it mean when the brew unit won't home?

The brew unit travels a fixed path each cycle, and the controller locks out brewing if it can't confirm the unit returned to its start position. Grind buildup, worn seals, and a drifting home microswitch are the usual culprits. One power cycle is worth trying; repeated forced restarts aren't, because they chew the drive.

Why does the water filter alert stay on after we changed the cartridge?

Because the counter doesn't reset itself; it has to be cleared through the service menu. We reset it, check the new cartridge is seated and primed, and make sure the alert clears at both the machine and the app. If it still won't hold a reset, the controller's memory retention gets tested.

Do we need a service contract for our TopBrewer?

No. We work call by call, and plenty of TopBrewer sites simply keep our number. Sites that want a scheduled rhythm for filters, milk service, and descaling can set one up after they've seen the work, but it's never a condition.

Can you look after TopBrewers across several floors or buildings?

Yes, fleet visits are routine. One booking covers every tap, one report lists what was done to each, and patterns across machines usually point at water or routine rather than the hardware. That's information a single-machine visit never surfaces.

How long should a TopBrewer last?

Eight to ten years is the realistic window, and service history decides which end you land on. Milk hygiene and water treatment are the two life-shorteners, and both are preventable. We see well-kept units past the ten-year mark still pouring daily.

Do you repair TopBrewers on-site, or take them away?

On-site, almost always. The platform is designed to be serviced where it stands, chassis out of the cabinet, panels off. The rare bench jobs, severe water damage or a controller rebuild, get flagged before anything leaves your building.

Can you come outside office hours so we don't lose coffee for the day?

Often, yes. Evening and weekend slots exist for sites where a daytime visit means a queue of disappointed people, and they're arranged case by case when you book. Tell us your hours and we'll work around them.

About TopBrewer

Reviewed July 2026

TopBrewer, in brief.

TopBrewer is a Danish under-counter coffee system built by Scanomat. The bean-to-cup machinery hides below the counter, drinks pour from a swan-neck tap, and ordering happens from a smartphone.

Danish heritage, hidden architecture

TopBrewer is manufactured by Scanomat, a Danish company founded in 1961 by Preben Vibe-Petersen and headquartered today in Kokkedal, Denmark. Scanomat built the first fully automatic cappuccino machine in 1985 and has been engineering coffee equipment for premium hospitality ever since. The TopBrewer platform arrived in 2011 with one idea: serve freshly ground bean-to-cup coffee in premium spaces without a visible machine cluttering the counter. The company is still owned and led by the Vibe-Petersen family: Kim, Sebastian, and Frederik.

TopBrewer Pro, TopBrewer Compact, TopWater, TopJuicer

TopBrewer Pro is the flagship under-counter coffee system for offices and hospitality venues: the full bean-to-cup machine sits concealed in the cabinet below, with only the swan-neck tap on show. TopBrewer Compact packages the same hidden-machine idea for tighter service areas. Both connect to the TopBrewer app for cup-on-demand ordering, fleet telemetry, and recipe management. TopWater pours filtered chilled, sparkling, and ambient water through the same tap-led design, and TopJuicer extends the platform to chilled juice programs.

Why the architecture matters for service

Hiding the machine changes the service job. Everything that matters lives below the counter, so access, plumbing, filtration, chilling, pumps, valves, and sensors are all part of the diagnosis, and so is the app and fleet connectivity that drives the ordering. A fault at the tap can start anywhere in that chain.

TopBrewer machines we service across the GTA

We cover the current platform end to end: TopBrewer Pro and TopBrewer Compact coffee systems, plus the TopWater and TopJuicer companion taps built on the same hidden-cabinet architecture. Earlier Scanomat machines, including the original TopBrewer generations, Caffino, and the legacy combo units, are still pouring in offices around the GTA and we work on them all. With routine cleaning, filtration, and milk-system service, a TopBrewer runs reliably for 8 to 10 years.

Why a specialist matters on this platform

TopBrewer diagnosis runs on two tracks: the machine and the app stack. A brew fault that looks mechanical at the tap can turn out to be a connectivity or recipe problem in the cloud, where the recipes, drink counts, and fault logs live. We work both sides, the bean-to-cup hardware (brew unit, milk system, grinder, heating circuit) and the Scanomat cloud and app interface. Generalist coffee technicians don't know the app side, and IT generalists don't know the machine side. Our trucks carry brew-unit seals, milk-system parts, grinder burrs, and the diagnostic interface that reads fault logs through the service port.
